A ranking of what types of otaku the Japanese would most welcome as a girlfriend seems to suggest demand for female anime otaku has never been higher.
It should of course be remembered that the proper use of the term “otaku” is akin to the English “nerd” with a strong overtone of “obsessive maniac,” and no particular indication of what the subject of that obsession is – it just happens to be the case that most otaku seem to find themselves drawn into the complex of anime, manga and games, rather than the fascinating world of ham radio, for example.

There were all kinds of different looking women at our anime club, and all kinds of different looking men too. The anime convention I'm familiar with also had a diverse array of looks.
I think people may have a tendency to look at hawt geeks and see them as not being geeky, whereas odd looking and odd behaving people tend to be seen as more geeky.
Here in Italy some otaku girls are really pretty, especially in the world of cosplay and professional cartoonists.
But, as obvious, more prettines means more power, so the 90% of them act like a "I'm too cool for you all, nerd losers" whores.

If you know where to look, it's actually quite possible to find a female anime/game otaku of decent looks and a nice personality. I know a couple of girls who fall under that category (as well as myself). As far as looks go though, guess it depends what you call ugly. Like myself and the other girls I know - not models, but not fat and covered in acne either. Just an average girl.

Though ironically the only two trekkies I know IRL are pretty hot: one straight girl and one gay guy. The guy especially looked absolutely disgusted when we were looking at that documentary after the ST movie marathon, the girl just facepalmed a lot.
(I personally am more of a scifi fan, among other things, than a scifi nerd/otaku - committing to any one genre is too much of a pain in the ass to me)

I like geeky guys too... no, I think I would need a geeky anime obsessed boyfriend to satisfy me. Honestly its depressing when the guy you like just doesn't and can't understand the joys of anime manga, and video games.
The big problem is not that anime/manga/gaming nerds are rare in any particular neighborhood. Its that since what we tend to spend our time on is an indoor activity its hard for nerds of opposite genders to discover one another.
This is further compounded by the general population stigma against these hobbies which causes most to try to hide their activities when in public (except when they get to a convention). Hence, nerd boys and nerd girls don't broadcast who they are, therefore even if you bump into them on the street you wouldn't know it.
I like geeky guys also ^_^ but where I live it's hard to find someone who actually knows anything about anime >_<

There are alot of anime otakos.
In my scholl there were clasmates who where plaing cards-yogi oh or some thing like that.
Abaut 30-50% of the clas were watching anime in free time but they didn't talk abaut it becase anime=cartons=childlish in my country. And also anime cuples are not uncommon. People just need alot of free time and they will start to watch anime. (personal exsperience)

Not always so. I'm a nerd girl and I will ONLY date a guy if he is sufficiently nerdy. I have a friend who is a nerd guy who just got married to a completely non nerd girl who likes nerd guys as she puts it. He never wanted a nerd girl. You would think it would be easy for a nerd girl cuz it seems so many nerd guys want us but in reality a lot don't they want a normal girly girl.
I don't think that being a nerd does automatically mean that you're not girly. I'm interested in nerdy things but consider myself girly enough. Some girls I know are similar, however, some are really tomboys a bit.
But of course, not all people have the same tastes so I can understand that.
Nevertheless, most of people probably want to be with a person with whom they have something in common. It doesn't have to be some geeky hobby necessarily. But people here are otakus so I can understand that majority of them would like a girlfriend that would share their biggest hobbies.
As for me, I don't see a point in relationship if you don't enjoy doing at least some of things together. I wouldn't mind a non-otaku boyfriend if we had something other in common but a geeky one would be more compatible with me.

Geeky girls only don't like geeky guys is because they subject themselves into thinking "Oh! I can get with this hot guy instead because if a dork can like me, so can someone who obviously looks better than me."
However, if you have more than one valuable trait (i.e. anime + etc.), then it's not as hard to woo those types of girls.
Now the cute chicks that like anime, you need more than 10 likeable traits, and within those 2 traits MUST be appearance and wit [both educationally & socially].
Hot guys can be dorks too. It's called charm.
An easy way to learn said traits needed to woo a cute otaku is just watch Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu

Not necessarily true. A (sadly-ex-) GF of mine is a self-proclaimed "jewelry geek"; she's quite artistic and good at technical fabrication processes.
A different ex-GF of mine had a "thing" for electronics/computer geeks.

