FF14: Attack of the Clones

What is left of the Final Fantasy XIV player-base is expressing alarm at the number of gold-farmers now swarming the servers, already depopulated enough as it is.

Players can’t help but notice that a lot of the “players” seen around actually appear to be mass-generated alts or bots, likely for the purpose of generated in-game currency and items which can then be sold at a substantial profit offline:

Names appear to range from lazy keyboard bashing to nonsense, and of course some distinctly Chinese sounding names are present.

Either Square Enix is not keen on the idea of wiping out hundreds or thousands of farmers due to the game’s already tiny population, or it simply could not care less about players facing the prospect of having all their kills stolen by Fgjj Fjff and company.

The game’s decline in player numbers appears to have stabilised at around 24,000 players for now:

All this raises the question of just who will be left to buy all this farmed gold…

Considering they got flack for the people they did kick for using one of the exploits it would not surprise me if it took a while for SE to do anything about this.

Next, we might have "Lolicon Enix" release a statement about how Lalafells are too cute to ban in order to delay their actions and earn more money.

These Chinese farmers can be compared to investors buying toxic assets during a crisis - their investments being their miserable time of life.

Here's an simplified, yet accurate concept of online trade:

I take the list of paper and write "100 bucks" on it. Then you buy it off me for $1. Profit.

The same with online currency, you pay for idea. How pathetic.

At times like this, I'd rather advocate for MMORPGs where you don't get drops you can sell or even have a currency.

I'm sure currency and economy are vital and even fun aspects of MMORPGS for many, but I respect MMOs that concentrates on the gameplay.

Or good GMs that account and IP ban. Wont stop gold farmers and sellers but it will greatly reduce them.

    Comment by Anonymous

And no one would buy them either as it is because this game sucks, which will soon tribute to even more players dropping this game if SE don't do anything about any of THESE problems this game have.

    ..December's coming.

    Dam that Fgjj and Fjff.
    They ruin game economies!...

Although come to think of it, this game is so crap it probably doesnt have any kind of decent economy and if it does ruining it will be overshadowed by all its other faults anyway :P

If I owned an MMO I'd just go out as an invisible gamemaster with a ban hammer and just slap bans all over em. Then hire lackies to deal with the inevitable wave of emails of genuine players I accidentally banned.

A game where you have to get all items yourself will be a dead game. Crafting in particular would be terrible.

RMT would just craft all day and sell goods instead of farmable items. What's next, the disabling of trading crafting items? Then you just killed crafting. Don't underestimate how many people devote their time and energy to these professions.

Not quite sure how that work in the grand scheme of things but, a Demon's Souls MMO could be godly....

As for FFXIV...well farmers aren't anything new. Although with FFXIV's population as it is, this is a rather undesirable out turn for Square at least. Wonder how much of the population farmers make up at this current point.

It would be better for the game to just lie about it.

But this is a bad business decision on the part of the gold farmers if I ever saw one. They'll have no one to sell to and if the farming is easy, the gold will be cheaper.

Somebody tell me what happened to the produver of FF I to FFXII!?

    Comment by Anonymous

    Two things:

    1. They branched out too much and didn't keep the same quality (HOW many spinoff games did VII and X and XII have? Sure, some of them were bearable, even enjoyable, but they certainly weren't of the same quality as the originals).

    2. They got lazy and didn't want to put effort into games when they could make a quick buck off the brand name alone (remember what was said about XIII? That they didn't make towns because it would be "too hard"? The same excuse they gave for why they won't do FFVII remake - it has towns. Reeks of lazy shitness, and FFXIV is showing the extent that lazy shitness can go in spades).

Obviously (not to you) the same team is not working at a company for 20 years. People will retire, switch companies, switch teams within the company, move up the corporate ladder etc.

Secondly, what makes you think the same people working on the single player games are working on the MMO(s)?

They should have sunk their time farming WoW gold. at least they'd have a decent rate of return.

Well, it appears that since they had actually bought 14(and got ripped off while at it), they might as well farm both WoW & 14 gold at the same time.

14's farm is done to regain the cash they lost buying 14 by selling them to any 'faithful' 14 players left.

They didn't waste anything. Unlike real players they use bots and if no one buys em still from them, it's not like they lost anything either.

And so, final verdict is, they'd win if they do eventually. But they'll never lose anything.
