A major Japanese boy band has been caught copying a hit Vocaloid song, enraging Miku’s legion of defenders.
The band in question is KAT-TUN, a generic boy band from the famous “Johnny’s” stable of generic boy bands. They stand accused of copying AVTechNO!’s song “DYE,” sung by Megurine Luka and published in one of Miku’s many hit albums.
The tunes:
KAT-TUN: NEVER x OVER ~「-」 IS YOUR PART~
Player 1
Megurine Luka Original: DYE (from Hatsune Miku’s “Vocalogenesis” album, an Oricon number 1)
Player 2
In response to this brazen act of plagiarism, the emotionally frail creator of the song deleted all his works from Nico due to the “shock.” He confirms that he gave no permission for any such usage of his works.
To think only days ago a traditional musician was deriding Miku for being a mere machine…

'...boy band...'
Stopped reading there...
boy band be jealous
These heathens should be thrown in a 9 foot hole in the ground and drowned in green-colored fangirl manure with visible bits of leeks and octopus...
*shakes head*
Really, they can't come up with their own song..?
What's with these boy bands making horrible stuffs to Miku? KAT-TUN should have ripped off one of Aya Hirano's songs instead (or they can just rip off Britney Spears').
I'd say they deserve the punishment of a leek up the ass for this, but considering it's a boy band they've probably had much worse up there...
They can copy my fist in their face free of charge. *crack knuckles*
This is actually not first time this happened. Another similar thing was that one NEWS member's single(another boy band by Johnny's) and had this one song that REALLY had the same melody as the song by some famous singer in Germany(Not sure if Germany but is in some Europe Country) which then resulted in Fan wars....
Jesus Christ... I can't believe I know these stuff...
In any case, I doubt that these people compose their own music. I'm pretty sure they hire a composer to do the dirty work. But whatever....
Plagiarism is plagiarism somebody's got to take the sh*t for this.
@megidola
Well if it's a boy band they're proboly homos and would like a leek up the ass. We should just throw them into a spike pit along with the bunny sitter, Kim Jung, and bill gates.
They'd probably be a little disappointed to get a leek up the ass, they'd be hoping for something more phallic...
@AiEm
actually the news song was recorded before the german one, but that's not important. People need to understand that usually (not in this case but..) groups and singers buy songs from composers and the fact that two or more singers buy the song is not new.
AiEm
00:14
i kind of feal sorry for those people, the band that is.
imagine this, you are sitting there, only there to look pretty, than something like this hits you, and it was probably the manager who bought th e thing form a composer. thay have no fucking clue what to do
do they admit they plegerised? and face horrible possibilities (not working in music anymore)
to they admit they dont write their songs, and face the possibility that any fan they had will leave them?
this is the definition of rock and hard place.
@AiEM Regarding the NEWS thing, that's actually not true. Japanese artists often buy songs from European songwriters who sell the same songs to European artists because they figure there will be no overlap. It happens ALL the time and is not plagiarism because they have the creator's express permission to use the song because... they bought it. lol
If they can't face the plausible up-coming consequences, then they shouldn't cry if shit hits their face.
@alidan
then perhaps they should write the songs and not the manager?
i thought that kinda came with being a 'band'
its called a remix
After taking in their looks, name, and music, the word "Generic" comes to mind.
I think Boy-Bands are just below Bieber on the totem pole.
Guess I'm not hip or something... honestly the vocaloid version kind of harmed my ears in places. I couldn't understand what was being said if anything. I honestly found the boy band to be more melodic and have better instrumentation, so honestly I must give them some credit for making a good rendition. Not mentioning that it may have been a rendition however was their fault and it's right that they're called on it.
I came to a realization a long time ago when I actually gave N-Sync a chance and watched their live concert in the 90s I think it was. I had no real interest in them, but there's one thing I must, MUST give credit for. Those guys work their asses off. There may be 100 different boy bands churned out a month, and they may be based on looks, but they also MUST have some capabilities as musicians. That's not to say they're not covered by electronics and voice adjustment of course, but the work that goes into performances and concerts and dancing and such is truly hard work that deserves at least that much respect, regardless of musical taste.

