The latest title in the Tales series, Tales of Xillia, has been announced as being due for a 2011 release on the PS3, and Namco have even released a preview video, showing off what look to be the best graphics yet for the series.
The preview:
Graphically it would appear to be the strongest Tales game yet, being well ahead of the mediocre Tales of Vesperia and the embarrassing Tales of Graces.
Aside from the fact Namco has basically been remaking the same game for the past 15 years whilst making various slight changes to the increasingly hackneyed shonen/shoujo “overwrought teenagers save the world” plotlines and creating ever more incomprehensible combat systems, the main issue appears to be whether Namco can still produce a finished game when it wants to…
I give up on the Tales. Last one I bought was Vesperia, but I don’t think I’ll continue on now. Never going to be localized anyway.
I do take Japanese but not for games. It’d be nice if there was an official US version but it’s not going to happen. There are plenty of other good games out there. 🙂
Character models don’t look any better than Vesperia‘s.
I saw BEAST 😀 just like legendia in 3d eh? not that i’m complaining.. CHLOE~~~ 😀
hope this game come to usa… been a long while since any good game in ps3..
*grumble* Every time I see a Tales game, I’m reminded of Veseria and the monumental dick move Namco Bandai decided it was a good idea to pull.
Does anyone even care about the Tales series anymore? Seriously, with Namco absolutely refusing to release the series outside of Japan now, I couldn’t give two shits about this series anymore. A crying shame considering it used to be one of my favorite RPG series.
A simple answer to your question: Yes.
So they refuse to bring it overseas. That doesn’t make the games bad, you know? To be more precise, the Tales games are well worth buying.
Ultimately, it’s entirely your choice to learn the language and import or to leave it be.
It is a shame that they don’t put more effort into international market relations but neither does this tell anything about the quality of the games nor does it hinder true fans to still get a hold of them.
I never once said the games were bad, so I don’t understand why you went on that bizarre tangent.
Also, it’s stupid to call people who are bilingual “the true fans”. It’s ridiculously unrealistic to expect someone to learn japanese just to play a few games. You’re talking literally years upon years of learning just to be able to play a game. And by then, the game will have been out for ages. Normal people don’t have time for that crap, and you’re an idiot for thinking they do.
I’ll answer this again.
You asked: “Does anyone even care about the Tales series anymore?”
For me, this has a negative connotation because you assume that Non-Japanese people would suddenly stop playing Tales games just because they are not released overseas. You are making it sound like they are not worth playing then.
And here’s the reason for you to think that:
” I couldn’t give two shits about this series anymore”.
Your reason for assuming such things is because you don’t care about the games because they are not translated anymore.
Now, i gave you the options you have in this case. And i said that true fans will still buy those games regardless, which is true.
Not all of them are bilingual but quite a few of them are or try to learn as much of the language as is needed.
Also you automatically assume that those fans aren’t “normal people” because they take their time to learn a different language.
That is, of course, complete bullshit.
I haven’t met a single person who learned Japanese just for the sake of playing games. Most of them do so because of job qualifications, their resume etc. But many also have lots of hobbies that coincide nicely.Anime/manga/games are great tools on your way to learn the language.
Your problem is that YOU don’t want to make an effort. That’s perfectly all right. But don’t start crying to those who do.
