Chinese pet shops are apparently injecting sick animals with drugs such as heroin in order to conceal their illnesses and make them look more lively to potential buyers, with the result that many of the animals drop dead shortly after purchase.
Pet shops in the city of Chongqing are reportedly injecting sick dogs with drugs such as heroin and morphine in order to make them seem more lively, as it is cheaper than treating them.
One customer complains that “the dog was supposed to be healthy, but it died 3 days after I bought it.”
Local vets say that pets shops frequently stock sick animals, and that as treating them is difficult they receive many requests for stimulant injections to liven the animals up for sale, which they claim to usually refuse, although some vets actually admit to providing the injections.
They also report owners frequently bringing them animals which became sick shortly after purchase, and are likely to have been drugged in this manner.
As the cost of treating an animal may reach 1000 yuan ($150), an injection costing only a few yuan is clearly the superior option for a Chinese merchant unburdened by any concept of morality or concern for animal welfare.
A vet advises customers willing to patronise such an establishment that “if you compare animals from the same litter at a pet shop, if one of the animals is extremely energetic in comparison to its siblings the chances are that it has received a stimulant.”

I'm not going to say anything other than how China has issues. Though isn't this only a small group of the population? Surely there are good Chinese people out there.
Oh there are and most are. They aren't as interesting as these kinds of Chinese.
There is nothing fun about normal LOL. Its these kinds of people that make normal people scratch there heads and go "huh"?
This is true.
Also, many Chinese pet shops inject anti-growth chemicals to dogs to keep them small.
This is so wrong...
This is so chinese...
nope, a real chinese would not inject puppies with heroin, instead they will skin them, cook them, and sell/eat them, while claiming that it can cure disease etc.
Now we can add another form of torture to that existing list.
Is it just me who either thinks or says something like "Oh Christ China.. only you would do that" whenever one of these articles appears.
The people need shooting tbh. We should send all those crazy vet program people over, we have them in the UK, I am sure the US has them as well. Give them shotguns and send em to China. No Mercy!
Chinese are not the only ones to consume dog meat, you know.
not only are they yummy, they are so good its addicting!
Eh, what big country hasn't experimented on animals with drugs?
Sure, simply for the purpose of selling them does sound quite original, but it'd be more surprising if it isn't happening/never happened in countries where animal rights 'exist'.

well lets imagine this than from an animals point of view who has no idea what the hell just happened.
its sick, it gets stoned, off an opiate no less, than wakes up either in a supposedly loving warm home, or it gets re stoned.
if that high never came, it probably would have been left outside to die away from the other ones because it has less appeal, and may depress customers.
this isn't america where there are fairly strict animal cruelty laws, this is china, this is probably the best a sick unbought dog, cat, or other similar sized animal can hope for.
@alidan I believe majority die after the high, when they're at the lowest they can be, but.. eh, those long lengths of surrealism prior to that might just be worth it indeed. The thing is, if you know you're going to die, yeah sure get your vein ready to rock, I won't give a fuck, and I'd do the same hoping no one gives a fuck. You're deciding it for yourself, basically what one can call freedom (no let's not argue on that, don't want Spinoza's name thrown at me, determinism just sounds too easy and convenient). It's not the case with the dogs, they're being imposed to take the drug, most likely not even knowing what hit them by the time they die.
Well, if they die during that first but last seemingly endless trip, then it's all the best for them, chances are they've been living a shitty life their entire life, so it might be their new found sanctuary before whatever follows life. But we can't even understand ourselves as humans, let's not even think of trying to impose our reasoning/logic on other animals, just to 'understand' them.
Oh, wasn't imposing my pov on you btw, I figured I might as well just type this up.
Anyway, this is not even as cruel a death as people may/seem to believe, it's simply deceiving the buyer. This ain't animal torture; if you want to read about that, just look up a bit on the cat-story Kogenta in 2002 amongst countless other ones. This one was just the first time I've witnessed what animal cruelty could be through actual photos, so heh everything about it left quite a mark; remember it all quite well even after 6 years.
And Poki is a god damn genius for noticing.
Ever heard of sarcasm?
Anyway, it's the action in itself that is despicable. I'd have to ask myself; where do they get the heroin?
Love these "upstanding" citizens of China. The country need a clean-up. Their percent of bullshit is pretty large comparing to civilized countries.
