The 10th episode of Ore no Imouto lavishes attention on Kanako, the show’s dangerously appealing little mahou shoujo.
This episode focused more on supporting characters, so the alluring quasi-incest of last week’s episode is mostly MIA, but most viewers will likely regard the use of Kirino’s cute friends as the episode’s main cast to be more than satisfactory.
This image is here just to point out Ayase’s cute keitai strap, yet another of Japan’s inventions given to the world – phone straps that is, although Ayase is no doubt an excellent invention herself.
The OP this week had rather more changes to the basic OP sequence than usual:
Kirino and Ruri’s mahou shoujo-style battle was excellently animated, and matched the content of the episode too.
The closeup on Ruri’s fujoshi eye is great!
Kirino’s wet, semi-transparent shirt was a nice tease.
Girls crying is also an established form of moe.
Ayase thighs make for a good intro to the episode proper.
Ayase sadly has trouble appreciating the beauty of ota-figures, a malady afflicting most commoners…
Kirino has a cute spat of jealousy with Kyosuke over all the girls he has been meeting with behind her back here, which is especially fun since Kirino is so rarely honest about her feelings for her own brother.
Not the only beating Kyosuke takes from a little girl this episode.
Poor Kyosuke…
Saori looks as good as ever, even if the anime seems to be more reticent than the manga or novels to show her off…
Note the Tsukihime book (the blue one, ninth counting from the left)!
The ero-doujinshi look as authentic as ever too, all of them being drawn by actual doujin artists; a rather lengthy list of their names plays over the ED’s credits.
“Kono hentai!”
Kyosuke digging his grave even deeper.
“Baka! Ecchi!!”
This Meruru character name happens to be “Thanatos Eros.”
Poor Kyosuke.
At least Ayase can switch quickly back into embarrassed-mode.
Another good running gag the series keeps showing occasionally.
Salaryman Kyosuke comes off quite dapper looking.
The “UOX” building Kyosuke is standing in front of, and where much of the episode takes place, is really the Akihabara UDX in real-life Akiba, the only location in Akiba suitable for events such as mini-conventions, concerts and such.
Little of interest (to otaku) goes on there unless it happens to have an event running on any given day, but many visitors pass by it, owing to its proximity to the train station.
Lest anyone forget, Kirino’s twin-tailed loli friend Kanako Kurusu is played by 田村ゆかり / Yukari Tamura, of Nanoha Takamachi mahou shoujo fame, who also played the lead in recently aired B-Gata H-Kei.
Unfortunately (for Kyosuke), part of Kanako’s character archetype is “the disapproving friend who actually doesn’t fall for the male lead” type, so all of her cuteness is mostly just for show here.
Putting Tamura’s character into a mahou shoujo cosplay is a nice in-joke, intentional or not.
This sort of small event is a good example of what takes place at the UDX’s otaku gatherings – Tokyo, naturally, has poor access to the huge spaces convention centers require.
Kanako looking wonderful.
Kanako’s seiyuu is of course an expert at mahou shoujo, and does a great job of singing Meruru’s theme.
The audience at otaku events really does get this frantic in reality – joining the glowstick-wielding masses is quite the experience.
Poor Bridget (actually the name of the character being cosplayed, but close enough) is aghast at how un-pure the wonderful Meruru cosplayer seems.
The aftermath:
“Meruru being hauled in by the police.”
This week’s ED sequence goes back to the more simplistic style most of the past EDs have used.
The artist for this week’s beautiful ED image is another big name in anime art, none other than いとうのいぢ / Noizi Ito (personal website here), the artist behind the light novel illustrations for such famed series as Haruhi Suzumiya and Shakugan no Shana.

Woohoo! Yukari Tamura!!
But dat Ayase. Most unlikeable character in this show. And with characters like Kirino, that's saying something.
Are you sure?
Kanako seemed pretty freaking bad in all the glimpses we've seen of her.
At 19:20 during the performance, Kanakana, voiced by Yukari Tamura who is the seiyuu for Nanoha as many of you already know, says "Zenryoku Zenkai" which is one of Nanoha's most famous lines.
It can be translated as "FULL POWER!" as Nanoha says it when she's about to befriend someone with a Divine Buster or Starlight Breaker.
(by Motaku)
I think that's an understatement when you say Ayase being the only unlikeable one. Toss in Kirino and that other spoiled brat model and I will 100% agree.
Kirino can be fun sometimes but... I just feel bad for his brother receiving the abusive behavior she's been tossing out through the entire series. That's why the more it goes on the lesser I like her.
"But dat Ayase. Most unlikeable character in this show."
- how can you say that about our yandere princess
shine, SHINE HENTAI !!
Oh! Noizi Ito! No wonder the art looks heavenly.

