2010’s most popular subjects for cosplay demonstrate once again the rather pervasive fascination of Japanese with girls in school uniforms…
The ranking, compiled from top cosplay retailer Cospa’s sales figures:
1. To Aru – Tokiwadai Middle School Uniform (Mikoto & Kuroko)
2. K-ON! – Sakuragaoka High School Uniform
3. Amagami – Kibito High School Uniform
4. Mashiroiro Symphony – Yuihime Private Girls Academy Uniform
5. Nanoha – Seishou Elementary School Uniform
6. Haruhi – Kita Prefectural High School Uniform
7. Tokimeki Memorial – Kirameki High School
8. Evangelion – Tokyo 3 Middle School 1 Uniform
This list obviously fails to include wholly home-made costumes, but as apparently a significant proportion of Japanese cosplayers use store-bought costumes this is perhaps not a huge issue.

There all school uniforms! I'm starting to see a very bad pattern for the current state of cosplaying now.
Less of a cosplay popularity ranking and more of a "what otaku are wanking off into" ranking.
Afterall, cosplayers aren't the only ones who buy from cospa....
I'd say that most of these are definitely used for cosplay sex, but that would be assuming the otaku had a girlfriend to have sex with.
Maybe this means there's enough otaku with either otaku or easy-going girlfriends? That's pretty hopeful.
The alternative is too sad/gross to imagine.
considering the amount of female otakus (at least herein germany are more female than male otakus) otaku girlfriends 8and not so bad lookign ones too) arent really unlikely... ichithara jus fails to realize that and goes with the common fat backpack guy stereotypes..
Hm... If such cosplay outfits weren't so expensive, the creepy Otaku in me would probably have bought a couple for display purposes...

Cosplay Fetish Academy can't be done. It would mean indecent exposure. I mean the only thing that people wear in cosplay fetish academy are nipple presses and maibari (those crotch coverup things). You can't go parading around in those.

I really like the K-ON uniform.
It looks smart and modern.
It's also realistic as most schools round my neck of the woods have plain and simple blazer and skirt/trouser combos like that just in different colours.

a great amount of the female german cosplayers just bandage their breasts and cosplay male characters that are very androgynous... of course there are enough girls that cospaly girls too

I think I've done a school uniform costume... twice and even then it was for a very specific photoshoot and then pretty much never worn again.
I find school uniforms unimaginative overall, they're so boring compared to the other character designs and outfits out there.
That and it's not hard to make a school uniform, dammit.
Why has no one considered the possibility that girls who cosplay might be shy? If I were to guess, people who buy pre-made costumes are more casual cosplayers and likely less daring.
A school uniform cosplay means a first-timer can cosplay without being recognized by people who don't watch anime; it also means avoiding many of the more risque outfits, since they ARE supposed to be suitable for school use.
And hey, if it's a trap, most school uniforms tend to be quite good at hiding your figure.