you are kind of right, this miku one is a bit hard to understand but not entirely impossible, one thing that i think boy bands must pride themselves on is you can understand what they say at any given time.
i mean you listen yo music long enough even in your native language, there will be at least 10 songs where you need to see lyrics to actually know what they are saying, weather this is due to bad mixing, or bad vocals aside, i have never had this problem with a boy band.
now what you said about boy bands being able to move... ill give them credit for standing after being in a hour long concert. but there are 2 kinds of boy bands, the ones that sing live, and ones that dont get caught lip syncing. and even than, you have to ask what is a boy bands purpose? i say get a tween market with songs and how they look and older teen by how they look, so is lip syncing a big deal with them?
anyway, the only respect a boy band gets from me is being in shape, but than most people can get that from me.
I really hate it when things like this happen, they deserve some kind of punishment for this but to be fair, not the worse punishment in the world, still, actions should be taken against them for such a thing...
The vocals on DYE were intentionally masked.
I personally didn't like KAT-TUN's version. Just another boy band.
Lampoon
10:57
i have to agree on that too, however they sound a bit to masked, over all i hate the sound of a boy band regardless of language, so i may not be the right person to have an opinion on which is better.
Y'know, I almost spat out my drink in disgust when I read Boyband and Britney Spears in the same sent-
Well, looks like I'll have to clean that up.
This whole thing is a lot bigger than it should be. What would music be without remixing? Look at the techno genre in general, there are so many remixes of lots of songs, if everyone complained plagiarism for each song that was remixed slightly, techno wouldn't exist.
Personally, I don't like the song that much, but the parts that used the DYE background music were actually fairly well done.
just like VISUAL KEI, KAT-TUN is GARBAGE!
first emos, now we got homos holy crap are the female singing groups and miku the only ones that make sense in japan's music industry?
If you ask me, what you call 'female singing groups' are just paid karaoke-goers that add nothing to the song they sing except for their voice. Their looks serve as decoy that'll lure people to give away their greens.
Of course, it's not so bad if the original songwriter still gets his cash, but it doesn't seem this way in this case. I'll refrain from commenting further though until I verify Artefact's source.
Please DIE.
Since I can't edit at 22:30...
Yeap, it's all over the Net now. The original IP creator is 'AVtechNO!'.
His info here:

Someone at Johnny's pulled a Timbaland and sampled Luka's song without consent alright...
"KAT-TUN is garbage" I hope you die in a horrible death
KAT-TUN's pretty good.
"...are the female singing groups and miku the only ones that make sense in japan's music industry?"
Jam Project, the underrated bands like BOC, Monkey Majik, and those Evergreen singers can fill that positive list anytime.
agreed Jam project is too awesome to miss, don't forget those sentai/vintage anime singers, now those are bad ass. The guy who sang the mazinger theme in particular.
and yeah I agree Kat-tun ain't good only fan-girls would like such things. heck TM revolution and L'arc en Ciel would kick them any day of the week.
I actually love KAT-TUN. And there are plenty of talented MALE artists in Japan: MUCC, Bump of Chicken, Asian Kung-fu Generation, One OK Rock, and the list goes on... You're just biased.
Hope you forgot the indies/underground scene...
You guys seriously need to spend some time exploring Doujin music. If you think those guys are any good, you haven't seen enough music.
Heresy remove this filth. They tainted a good vocaloid song.
OFF WITH THEY HEADS!!!! PREPARE POLISH LEEK PROBES!!!!
lol no worries they'll probably be taken to a back alleyway and "disappear" lol
her conquest continues unabated
great work gentlemen.....now onto our next topic to be settled...Miku A-0965NEGI Gundam model manufacture
Their female fans would probably swear up and down the lyrics are "original"
I love KAT-TUN and even I think this is suspect.
Well as they say... Imitation is the sincerest for of flattery... Oh who am I kidding BURN'EM AT THE STAKE FOR PLAGIARIZING VOCALOID D<
@ jamesownsall
same
It's not ripping off, it's called sampling. Artists of any genre do it for a lot of their feature tracks.
And you think sampling shouldn't involve compensating the original IP creator for i? What?
Why the hell did someone pay Radiohead 1 million dollars to sample their songs? Out of sheer need to dispose excess money?
