Top premium anime TV channel AT-X provides its ranking of the most popular anime of 2010, containing a few predictable inclusions and several surprising by both their presence and absence.
The ranking:
1. To Aru Kagaku no Railgun
2. Working!!
3. Ore no Imouto
4. Yosuga no Sora
5. Hakuouki
6. To Aru Majutsu no Index II
7. Seitokai Yakuindomo
8. Highschool of The Dead
9. Tamayura
10. Shinryaku! Ika Musume
Not quite the invasion which might have been hoped for…

Sexuga no Sora is only 4th!?
and I laughed at HOTD got 8th,,,that crap just overrated...
Actually, HOTD looks to be right about where it belongs there. Below the big name series and the series running only on fanservice, but above the moe randomness, sitting in the spot where a fairly okay story mixed with fanservice can sit.
More like it was complete shit that was unwatchable on other stations due to censorship.
I can just imagine this guy sitting there watching the first ep of HotD, cringing and trying to avert his eyes, almost puking before eventually shutting it off and declaring it "complete unwatchable shit".
Jesus fucking christ, it must suck to be you.
Drivel to the HOTD conspiracy theory! I was able to obtain the correct list of top AT-X anime gesu:
1) Ika Musume
2) Ika Musume
3) Ika Musume
4) Ika Musume
5) Ika Musume
6) Ika Musume
7) Ika Musume
8) Ika Musume
9) Ika Musume
10) Ika Musume
Variety desu nee
uhooooh Misaka and Kuroko's cuteness suddenly went up another 5000 points.
They'ed easily pass for adorable traps.
^_^
Hakuouki was pretty good for a shoujo show I must admit.
So glad that Railgun, Index, HOTD and Yosuga no Sora are on the list. Very happy that Railgun is on the top but Yosuga no Sora deserves to have a higher ranking.
I don't know about you, but when watching HOTD. I dint really get turned on by whiny teenagers.
Oh god the episode where Takagi gets home and starts whining about her parents..
Ika Musume made the top-10 without showing ass and tits.
Imagine how high it might have made if it did.
!?What?! - there was plenty of TA in Ika Musume...that's Tentacle Action! Totally hot..
I'm glad S!IM doesn't have fanservice, but it's still a fairly mediocre show. I'm kinda surprised it even ranked.
I wonder how WORKING!! managed to get 2nd? HOTD deserves to be 1st/2nd! I like some of the shows on the list anyway and Railgun deserves to get 1st.
And oh, I like Mikoto and Kuroko in their bunny costumes and Mikoto has a hot ass!
the zombies will eat you...
You're crap, moetard. I'd much rather watch something with actual action than some moeshit pointlessness only basement dwellers like you watch.
>HOTD
>Action
When did that happen? All I saw was dumb wank material.
U have to give it a little more consideration it was (to my knowledge) the first anime like that so yeah it wont be too good but it did show potential
bullshit the top five should have been last, shitty predictable story lines masked with fan service to keep all u kiddie lovers interested, at least HOTD was loud and proud of what it was
I might have understood why HOTD is only 8th - only if Working wasn't 2nd. Show was at best mediocre. And if Railgun is the best of 2010 ... I could just as well stop watching animu altogether.
HOTD (UNCEN) is definitely in the top 5 shows of the past year. Compared to the rest of the list, HOTD was as original as it gets. And it even had some story.
More important than that is: Why the hell is there no PSG nor Milky Holmes?
>Top 10 *AT-X* Anime of 2010.
Neither PSG or Milky Holmes were aired on AT-X
This a very MOE list...
I'm surprised. I kind of expected YnS to be first..with HSotD closely trailing. But as usual...moe continues to lead the way.
Why would that shitty anime be first? It was so boring that not even tits and sex could save it.
People who say it deserves more than #4 on the list should go and watch it instead of only looking at screenshots, I say.
hay bitches dont you dare talk bad about to aru majutsu no index or to aru kegaru no railgun. you bitches need to fucking actually watch it. you are probably fags that only think about k-on. which sucks.
What did you expect? The sex scenes were nothing but a still image or like 5 frames looped with either no voiceover or a bad one.
It's hilarious how people call HOTD overrated, yet somehow seem to forget how subpar YnS's main selling point was and demand it to be higher on the list.
Bullshit when any list includes Working into any kind of "top list".
Didn't take long to discredit the list..
Ika Musume not making it to number one is just... sad.
H.O.T.D. is on a top ten list? O.o?
well look at that....
Top 10 Anime featuring Highschools and Zombies of 2010
1. Highschool of the Dead
2-10 ???
I guess the combination of girls + tentacles aren't enough these days. :\
They were angry at getting blue-balled!
A reason of that could be that many people watch ATX to see uncensored versions of echii anime and because Ika-chan didn't have anything to be uncensored from the original version, ATX viewers weren't interest in watching Ika Musume threw ATX and watched her threw other channels first.
Poor Index gets beaten by her own spin-off...
the level of irony cannot be exaggerated enough!
That was the biggest surprise this list brought me...
Though I don't actually pay these lists too much attention anyhow...
I like that the spin-off made it to the top since it was actually better.
Can't decide if "Index" or "Railgun" is first but the "To Aru" series will always be No.1 to me...
The real question here is, why did the original author start with "very annoying boy + a girl" rather than "moe girl + zealous female lover".