One customer complains that “the dog was supposed to be healthy, but it died 3 days after I bought it. At least, it was delicious”
Sure not all Chinese people are like this. But the country is well known for being money grubbers on every level (yes every level). It might not be just China doing all of this. But it is the only civilized country where this runs rampant without reprieve. It's hilarious.
ok here me out here.
the pet shops that are around me in the united states, send all there sick animals to the humanance(sp) society where they are kept for as long as they are healthy enough to make a recovery. and they beg people to save those animals, but if no one does, because they want healthy ones, they kill them.
now this may just be me, and i don't hold allot of value in life to begin with, but if i was ever deathly sick and had to pay (for me) a metric fuck ton to stay alive (anything more than 10000$ for me) id take up heroin and just ride the high till i die.
heroin is one of those drugs that works, really well, but has a negative side effect, of being highly addictive and getting you high.
all im saying is at the very least these dogs are getting high for there last moments on earth, not shoved in a metal cage, to suffer in hopes of being rescued, and than injected with poison.
^ i loled
No excuse for this but I'd hate to be a pet-shop owner - you'd start to think of all the animals as little more than inventory. And be hating on them when the inventory spoils since it just cost you money.
@ 02:53 = it is obvious that we don't think they all do such things, doesn't mean we are going to make that apparent in our comments, maybe it is you taking the wrong thing from the comments of some of these posts...
Anywho, I am glad I never intended to buy animals from pet shops to begin with, that is truly some fucked up shit, even for them...
i think what china is trying to say, is "buy heroine from us, it's cheaper than a visit to your vet!"
-thebeast
hmm, eating dog injected with heroin. Hashcake style?
Is it me or I really felt all my ancestors rolling in their grave now ;_;
I love the concept behind this. Actually I have a bussines idea in this vein. It will be called "rent a puppy". The store would sell only the cutter puppies; and once they sease to being cute, the customer can return them to the store (with an aditional fee). The store can LIE to the customer and say that they send the dogs to "dog farm" where they live plenty and happy lifes; when they are really neutralized; people hypocrital enough (like the amerifats) will beleive the lie and you can laught while walking to the bank ñ_ñ
i think people are taking the wrong thing from some of these posts. i mean not everyone over there does horrible things like steppin on animals or doping them up for sale. sure there are some fucked up things going on over there but that doesnt mean all Chinese are like that.
@anon 5:56
don't hate on me... for pointing the obvious. lol.
...you guys are truly racists.
Wow,more reasons to hate Chinese people...
They eat dogs, injecting them with heroin is like saying hello...
No, it's not just chinese, pet shops all over the world are fucked up in how they deal with animals.
you really should come to America, we have pet shops right next to Chinese restaurants that clam to have fresh meat delivered daily! it's awesome.
pretty much, ching chong cha china man!
No becouse happen this in one pet store in China means that all the country is the same...
I suspect this has nothing to do with the Chinese being evil but that too many humans are willing to throw away their humanity for the sake of putting food on the table. I know I wouldn't go so low but then again that just means in a survival of the fittest scenario I would probably die.
When will I ever hear good news from China?
If you see something good about China, then you must have navigated to a different site. SC is as biased against China as possible.
on sankaku? nvr
Absolute truth, Sankaku is full of wapanese to the highest degree!
Lucky you guys haven't read the abundant sex slavery in Australia yet !!!!!!
Bad news, since that prolly means china has plans to take over Tokyo.
what if china assassinates Ishihara?
They have no Human rights what would make you think they had animal rights
I'm getting a puppy this year
corruption in pet shops is more global that i thought
and here i thought the U.S. was bad...
damn china? O_O
seriously there must be some good news coming from there?
none you say?
what a damn shame...
sucks to be living in China as a pet i suppose...
Think of it as Euthanasia.
euthanasia should be the patient wishing to die
i have never heard of an animal wishing to die
animals do know sacrifice, but im almost 100% sure plain suicide would never cross their minds
simple animal cruelty aside
i cant believe this is happening as its blatant fraud
proving it shouldnt be difficult
so apparently there is absolutely no trace of a working judicial system...
wrong doesnt even scratch the surface
once again i say:
Evil People's Republic of Wrong
Actually judicial system haves things far important to deal with than dogs ¬_¬
hahaha, you kidder
of course
people getting screwed over by getting half-dead dogs for full price
how bout that?
the pay of drug is far more expensive than the pet itself, use your asses to think ,stupid white dogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!it is a fake news
Are they? A pet doesn't need as much as a human. More like 1/100th.
Actually Opium and Poppy's are quite abundant in the region and is fairly cheap, but yes I agree with the most likely fake news. Got to love King Troll out there.
WHERE THE FUCK IS PETA WHEN YOU ACTUALLY NEED THEM?!? >_<
Still, it's a light of hope to the ones like me who aprove animal cruelty for terapeutic or recreational use ñ_ñ
