Epic masterpiece manga Berserk has been announced as being adapted into a series of movies.
Reportedly the movie is intended as the first of a series covering “all” of the original manga.
A wide variety of doubts and concerns have already surfaced, such as whether film will be an original story, which parts of the manga it will cover if not, and whether it will be a proper movie as opposed to highlights or otherwise.
On the other hand, some are hopeful that all the carnage and sex of the original will survive the transition to a movie in a way in which they could not in a TV anime – particularly in light of the fact the manga and any anime based on it is in danger of being banned from general sale in Tokyo, although unless strictly 18+ the movie would be subject to the same restrictions.

Now we should cry or be happy ? I don't know what to do :/
The same here. How are they going to adapt Berserk into a movie?
If it's a Japanese Movie studio, they will put Japanese actors for every role, so it will be a fail!
If it's an American Movie studio, they will fail adapting, because they never respect the original work!
I just hope that the manga and the anime continue...
It's an anime movie I think. Hollywood has nothing to do with it, so there's no danger of Zac Efron appearing.
You never know. Hollywood amazes people.
I'd rather not be surprised....
Anime movie? That's awesome!!!
For a second there I thought it was a live adaptation. But if it's an anime adaptation this certainly will be awesome!!!
Feturing Justin Bieber :P
and miley cyrus with special appearance of demi lovato and zac efron the whole 9 yards!
where the hell did u guys get the idea that hollywood has any relationship whatsoever to this announcement, this was revealed in the Kadokawa Shoten's Newtype magazine and all it said was "Berserk project will begin with a theatrical film that will open in 2011"
i want you to think of berserk in its most basic form, its a story of a guy with a big sword killing demons and wanting revenge.
it would take a complete retard to fuck that up in america. its not like dragon ball where it had a mix of fantasy and reality, and in all honesty outside of an animation would have been borderline impossible to re create. and if you dont get someone like michal bay, it could be good.
personally japan or america, a movie will fail. because on one hand you have so much shit to animate that it would take a good 30 some (2 1/2 chapters = 1/2 hour, movie = 1 1/2 hour) movies to do it justice, but even than, look at things like the golden days arc. that took 12 hours to animate the first time around and i thought it still needed to be longer, how the fuck do you split that? or lets go the tower part with caska and the whores.
personally i think and oav, a long running oav, that came out once a month with 1 1/2 hours of video (4 episodes - no commercials and breaks) would be perfect, breserk has been around for what, 20+ years, and its popularity still hasn't gone away, they could wait for it all to be animated. and simoutaniously launch in japan and north america, as this is a unerversal anime, and actually market this bitch, not that add on a site where everyone knows its coming out and where to get it or pirate it, but on spike, adult swim, and other networks, where they have an audience just waiting to get into it.
That's the problem these days, people don't read like to read thoroughly...
Awesome about Berserk Anime Movie.
As long as it isn't an American movie, they can't give the role of Guts to that Shiya Lebuff idiot.
ollie
08:34
if it was made in america, and live action, id have to say they would get a professorial wrestler to be guts. think of it, he doest talk all to much, allot of it you can see him saying monotone, with internal monolauge, and for the rest its all have big mussels, scream loud, and yell shit, basically what wrestlers are payed for now.

now, i just thought that, what if berserk compressed the first 3 volumes in to a movie, something easily doable if the movie is 2-3 hours long, because there was alot of fluff that could be done away with, and than had that movie lead into an anime, i think it could work fairly well.
As long as it doesn't end up being a live action situation then all is good, the US isn't the only people who rape things by making movies of them, surprisingly...
america just has the money to do it more often than others.
Batista (WWE)
this brings me to a very pressing question to which i dont see a clear answer in the article:
animated or live action?
God I hope it isn't live-action.
I haven't seen the manga but the anime had a setting more akin to medieval Europe then feudal Japan. Would be jfine as a live action film, it is not like Mugen is sporting Goku hair styled hair.
Hollywood+Anime=Vomit All Over
Anime+Japanese Studio=Like
This is probably the same thing as the animated project announced before, people are just being silly right now, assuming it's a live action movie.
Likely, it's going to be something similar to the EVA Rebuild, or the Hellsing Ultimate OVAs.