I think you're mistaking Toma for a regular guy there o.0
Type A vs type B, serious author is very likely to choose type A, which is why he start of with touma. The light novel for index are far more superior than railgun, which is probably why the author prefer index which since the judgement will focusing on the story instead of the moe, yuri.
I just hope that the author will not be pressure by the fans from the anime counterpart. I hope author create this story because he want to not because the fan want to and still manage to win the heart of the fan.
Touma wasn't bad early on in season one, kind of a normal guy with a wierd power.. but now hes all gungho about everything now turned totally into a ichigo from bleach -_-
Railgun > Index.
Loli > Tsundere
In my opinion at least.
Tsundere Lolis > all
Flat-Chested Tsundere Lolis > Everything else in the universe put together
(Except bacon. Bacon is equal to Flat-Chested Tsundere Lolis in terms of Win.)
Considering how uninteresting Railgun was compared to the original.
I thought Railgun had some very boring moments. Those little "chats" they had the cafe would put me to sleep sometimes. But it was an otherwise good show.
The cafe scenes were far less boring than Stiyl droning on for 15 minutes about backstory crap that never becomes important because it always gets solved by the Imagine Breaker Fist of Justice anyway.
That's the real failure of Index. It has tons of background and exposition but the main character makes it all irrelevant.
I dont think thats the real failure of index and, which backstory become irrelevant due Imagine Breaker?
Index has been a bit of a disappointment for me.
From the 1st OP and ED of the 1st season, I was promised drama and action.
The drama part has been sub-standard, after the 1st arc Touma's and Index's character development effectively creased.
While Accelerator picked up the next arc, he disappeared after that. Leaving us with "monster of the week" fillers with little to no character development at all.
And frankly, Touma is quite boring... I don't feel interested in finding out what will happen to him next.
His archetype is over-used, and his fight scenes consist of 2 moves (IB + 1 punch KO).
@21:52
It trivializes things.
Stiyl can explain about how insane powerful something is.
In the end it doesn't matter because Imagine Breaker, which is all powerful against any form of magic or esper abilities, will render it useless.
Index has been a bit of a disappointment for me.
From the 1st seasons 1st OP and ED, I was promised drama and action.
The drama has so far been subpar. Touma's and Index's (our leads) character development effectively ceased after the 1st arc.
While Accelerator did pick up the slack, he disappeared after that. Leaving us with "monster of the week" episodes with little to no character development.
At least in Railgun we had some drama with regards to Saten and Dr. Stripper - not that it mattered as much, since the show was basically sold as slice-of-life with action sequences.
That and I finding Touma fairly boring ... I find myself uninterested in what will happen to him next.
His archetype is over used, and in his fight scenes he basically has 2 moves (IB + 1 punch KO).
@21:52
It trivalizes things.
Styl will go on about how powerful something is, but in the end it doesn't matter when IB gets involved and renders it completely useless.
Well, Railgun did have more interesting characters IMO...
Touma is about as boring as you can get. (Do we seriously need more "I can save everyone" heroes in shounen anime?)
Index just got annoying after a while.
I dont think Touma is a generic heroes in shounen anime. To me this guy is like solid snake or kurono from gantz. Always overpowered by the enemy but still manage to win by using their wits. I know he got IM as a trump card, but I still think the enemy have better advantages.
Most shounen heroes i've seen, is like whenever they meet stronger enemy, they suddenly become stonger.
I'm not realy sure in what way that character from Railgun are more interesting. I like misaka, but i dislike the rest of the cast. For index series, i only dislike index char eventhough she is the main heroine.
@21:41
Attitude-wise he is basically is the generic shounen hero - idealistic and optimistic.
The typical shounen hero believes one can win via the power of stubborness, and suicidally jumps into action when the odds are ridiculously tipped against him - normally winning by some miracle of plot armour.
This archetype has been brutally deconstructed in Code Geass and Fate/stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works in the form of Suzaku and Shiro.
And I wouldn't compare him to Snake.
Solid Snake is a cynical battle worn guy, who has seen the worse the world has to offer.
Dude, Shiro was a total jerk and boring "hero", I find Touma more interesting because he really is aware that people will be hurt so he jumps to be the only one to be hurt and thinks first before running into the enemy.
-Shiage Hamazura(3rd male lead of the series) is mor like Solid Snake, not Touma.
@03:35
Wow, don't know which Shiro you are talking about, but Shiro (Unlimited Blade Works movie) has more depth than Touma from my perspective.
We actually know why he does what he does. A flaw character no doubt, but that makes him interesting.
The problem with Touma and other shounen heros that follow the archetype is that we are just told that they are "just like that".
No sane person will impulsively jump into danger just to be a sacrificial meat shield.
For Sazuku and Shiro we are shown their motives... broken people they are indeed.
Over-use of Touma's archetype also partially contributed to his boringness and I think I have lived too long and become too cynical to be able to accept the "rightous" idealistic monologues such characters tend to give. xD
PS: god I hate the comment system, lose my post more.
"Touma is about as boring as you can get."
True. Yet ironically, Touma, in the whole show (I have seen Index, Railgun and few eps of the IndexII) is the ONLY fully developed character: a character viewers know sufficient background and affections of to actually like him or not.
Rest of the cast are like lego puzzle pieces, coming in all colors and shapes, called in by writer(s) at any given moment of show to cause any desired effect. They come and go so fast, return as suddenly as they depart, one can barely follow them.
Oops, forgot the Accelerator. He's also fully developed character in the show.
@Dummy00001
To be honest, I rather Accelerator lead the show then Touma.
He seems way more interesting.
