10 publishers, including Kodansha, Shogakukan and Kadokawa, have announced they will have nothing to do with the Tokyo International Anime Fair due to the persecution the Tokyo government has been directing at them.
It now appears the event may as well be cancelled – if they are lucky Disney will show up, but not much else is left.
The publishers do not mince words:
“[Ishihara and company] have been repeatedly making dishonest statements filled with inaccuracies
The ban is completely vague and tramples underfoot the previous understandings between publishers and the Tokyo government.”
Tokyo’s governor Ishihara would probably be delighted if the entire anime industry collapsed along with their event – less filthy porn and fewer foreigners to deal with – and is not afraid to show it:
“Ah, well, they just decided to do that by themselves. Maybe it has something to do with the ban, I don’t know, they have their own interpretation of it all.
It doesn’t bother me at all! By all means, please feel free to do as you see fit!”
Meanwhile leftist Japanese media, such as Asahi, has begun desperately reporting (although they actually began claiming this as soon as the new bill was announced) that the DPJ is now “expected” to approve the revised law – although strangely their media groups are the only ones to do so and reports from Twitter claim a majority of Tokyo assemblymen still oppose the reworded ban.
The vote on the bill is due in December, and should demonstrate whether a senile old man and a tiny band of crazed moral crusaders can cripple Japan’s anime, manga and game industries over the opposition of the entire Japanese publishing industry.

Tokyo got told
he's a senile old man from the days of old he needs to step down with his grandpa mentality
Problem is, the only group of people who bothered to line up and vote are also senile like him. Younger generations just don't wanna give a fuck at all.
If the younger generations want to have any influence at all, they should bear the long queues and vote. You can dislike politics all you want, but only voting can truly make a difference.
Of course, there is also the issue of transparency in those handling the counting, but that's another story.
Eden of the East anyone? I'm sure a mass of otakus can brainstorm a solution.
@00:18
Right, very dramatic, but you should really start with a simple awareness campaign.
There's when japanese otaku gets political conciousness. ¡Viva la Revolución!
And so begins the final drama,
In the streets and in the fields.
We stand unbowed before their armour,
We defy their guns and shields!
When we fight, provoked by their aggression,
Let us be inspired by life and love (Loli and Hentai).
For though they offer us concessions,
Change will not come from above!
"but only voting can truly make a difference."
You've clearly never lived in the United Kingdom.
They need to get that old man to step down. It's bad enough that businesses will lose the revenue the TAF brings in, but he could possibly cost them more in the future with his outdated views.
There's hope: since all these fucks are old, they'll die sometime in the not-so-far future, and their oppression may raise political awareness by the young ones.

Just remember that many countries have voting as a duty and not a right and as such, they are obligated to vote from their 18's...or even earlier...
You also need to consider that this ban could lead to some of these companies folding, they had to do something and this boycott is probably the least financially devastating way of doing so.
Ishihara the troll doesn't wanna die
@07:54 anon
And one day You'll be banned from watching anime. So I would rather sacrifice my time and save some people.
in doing nothing you've wasted 0 effort
in doing something and failing, you've wasted time that could have been spent watching more anime
:/
It can make a difference. It's not guaranteed to. But it's better than doing nothing.
And Bla Bla Bla Bla Bla ...
There you have it when old people are majority, the one thing you must never do is give power to a senile old-fart, or give way to the posibility that someone like that gets elected, or re elected 3 times...
Grandpa mentality incorporates mass schoolgirl gangbangs? I don't know, that's a pretty extreme grandpa.
Ishihara just keeps trolling. After failing three damn times he keeps bringing it up, and up being a little pain in the ass.
If industries are willing to this far, then I hope they'll expand above just a drop out - A drop out of Ishihara balls on a platter.
i'd vote rozen aso
*Later, behind closed doors at UNICEF Japan HQ*
Ishihara:
All according to keikaku.
Agnes:
Indeed. Cheers, to the future of (2D) children!
Ishihara:
I'll drink to that.
Btw, would you like to see my novel works?
