Those who think to judge the gender of a mangaka by the content or art style of a given manga may be shocked to encounter some of the surprisingly female mangaka listed below.
Note that several actually write under male names – rest assured, all are confirmed as female:
Kaworu Watashiya (Kodomo no Jikan)
Hiromu Arakawa (Full Metal Alchemist)
Jiro Suzuki (Yawaraka Sangokushi Tsukisase!! Ryofuko-chan)
Kazuya Minekura (Saiyuuki Reload)
Kei Toume (Lament of the Lamb)
Takada Chigusa (Kami to Sengoku Seitokai)
Iqura Sugimoto (Summer Wars Manga)
I went ‘oh s♥♥t really?’ when I first found out Rumiko Takahashi was a girl.
Pretty much sums up my reaction as well. And when I learnt that Yuunagi Kahoru was a girl too I was flabbergasted.
The only ones I was genuinely surprised about were Kaoru Mori and Kei Toume. The rest I knew were women or look like they were drawn by a woman. (Seriously, how could something like Saiyuki be confused for a man’s work?)
It is becoming more and moe apprent a lot of my favoite manga are female written or illistrated.
Actually this is more surprising because many of these series you won’t expect a woman to draw, tells you how many opened minded women are out there and we definitely needed to have WAY MORE!!
YAY JNJ!!!
