A ranking of the best selling anime series of 2010 seems to bear out the notion that only moe and sex sells anime.
The ranking, from Rank Ohkoku:
1. K-ON!!
2. A Certain Scientific Railgun
3. Bakemonogatari
4. Working!!
5. Angel Beats!
6. Hidamari Sketch ***
7. Seikon no Qwaser
8. Shin Koihime Musou
9. Ikki Tousen Xtreme Xecutor
10. GA Art Design Class
The ranking apparently only covers DVD sales (and not Blu-ray), which became a minority during 2010, so this may skew the results somewhat.
Not being a TV anime it is not included in this list, but the disc edition of the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya is already confirmed as just under 100,000 copies, an impressive showing and probably some sort of record.
The ranking itself seems to be easily summarised – moe, slice of life and ero.

Ah screw moe-haters and Type A otakus! They should be at least happy that some of their fav anime shows are on the list (I think).
While people claim to be Type A only, research suggests that from their perfect knowledge of Yosuga no Sora, they are more likely:
TYPE A BY DAY, TYPE B BY NIGHT
It's better to be a Type AB otaku than being just a Type A or Type B otaku. Why only watch plot-driven animes or fanservice-filled ones when you can watch both?
Well I spent over 200 I don't really have to spend on series on Rightstuf for Christmas. Granted I'm supporting series that are about 5 years old because I'm playing an endless game of catch up, but still...
I think now all we need is a hentai series that is like Hidamari Sketch and they'll have created the most relaxing porn in existence. That shit'll sell for eternity for reasons nobody would understand.

Usually animes that the ''Type A'' of fans likes are not focused so much on DVD and BD sales, these usually are the source of income only for those niche marketed shows (moe and yaoi for example). Instead of that they are more focused in the mainstream, that don't buy much anime on DVD (except Ghibli and Disney movies), the mainstream prefer make their source of income in TV ratings, selling of products based on the titles (mangas or toys for example) and the selling of rights to show the anime at overseas.
Please Artefact, do some research before you post the first thing that cross your mind...
Type A abandoned anime. The industy abused the anime boom and put out a bunch of horseshit so type A are gone. It'll be years before they're won back.
But is there a type O where there is hate for neither A nor B?
I cheered when I saw GA Art Design Class in that list. Such a cute and funny comedy. I hope they make more episodes.

This is why that Tokyo law is gonna ruin the anime industry. The top selling animes won't be sold anymore, hurting the overall profit of the industry. Even if you're a "Type A" anime fan, the industry going through tough financial times isn't something you'd want.

Angel Beats! is not moe, slice of life or ero. It's action, seinen and drama.

Many shit products are painstakingly designed to appeal to the masses of losers that populate Japan. Besides moe slice of life faggotry, you need look no further than the Wii and DS, and their massive catalogs of stinking mini-games, non-games and random language, math and sudoku apps.

There are only three on that list that I know and have watched. Those would be K-On!!, A Certain Scientific Railgun, and Angel Beats. I may have watched K-On!! but I don't believe that it was the best thing that I have ever seen. I think this list full of fail.