Doesn't seem to work for me, probably cause I'm using a mac.
THE MAID FINALLY HAS A NAME!
Hah! So you weren't the only one to notice she made a reappearance?
Finaly I know who draw the Ed pic,
thank you sancom
You're welcome. ^^
This is definitely one of the few shows that actually have parents, and they're depicted quite nicely too.
Its funny, that their mom and dad remind me of Ed and Al from Full Metal, though the roles are reversed.
1. The Meruru song was freaking catchy... I can't get it out of my head... The dancing chibi characters just added to the overall awesomeness. I want that music video.
2. Bridget is also adorable. Is she voiced by an actual child?
3. I really love how Meruru is kinda a parody of Nanoha, all the way from her destructive tendentious to her voice actress. (^.^;)
Always nice to see you commenting on a post of mine Actar, do it more often!
"Bridget's" seiyuu was 久野美咲 / Misaki Kuno, who has done a few roles over the last decade, primarily as a child seiyuu in the early 2000s, but something like a late teen by now.
It's my pleasure to comment on entertaining, interesting and informative posts! (^.^)
Thanks for the info on the seiyuu. I was quite surprised at how well she was able to make Briget's (child) voice sound so realistic.
Also, I really apologize for not responding to your e-mail awhile back. Was buried in Uni work and replying to my e-mails completely slipped my mind. (^.^;)
I figured it was something like that, no worries, I'm far more guilty of disappearing for long stretches of time. ^^
I checked also - apparently 17 or 18 is the age of the seiyuu. Little Bridget was indeed fun to listen to, ah...

Great episode!
WHAT NO SAORI-chan Episode what is this i don't even...
at least we got a close up of her :3 face.
saves it in .Apng version.
um Ito Noizi didn't illustrate Zero No Tsukaima
not to mention she's more prominent in making eroge with Unisonshift than anime/light novels
Silly me, I usually think of Shakugan and Louise together in my head, because of the leads. Thanks for spotting that!
She's definitely more prolific with her eroge work than novel illustrations, but I'm pretty sure more readers would recognize her novel art over that of the games.
Nice to see them using characters from Episode 1 again.
no wonder why the ED pic looked so great, and next episode will show finally Kirino's dere side? maybe Saori will finally get off her glasses, but I have high hopes with Ruri saiying "Okaeri-nasai mase, Goshujin-sama!"
I'm not sure my Body is ready for Kuroneko in a maid outfit.

Here's your Kuroneko in Maid Outfit :D
Goddamn, even the fatty looks unbelievably cute
okay okay,
maybe I'm secretly into fatties
Good for you *thumbs up*. :)
o.O
get your eyes checked?
He's only using 1 eye, so it's half the fat seen.
So it's like beer goggles.
erm...fetish?
S'long you keep it on.
Goggles don't do much for a butterface in the morn tho.
I'm signed you up for an appointment at lenscrafters at 2 PM tomorrow afternoon. Please, feel free to skip it, but I wouldn't recommend doing so.
Itou Noizi didn't draw zero no tsukaima lol
No delicious GIFs this time? :(
I couldn't find one on 2ch in time to use. ^^;
I like the look of this anime, I may have to watch it.
I take it some of you can vouch for how good it may be?
Yes.
*Wipes drool off chin*
At last, more Ayase. I can't wait to watch this episode tomorrow.
By then she would have killed off every main =3
yea,she's pretty scary(for me only,i think)
Good thing I'm not the only one seeing how irrational Kirino's behavior towards her brother is.
It's just wrong. Whatever shit Kyousuke might have done to her before, it can't justify kicking his nuts or hardslapping him.
Well I had to watch it twice, and it was simply hillarious how they depicted the otaku in the audience during the contest.
Its a shame should Ririno ever find out the truth about her most hated brother,... Its kind of obvious if they decide to play out the plot for the final episode.
I would rather prefer to see that her mom & dad forgive Kyosuke when realizing the truth and have her grounded for at least a year (or the next season). That would be justice served.
Than to see her realize the error of her ways and turn over a new leaf.
Ah well we can only hope for the best.
^_^
If you're not sure (newbies) you gotta watch it, don't put it off - its got great laughs. Ep 1 - 10, you might regret it later.
Yes, it's awesome. This show helped me grasp the true meaning of both moe and tsundere at the end of episode 3. Enjoy! ^_^
All in all I quite enjoy how the characters play off each other...this episode itself was quite entertaining as well.
Oh look. Another annoying tsundere. Cross this one off my list. Also, fake Tsukihime manga ftw! (not the right kanji for "tsuki").
Yea. Tsundere's aren't inherently bad, but there aren't too many, to me, that don't just end up seeming like a raging bitch who needs to be slapped. Or maybe I'm just picky.
fail. it's fate stay night paraody not tsukihime =_=
There's a Fake Tsukihime book too.