Translator's note: Keikaku means plan
I really hate this old Japanese generation. They oppose anything that isn't in their traditional ways of doing things. Even when I'm walking with my girlfriend I rarely get a older japanese guy walking up to us claiming that it's discusting that she is dating me. Fuck those old pieces of xenophobic fucks! Oh and leave our anime alone kthx.
Mr. Ishihara, will you please just shut the hell up, leave the anime/manga industry alone and go suck Itsuki's dick?!
Ishihara,... While he derails civilians who indulge in the Japanese Arts industry in their off time - he is also alienating the very same foreigners that buys Japan's other exports.
Especially the deviants in foreign powers, like ministers, & corporate CEO's etc.,.
Really smooth - you senile old coot!
^_^
Politicians sure are worthless jerkwards no matter where they are.
Lulz I guess somebody actually had faith in politicians and downmoded me. Hilarious!
politicians are arsehole
that's a given fact
Politicans are and always will be assholes.
It's part of the job description.
Anyone who thinks different needs to wake up...
seriously, what have politicians done up till now?
Done? What is this "done" you speak off?
Are you implying they did something beneficial for society or for their own pockets?
not true, for the most part.
i want you to think this.
if i ran for president, saying we will increase taxes cut military spending, among other things, to help pay off national debt, who in their mind would vote for that, when the opposition will take it to smear campaigns, and promise to give the working class tax breaks and fuck the rich (pro tip: increasing the tax on less than 1% of people while dropping it on 99% of the people is never going to balance out)
i mean in those terms obama is the worst offender in years of big promises, and failing to meet them, but thats largely because republicans vote against whatever bill democrats propose just because fuck them. i mean say what you want about him, but hes at least more upfront about everything than any other president in decades. and one final pro tip, he gave bail out money, but with terms to pay it back, unlike bush who just gave it out.
And what does that make the people who let them do as they please?
You reap what you sow! Someone should tied Ishihara down and force him into yuri-watching torture, afterall he can't stand mangos and lesbians.
He deserves to have a big fat leek up his ass too!
Leek up the ass is a new solution for everything. :3
"It doesn’t bother me at all! By all means, please feel free to do as you see fit!”
He says it's okay, guys.
Leeks at the ready!
No he needs a pineapple up his ass and it needs to be placed there with an air cannon.
Diakon radish would be better
Time to deliver the "21-Leek Salute"
Governor Ishihara is totally out of touch with the younger generation and arts industry. Even the main publishers in Japan realize it. We have enough of these type of control freaks in western "free" countries who want to dictate what we can draw and read with their nasty laws. Free speech means free speech, okay?
Has ishihara received death threats from extremist otakus yet?
Let's start a death-threat collection!! When we get enough signatures let's tie it to a brick and throw it through the bastard's bedroom window!!
Perhaps the publishers should consider backing Aso Taro as the next Governor of Tokyo.
Seeing that most of 2ch seems to worship Rozen Aso, that should mobilize most of these usually right-leaning 2ch denizens to come out and vote Ishihara out, who more than often actually agree with his xenophobic remarks. Though when push comes to shove, I have a feeling they'll still put anime and manga above petty jingoism.
Better an anime-loving right-wing crackpot than an anime-hating one, be they left or right-wing.
Then we'll see if Ishihara can continue to talk cock.
Rather than boycott the event, the publishing companies should organize hordes of otaku style 'tea party' demonstrations throughout Tokyo. They could offer their fans one of a kind items just for showing up and making a scene.
Sad for the people looking forward to go to the fair,
bu at least the publisher try to protect the freedom of creativity and speech.
ah.. and the golden cow they are milking.
What would the publisher do if the will loose such a big resource of income if they just can sell 1/3 - 1/2 of their products.
That Ishihara has been always making me facepalm, and this only proves that I'm not alone.
Can i join your brotherhood of facepalm at Ishihara.
Triple facepalm, here I am.
Count me in and it'll be Quinary facepalm ^^
Quadruple facepalm...
Facepalms all around.