You don't take someone's work without crediting it. That's equivalent of people pirating Photoshop: what they create with it is original, but they still need to cough up cash to buy that thing in the first place.
They're killing REAL composers
Boysband again.. ( already tired of it )
I guess not only boysband
It is hard now to find truly creative and original works
Nothing is original anymore, that much is prevalent in music industry now. And that's OK, because people can still create new things by improving on what's already there.
What we have here, though, is the case of a bunch of composers hired by Japan's bigshot company, being supposed professionals that they are, ripping off a niche composer without properly compensating him or even a god-damn mention in the credits.
Composition: Hans Johnson / t-oga / NAO / ATSUSHI / Tatsuya Ueda / King of Slick / Magnus Funemyr
Arrangement: Hans Johnson
(from the credits for KAT-TUN's knock-off)
It took them SEVEN(7) composers to make this shit and yet they don't know what the fuck is wrong? They can't even change the beat a bit or switch a note or chord here and there?
For more complicated evidence(soundwaves, etc. sound engineers only need apply, lol), the following article has a bunch of Internet detectives using software to dissect the two songs.
http://community.livejournal.com/singing_robots/56133.html
Are these boy bands stupid?
Or are they just stupid?
I mean, to rip off something popular, they're bound to get found out.
They are not stupid more like retarded
Stupidity is curable.
Retardism is a whole different ball game.
Wrong.
Ignorance is curable. Stupidity AND retardism isn't.
KAT-TUN themselves might belong more in the 'ignorance' camp more than everything else, but they wouldn't be in this shit in the first place if they just make their own music.
Hell, anyone can just pick a guitar(and learn some basic chords), find a drummer and make a band these days. Look at Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance... Even the great Kurt Cobain learnt bit-by-bit during his teenage days of living under the bridge and squatting in abandoned buildings.
But bah... dem Asians prefer seeing faggots prancing around the stage doing karaokes than giving attention to those who atleast put some effort into becoming a musician.
*becomes more depressed when he realizes he's Asian himself...*
Ignorance aside, stupidity is much more curable than mental retardism. It's just a matter of effort to be learned and move away from "stupidity"
THE WORD IS RETARDATION.
...christ.
DICKtionary loves correcting people eh?
i think the agence behide them is the worng do´ers her, because i know that those 5 guys did not make they own choice to be in kat-tun they did get thougen in to the band of je, so i do not think that kame, koki, ueda, maru and junsouke have that freedom to say no
I wouldn't be surprised if 1 of them 'came up' with the song, and the 4 others didn't even know about the Miku song.
Or, their producer thought about ripping off this Miku song and none of the members themselves knew the original Luka one.
Anything's possible, but damn their version sucks ass.
Yep...
It sucks like a Hollywood movie adaptation of a videogame/anime...
The KAT-TUN song feels... like a montage, somehow. Like they slapped it together from a few sources. We'll see if this is the case.
Dumbest fools ripping off Miku.
They should have sang Justin Bieber songs.
As much as I dislike Justin Bieber(for the same reasons why I hate Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, etc; they JUST irritate me, it's weird), seeing his name mentioned in every corner of Youtube's music videos and pretty much everywhere else makes me wanna puke.
People should just do themselves a favor and stop bringing up Bieber. Bad publicity is still publicity, and they say "There is no such thing as bad publicity".
You wanna see him fail? JUST PRETEND 'JUSTIN BIEBER' DOESN'T EXIST!!
His/her publicists won't let you.
OK, from now on, nobody says Justin Bieber. Oh crap, I just said Justin Bieber. Oh crap, I said it again...
@Arya
So you're telling me that 80% of all those "This(video/music displayed) is better than that Bieber shit" and "Those who don't like this likes Bieber" comments I'm seeing on Youtube is his publicist's doing?
CONSPIRACY!
Since I can't edit:
I meant 'Luka song', not Miku song. I didn't pay attention to what I was typing. Too bad.
I think it is more likely that the guys in the band had no idea and they were just doing as they were told. I mean do you think they normally write their songs? I bet it was some higher up.
sometimes they are responsible for their lyrics, but are rarely the ones to compose songs