I swear I read animal otaku wife and then all the wildest and weirdest things came to mind. All sex related, of course.
Then I must have been lucky at an exibit this year at Paris. The exibit was about tradicional japanese culture, nothing to do with anime, mangas or related subjets. It was about dance, tea ceremony, bushido, food... Very pleasing indeed...
The fact is, that most of the japnese girls I met came from several japanese schools and universities, were very nice riendly cute otaku girls. And they even taught me a lot about some new anime... 90% don't really believe that. I believe more that their ashamed to be otaku in Japan. I still am in contact with them...

just because some girl watches two or three anime title doesn't mean he's an otaku. besides, because most people outside of japan who can really speak japanese are the otaku types, then yes, they naturally study a thing or two about the otaku subculture. doesn't necessarily mean they are all Kuroneko.
If you go to anime song events in japan, there are actually quite a few girls who are hot/really cute, and many who look at least average. ^^

"Cute" to me tends to detract from "sexy." A petite woman who is very short and non-muscular is "cute" - I would open a door for her and treat her like a child or a pet - but not very sexy.
In "Ore no Imouto" terms, the little goth loli would be a wonderful person to hang out with, but I want to jump the bones of the tall girl with the thick glasses and the headband.
I don't think it's that bad. I know some geeky girls - some like anime, some like manga, some like both, some like games. They're not hardcore fans but they still love their geeky interests and I have to say that none of them is ugly. The opposite. Some of them are rather cute.
I'm not counting myself, even though I have some of the hobbies listed (1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 10, a bit of 29), because I don't know if I'm good-looking. That's something I let others to judge.

I'd say a good 75% of female otaku are unattractive(aka ugly) as well. Of course, attractiveness is all in the beholders eyes. For instance, if you smoke or are overweight you are an instant 0 in my book. Smoking is just disgusting and it isn't hard to work out a bit each day.
I've found that the more unattractive they are the nicer they are. The extremely attractive ones, who know they are, are usually complete bitches (or they smoke).
What ever happened to the average nerd girl with glasses(or without) who wants a reciprocal caring relationship? They are a dying breed.

Many otaku guys have such ridiculously high standards that they call 'average' ugly,or anything that isnt 'completely smoking hot/unbelievably cute'. Average girls are everywhere, guys are just too used to the super-airbrushed idoru pictures to realize this.
I hear you on the 'attractiveness' being inversely proportional to 'niceness' though because i feel this way about guys. Most hot/handsome guys are huge jerks. However there are plenty of ugly guys and girls who are also jerks, and sometimes you even find a beautiful girl/guy with a heart to match.
But I'm not really one to judge based on appearances. Unless you make absolutely no effort to not look like Jabba the Hutt.

and actualy many girls want to wear some thing like gothic lolita, or clothing that frequently apears in manga at least once. but when cosplay into one of the character, most of them will say no. They just want to wear the clothes

- Korean boys artis otaku

To verify this simply go to a anime/manga/game con(vention). Actually *any* convention, since conventions are otaku avenues. Unless it's the kind of convention where people bring their wifes but I disgress... I've been to many conventions and seen plenty of female otaku.
None are at the level of cuteness or sexiness than any of my 2D wives but letting impossible dreams behind, I'd say only 50% of them are in the "no thanks keep, your vag00 for yourself" territory, the other 50% are fuckable, and the progression is very smooth upwards, the next 40% are 10% prettier, the next 30% are 20% prettier, its a linear scale, not some logaritmic scale where things stay on the bottom until suddenly going up.
And the female to male rate is about 3:1, which is not so bad.
The only reason I don't have a girlfriend is because I'm cheap and asocial.