Easy. All of the Golden Age ark, without cuts, combined with 18+ rating = epic win.
We need Bollywood
Oh great. Now I imagined Guts in Berserker armor doing the Bollywood dance and singing the Hindi song while slicing Apostles.
@Bigall wtf r u talkin about? obviously there's NO fail to put Japanese actors for every role. and they are really pro at it than American do.
Japanese actors are pretty terrible man, watch any live action japanese movie or TV show? Corny and shitty as hell. Low production values too, and characters that don't represent the European setting or cast.
If a proper western studio got it's hands on this, Berserk would easily be adapted. A high budget, plus a diverse cast of actors would make it an easy adaptation.
an real life adaption of an anime to a movie sucks no matter who does it anime should always stay an anime
Nodame Cantabile proves you wrong, dumbass. The live action is BETTER than the anime. As for live action adaptations......Holyland, Godhand Teru, Rookies were all EXCELLENT.
Eh, that being 'better' is purely subjective. People will prefer the live action, others won't.
But as 05:40 did, dissing every live action without, I believe, trying all of them is just his belief: "if I've seen one/enough, then the rest must also suck." No point in arguing with this sort of people if they can't accept others' opinion.
I've only read the manga of NC, and was planning on watching the anime adaptation in some months. Will also give the live action a try then, wasn't aware that one existed, so thanks for bringing it up. Seems like the live actor for Nodame has some fucking insane playing style on the piano, which is already a good thing, keke.
For Berserk, ehhh I still haven't started it because I'm still hesitating whether I wait 20 more years and read it when it's done, or if I catch up and wait as it takes a long time for new chaps to be released it seems.
To all the people here talking about live action.
IT'S FREAKING ANIME ADAPTATION YOU MORONS!!!!!!!
IS THAT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND??!!!!!!!!!
And we wonder why the world is so full of shit. Obviously because more than half the population are first class idiots.
@Lyn Master I'm not saying that Japanese actors or producers are bad. I'm saying that if it's a Japanese studio that produces the movie they will use a Japanese actor. And to say the true an actor with asian traits doesn't resembles physically to guts. It would be like Genshi Kan been represented by the Duke or a random american actor taking the part of a Japanese Yakusa.
Berserk is based in European middle ages folk stories, so I would assume an North-European would be physically more suited. Well this wouldn't mean anything if the guy can't act dough.
For the americain, it's worse has the producers aren't able to cast actors for the part and they tend to americanise the story which is very bad.
remember dragonball and tekken
and maybe some street fighter
hongkong movie done a pretty good job
jackie chan as ryo is quite hilarious
probably cry cause it will get banned. stupid ishihara someone assassinate that bitch
Isn't Berserk already 18+ lmao?
I'm between :3 and >_< cuz of the Tokyo BS laws
I want to be happy but a certain troll in office won't let me :(
A 99.999999998% chance they'll skip anything questionable like the Goat demon sex orgy, or the church torturing all the women with iron maidens, wooden horses, etc., etc.
Just seems like movies would have to skip so much to avoid any backlash..
How so? Berserk is considered to be adults only, for obvious reasons.
Plus, i think Miura-sensei would rape some executive asses if they censored anything.
Hell, I just want to read the manga finale before I die of old age.
cool
Fuck Yeah !
Its on eat-shit-hara !
"Movie"...............
Let's hope it doesn't suffer the same fate as Blade of the Immortal..
This had better be like the Hellsing Ultimate OVAs, covering the entire series. If not I will be very disappoint.
Get the director of the casshern movie to do it!
He's quite stylish in his work
My GOD.
God! My! Oh!!
This is an awful idea. Some things should remain in manga form, simply because it's impossible to adapt. Half the fun of manga is the fact that you can exaggerate certain things, without coming off as cheesy or stupid. There's just no way they're ever going to find an actor who can portray Guts, and it's going to look absolutely ridiculous if they show a human, no matter how large and muscular, swinging such a large sword.
It's going to be animated...
that anon sure don't understand
Nice this reminded me to catch up on berserk manga haven't followed for like a year, hopefully there will be some new content for me to read :D
great i was wandering when would Berserker get his return. and in no better moment. hope such a powerful title brings back some of interest in manga/anime that got lost during the moe bubble.
