The refusal of an excited fujoshi audience to even acknowledge female seiyuu whilst the same crowd hysterically greets their male counterparts with an ear-splitting shriek of enthusiasm has been noted with some disapproval by fans.
The event highlighted as an example of this phenomenon is the Tales of Festival 2009, an event centred on Namco Bandai’s Tales series of RPGs, which have long proved popular with female gamers for their high levels of bishonen content.
As can be seen by comparing the audience reception of male versus female seiyuu, the fujoshi present seem less than enthused by the efforts of the female seiyuu, snubbing them completely:
One observer on 2ch summarises the difference in reaction between the sexes:
Otaku
Male seiyuu: Domo!
Ota: Wooooooooo!!!
Female seiyuu: Domo!
Ota: Woooooooooooooooooo!!!Fujoshi
Male seiyuu: Domo!
Fu: Kyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Female seiyuu: Domo!
Fu: …
Another observer puts it more succinctly: “Whichever gender they are seiyuu fans are a creepy bunch!”

LMAO,
GUYS=WOOOO
GIRLS=Nothing , I bet the crowd has more females than males
it's amazing how women get catty like that toward other, more attractive (and cute) females.
Especially when they're video game characters. That's beyond being petty, it's plain sad.
I never understood how Fujoshi could get so worked up over male seiyuu in the first place.
That was... incredibly painful to watch... like... my chest hurts at how sorry I feel for those women. You could even see it in their faces too, that brief flicker of realization and then the near shame walk up to the front...
Just... ow.
I don't know to get mad or sad...
Just feel sorry for the Female seiyuus
I would defitnitely cheer for them!
Agreed. . . their pretty too
Even worse is Tear was there for crying out loud. Tear! Fuckin' TEAR DAMMIT! It's not like she was a disempowered whiny woman or incapable of doing anything herself or anything particularly generic about a lead heroine. She was a very balanced character. It's just...
This video obviously does nothing for positive perceptions toward fujoshi, I'll just put it that way...
HouseLife, are you sure you aren't confusing fujoshis with feminists? They might both be annoying, but fujoshis don't care about any 'empowerment' shit. Give credit when it's due.
On another note, the video's down...
That it is. Probably go look around for the video if only to see this for myself...even though some of the comments here kinda tell me what I need to know. Sounds like a slap to the face in a way I suppose.
If anything, should we be blaming the male fans for not attending... or the event itself for not bringing Halko Momoi and Kugyu to attract more male attendance?
Then again, seeing Yukana and Ito getting no reaction made me shook my head :<
I always wondered how wonderful it would be to have some girl power if I was born a girl, but then again, stories like this reminds me that the BRO FIST is stronger than bitch-fests.
The woman's community hasn't existed for a hundred years... although I'm starting to have my doubts that it ever existed in the first place.
GET READY FOR BROMANCE!
KYAAAAAAAAAAAAA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Well that's just not nice.
Otakus can tend to be bros, Fujoshi are probably mostly bitches.
Kinda shows with the same gender comparison.
Fangirls scare the fucking shit out of me. Yaoi/mpreg obsessed maniacs, the lot of them. Or, at least, many of them.
You and me both, Anon.
same here..
but what they did there was heartless =(
This is why I despise them so.. They go around ranting about how male/male couples are this and that and if you don't support them, you're sexist or some shit. Yet this is how they react to girls?
What makes it worst is that female non-fujoshi otaku get that fujoshi stereotype from from everyone. :(
I am a woman and first to admit women are stupid, i like female characters better anyway, but to be that cruel.... heartless bitches the lot of them
Just one of those simple selfish attitudes that's like, "if you don't like what I like then you're stupid" kind of thing.
you know, i am all for screaming for your favorite hottie male seiyuu, but at least be polite and applaud for the women. :(

"Fangirls scare the fucking shit out of me. Yaoi/mpreg obsessed maniacs, the lot of them. Or, at least, many of them."
QFT...
Whichever gender you are, the tastes of both run rampant like the Black Plague...
I've been to both sides and have actually read some "Mpreg" fanfics from "Devil May Cry", "Castlevania", and even "Tales of Symphonia" and "Tales of the Abyss"...
The yaoi parings from the latter range from best friends to father/son incest with a side of mpreg~
The only good yaoi is with traps
What's so wrong with what I said..?
