Catherine, Atlus’s belated attempt at a Persona game with modern production values, has caused no small amount of disappointment with the revelation that it is “just a puzzle game.”

wow. so people will still criticize when game designers decide to actually implement intriguing gameplay rather than go the easy route with a rpg or Revil/silenthill copy.
The style of this game has me interested. Seems crazy as hell (talking sheep an all), but that's a good thing in this case.
I don't care what kind of game this is as long as it has a plot and at least reasonably good production values... and of course Miyuki's voice is a huge plus to this game.

To be honest your opinion is like the sheepish mass then because i was really looking forward to this game and this has completely dissapointed me, this was one of my most looked forward to games but the gameplay doesn't look remotely fun, i was expecting some sort of action/crime drama like heavy rain except much more involvement in an animated style, and to get this is dissapointing to say the least.
Then don't play it and go kill yourself.
Just because the game doesnt turn out to be what you want doesnt mean it cant turn out to be good. Since what you want might not actually be good at all...

Some people have standards and aren't glued to a game just because of animated girls. Not everyone is a virgin.

Well that's more your fault for getting your hopes up based on assumptions on a game you've seen NO gameplay of before.
That being said I think there's room for improvement especially in those animations, the jumping one in particular. It looks to be more of a game you'll play for the story.
No, Atlus encouraged this. They were deliberately ambiguous about the game, announced it was by some of the biggest names in modern RPGs, and showed a half hour of cinematics. What did they want people to think? Exactly what the parent post expected, that's what.
Will the game be good? Maybe. Atlus Japan has a spotty record on anything that's not Persona, but it could still be fun. Can it be as good as what I was expecting? No.
The game will still have a story and other gameplay elements too. The presence of puzzle segments, which don't even look that bad to me, doesn't invalidate everything else.

I agree. Even though I LOVE puzzle games, this is just not something I would expect out of Atlus. So I don't know if they'll even do it right. And yeah, I want some new details on Persona 5 after this game.

Praying... PRAYING for a Megami Tensei III, personally. Not SHIN Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, but MegaTen3. I think it would be great to finally see a real sequel to the original MegaTen Series. It seems that everyone has forgotten that there used to not be a "Shin" in every title in the series. If would be interesting to see them dig up something they've not touched in decades and continue the legacy.
im trying to be realistic here, there is a damn good chance that atlus gets liquidated if their games don't sell well, i mean new management decided that one of the first things they wanted was a cellphone game from them right? for micro transaction, or am i thinking a different developer?
these kind of company dont want to sit on something that makes a loss for long, and with out altus getting to make their core series, the ones we all know, there is a real chance that before they get the opportunity to make that stuff they go away for good, and the game rights will probably go to someone who wants to whore it out.

Atlus isn't failing like Capcom or Keiji. Ever thought that maybe he speaks for his company only?
The only things Atlus (the real one, that is: the Japanese company) is currently publishing that are worth anything at all are portable-exclusive games.
That's already worse than Capcom's situation.

"no small amount of disappointment"? i dunno, to some maybe. while it doesn't look like what i thought it would, i think it still looks like an interesting game. and i enjoy puzzle games in general. still a buy for me.
