Microsoft Taiwan’s Silverlight mascot Hikaru returns to wish benighted users of Microsoft’s Flash clone a merry Christmas – complete with gorgeous wallpapers.
The lovely wallpapers (although somewhat marred by the fact Microsoft apparently thinks 1920×1080 is a common resolution for monitors):

A chibi-Hikaru desktop widget thing is also available for both Windows and Mac users.
Meanwhile, Windows 7’s official moe mascot Nanami has long since been dumped from the company’s marketing efforts like so much disposable moe trash, her usefulness at an end – expect Hikaru to meet a similar fate when the next version comes out in 2011.

1080p is a perfectly normal resolution.
Indeed, 1920*1080 is a very common resolution for anything over 19"
Besides you can always scale down without losing resolution.
Yes 1920x1080 is standard resulution, i have 23" monitor with this resulution. I want to buy new big monitor (32") with biger resulution than HD, but i just can't get it. :(
I use a 40" LCD TV as monitor, his default res is 1920x1080, btw it's called the FULLHD res, and it is a 16:9 standard.
1920x1200 isn't standard aspect ratio, and make all thinner or taller.

No it's not. That's an HDTV's standard resolution. Computers use 1920x1200 usually since they are 16:10 and not 16:9 like TVs.
No, Anon @ 15:06 06/12/2010 is more correct in saying this. Computer monitors are (or were at least) generally 16:10. This can easily be scaled from 2560x1600 to 1920x1200, to 1680x1050 to 1440x900 and also 1280x800, all of which are 16:10. Most older 24" monitors use 1920x1200 keeping to the defacto 16:10 monitor standard. Though, notice that I said 'older'. Newer generation monitors use 16:9 in line with HDTV resolutions. So you cant say that 1920x1200 isn't popular, since it depends on when the monitor was manufactured and the standard that they were using at the time. But because of HDTVs, the 1920x1080 is more used, and I do agree with you (Anon @ 18:46 06/12/2010) there.
In any case, it's easier to just crop 16:10 for 16:9 purposes. 1920x1200 gives you more than 1920x1080, so cropping is no big deal. But try to go from 1920x1080 to 1920x1200 without cropping to less than 1920, then having to upscale. It's clear that you lose quality from literally less starting data.

Silverlight really is impressive when they put the effort into it.
The Chinese olympics where even more impressive because of the insane amount of events that where streamed flawlessly through silverlight with multiple angles and "tivo like" controls.
No buffering or the like either. Few other instances where silverlight really blows away alternatives, but isn't used often for whatever reason.