I got like a crap-ton of anime fetishes that runs on both genres and in-between that--
...
...
...
Oh...Did I just put an image of a pregnant Dante from Devil May Cry or a pregnant Luke from Tales of the Abyss in your heads..?
Sorry, I apologize...
*walks away in shame*
I highly doubt that's the worst thing any frequent visitor to this site has seen. I know I've seen worse, at least.
@Azure
Shut up shut up shut up! *shakes head uncontrollably*
GRRRGHH GET OUT OF MY HEAD! GET OUT!
More like most otaku know you need a central male voice in order to make a good anime/game.
...
Yes, that means K-on! is not a good anime.
What about azumanga daioh?
Azumanga Daioh is a brilliant example of a good gag anime and one of my most beloved anime.
@Anon06:48,that's a load of BS,K-ON!! is not a good anime,it's one heck of an awesome anime
@TehBoringOne,second that,did you rewatch it?
The fist.
Pound it!
Please, let's not be a-holes. Fujoshi can be bros (sis) too. Just like there are stupid delusional fanboys who embarrass us all there are annoying screeching fangirls.
And before everyone votes me down, I'm a fujoshi and have met tons of my female comrades. From my personal experience, they not only get excited over female seiyuu (like I did when May'n and Megu came to the US) they are awesome people.
I'm not sure how it's in Japan though.
Well at the moment we're cheifly dealing with the fujoshi of Japan. And in this case, they came across very much as a lot of catty, jealous biches. I'm honestly surprised they'd act that way (in public anyway).
I've had first-hand experience with fujoshi in Japan and I know I bunch of them, and they all loved female characters/seiyuu too. Why there's so many that don't at this event I cant say, unless this fandom is mostly bitches or something. I dont know much about Tales Of so I don't really know
Conformity perhaps? 80% of the crowd didn't show any desire to cheer, the 20% thinks they are alone and gives up as well to not stick out in a crowd?
Hey it's not nice to be bunching every fujoshi in the same bag either, though its true many of them are heartless hypocrites.
Women in general have around the same proportion of bitches as the fujoshi do, and I'm not being sexist or anything here, face the facts girls.
I'm a fujoshi and I have fujoshi bros (sisses?) in Australia, America and Japan. All of us - especially my japanese fujoshi sisses, love female characters and seiyuu just as much as we love male characters.
Hell, I'm a straight girl who'd go gay for Rie Kugimiya in a heartbeat and a have a ton of waifus.
There are tons of dumbass fujoshi, but they've got nothing on the dumbass male otaku there are that smash all their goods when a female character looks at a male character for more than a nano-second.
You go gay for Kugimiya and I for Hideyoshi, but it's my impression that fujoshi go all "KYAAAA!!" only for feminine men? Or then can I safely say that fujoshi are gay to begin with?
I wonder how many are there into Fist of the North Star male chars.
I can simpathize with you, not based on anything but opinion though. But for males there's hardly any moe guys to go gay for, so sry for that.
On a sidenote, male otaku brain have something in common with their own anuses: one-way only. But you can bet none of us here will go that far if a seiyuu we like wants to have a boyfriend. That narrowmindedness is exclusive from Japan I think.
Please take note of mi ignorance here:
Does Alto Saotome (Macross Frontier) count as a "moe guy" or whatever?
I havent really seen that much Macross but moe is often in the eye of the beholder.
I think Phoenix Wright is totally moe, for example.
Phoenix Wright/Gyakuten Saiban is Moe!
Hope more people support the game when it arrives on the 3DS
No it's not "exclusive" to Japan, check out all the actor followings going on in Hollywood and stop trying to make yourself feel better by insulting Japan.
bros before hos
Tough crowd...
Yeah only if you are female...
What about women who voice male characters?
They are rather scarce, as far as I know.
@Aneko,wondering too, maybe i should watch FMA Live?Edward and Al were voiced by females
Romi Park and Kugimie FTW!
Goku of Dragonball and Luffy of One Piece also have female seiyuu. It's not that uncommon.
for english dubs, ash's original voice actor was female too
sandwich fest
What is? It is a well established fact that positive emotions associated with anime-based media have alot to do with sexual attraction, even if we refuse to acknowledge that. Womans have the right to fap (shlick) to their favorite gay males too.
To put simply, it is big amount of sexy bitches and dudes that make anime awesome. Be it for men or women.
