Final Fantasy Dominates 2010 Game Awards

The reality is FFXIII was in fact a great creation, whether it is considered a movie or game is irrelevant. If you choose not to like it, that's another thing entirely. What consistently angers me is the mindless fools who actually have the nerve to say it 'sucks' without any consideration for where that is coming from in their 'following the flock' minds.

As said above, ALL the hate comes from the expectation, not really from much else. FFX was very very similar and is considered a favorite in Japan. It was just too much of a change for people. FFXIII is just like Spirits Within, people weren't ready for it. They tried something different, and it caught them all by surprise because they expected certain things. Spirits Within had much different issues, but was still quite good for its time.

It's blatantly obvious to anyone who knows how to think: Expectation is the true destroyer of all art.

I'll forgive people for liking FF13 for its story or characters, but anyone who likes the core gameplay has terrible taste.

No, having to press L1 a few times during boss and hunting battles does not a good combat system make. And yes, for the most part it was mashing X. People used the same argument on FF12. Yeah, those hunting missions were fun; no I still spent 90% of the game watching fights with no interaction while the game triumphantly tells me I’ve killed the same enemy 500 times.

How do they go from the Esper System and Materia System to effectively linear character progression and mashing one button? You’re not even trusted to control the entire party or look after mana between fights. Or perhaps you are the idiot it assumes you to be?

If you hadn't realized, Heavy Rain was made to be an interactive movie. Note "MOVIE". Final Fantasy XIII was supposed to be a RPG, not interactive movie. I remember the days when being an RPG meant leveling up, grinding a little, playing over and over to get better items, somewhat intelligent gameplay, and a challenging difficulty. Not go from pt. A to B in a corridor, watch movie, rinse and repeat.

WTF is up leveling your weapon only? What's up with restarting infront of the monster you lost to? There are so many gameplay flaws in FFXIII that it's remarkable it has garnered love left and right. Sure the visuals might be lovely and sound quality might be good but the core gameplay (ie. battle system, quest system, item system) is still is a turd. Very polished turd and therefore a good candidate for the golden turd.

FFX and FFXIII were both godawful, and yes, I played both.

apparently you guys never beat the game and only played the beginning of the game because it would be impossible to beat it just smashing X. Especially the bosses. If you don't switch to the right Paradigm your going to get your ass handed to you.

Agreed. Although choosing the right Paradigm wins you fights more efficiently, unfortuntaly most battles are beatable by simply mashing X as to select auto-commands.

FF13 should definitely win this award as it fits the description best- it seemed good on the surface but at its core was shit.

FF14 and Force Unleashed 2 weren't even golden turds, they were just turds.

Does "Heavy Rain" ring any bells? It WAS a movie. At least FF13 had some entertaining gameplay. And I really enjoyed all the characters (except Hope. He was annoying) and travelling around the world (after the world was actually open for you).

All in all, even if you were to call it a movie, at least it would be classified as an epic movie with brilliant graphics/soundtrack/characters/character development/storyline.

Maybe it's just me but I really enjoyed this game and I think that it really isn't getting the credit it deserves. Again, my opinion. I realize a lot of people out there will disagree and think that it was a crap game and thumbs down me for this, but I really liked it.

The issue is, it wasn't a bad game in any way. It had its issues, but there is no chance in hell an objective or reasonable person can look at that game and call it a turd. Not a chance. Only the whiny idiots who follow the rest of the sheep can say such thoughtlessness.

A polished turd is probably the most accurate description of FF13 I've heard.

The game was very good graphically, with some great designs for environments and enemies. The story was rather generic but at least it was revealed in an interesting way.

However, the fact remains that the central experience of the game was of walking down a series of tunnels, trying not to bump into monsters as the battles were so boring and repetitive.

It had all the trappings of a good game, but at its heart it was mostly boring and tedious, not enjoyable, so it failed to be a good game.
