Macross idea of mechs is alot closer to realism. So, keep wishing. That means the best we'll get is transformable jet, and I dobt it'll be looking anything beyond huge mechanical chicken.
The biggest problem with mechs isn't their feasibility, but the fact that they have a huge profile, which just yells ‘shoot me!’ at the enemy artillery. In a mech you're a sitting duck.
Pin-Point Barrier technology anyone?
That's what all the heavy armor plating that covers the mech is for. The enemy gets demoralized hitting this big, metallic, mobile weapons platform that won't stop comming at them because their ammunition smacks up against all that plating to little or no effect.
One day.... we will all be in mecha fighting
and they will all be made of cardboard paper or maybe we will all fight in danbos
Japan will have Gundam. China will have cheap knock-offs.
America will have Metal Gear.

Keep in mind that not all mobile suits are Gundams. Unless you are special, it's likely you'd be piloting a mass production type machine. :'(

Why Pilot an 18m tall piece of scrap when you can wear a multi billion dollar armour that can let you enter the atmosphere anytime u want and land safely then kick covenant ass hell MS cant do that unless the pilot is a skinny emo who somehow joined a military forces when he is barely out of puberty.
