The 7th episode of A Certain Magical Index II covered the battle-heavy continuation of the arc begun during the previous episode, combining a flirtatious Kuroko-as-heroine, copious amounts of service throughout, and even an Accelerator “berserk” scene to make for a surprisingly strong episode.
A not-so-brief preamble: Novel readers may not easily remember this, due to the Index light novel series’ especially episodic structure, but the events of the current story arc are from the eighth book, out of well over twenty total books.
Since a trend of the last decade or so has been to not carry on a series for more than three seasons, regardless of whether the seasons are one or two-cour in length, fans have reasonable cause to wonder what arcs this season might include.
Despite the Railgun side-story series being separate from the Index novels proper, and mostly not linking up chronologically with any of the main Index story arcs, it seems likely enough that the “To Aru…” series having three total TV seasons thus far would suggest the likelihood of further TV shows is not good…
Luckily, the number of appearances by Laura Stuart (the blond Archbishop that Stiyl frequently reports to) does at least give novel readers a pretty good inkling of which major arcs the TV series will be driving towards in the near future.
On to this week’s especially fun episode:
Awaki, the newcomer Level 4 ESPer, is all over this episode, in more ways than one.
As mentioned last week, her seiyuu, 櫻井浩美 / Harumi Sakurai, is most definitely a fairly rookie seiyuu to this sort of work (TV anime), despite her past work in visual novels and the like being substantial.
Kuroko, for most intents and purposes, this week’s main character.
As expected for such an action-heavy climax episode, the production quality is somewhat above the series’ average – shots like this one look great in broadcast resolution.
Fortunately for us viewers, Awaki will soon spend the rest of the episode wearing even less clothing.
Imouto #10032 completes her service scene from last episode:
The rest of her clothing doesn’t get as much attention, sadly:
Last Order!
Despite what the OP might suggest, Accelerator doesn’t quite belong to the same level of prominence as the series’ main trio of characters do, but it is has been a shame we’ve seen so little of him this season…
Awaki is very considerate to her viewers.
Kuroko’s animators seemingly often have trouble with her head, sometimes making it seem out of proportion to the rest of her fetching body.
Awaki service appears throughout the episode…
Index and Touma, engaged in the usual foreplay business they do when both are sitting an episode out.
Touma does learn a new trick, however:
It’s safe to say that a black aura probably isn’t the type to come from an innocent, youthful nun.
Mikoto’s scenes are brief, but this short one is a treat:
The classic and cutely awkward “knees-bent, feet pointing inwards” pose as modelled by Kuroko here makes its appearance.
Hence its innumerable number of appearances in all sorts of anime for decades – Usagi (Serena) of Sailor Moon’s pose at the end of her transformation is a venerable example of it.
As mentioned before, the production quality given this episode made many of the scenes look excellent:
Touma kindly performing his duties as the main protagonist.
Sadly, Touma’s magical harem-building powers seem to not always work:
Accelerator’s scene probably wins out as the episode’s best, however.
The character design of, and the animation for Accelerator’s face and facial expressions are so outstanding that they deserve this little montage:
“Tanima,” the word for “valley” or “cleavage” was mentioned previously during a Mikoto / Kuroko scene, but Awaki makes for a much better demonstration here!
The obligatory GIF of the episode’s standout few seconds:
Poor Awaki!
Index’s line here is especially moe-some:
“Look, look, Touma! I’ve finally mastered my juice-buying (from a vending machine) method!”
Ever-vigilant 2ch sleuths spotted something interesting: Pakuri, from the verb ぱくる / pakuru, meaning “to rip off.”
2ch speculates rather unkindly that this refers to Ikamusume being a copy of Index.
In any case, the caption reads: “They want to say ‘Ikamusume is a rip off of Index!'”
How Touma got that slap mark:
Touma was even lucky enough to sneak in on an Imouto cosplaying as a bashful Ayanami:
The presence of Imouto or Last Order provides the amusing “Misaka wa Misaka…” sentence suffixes, something sadly lost in translation.
In case once wasn’t enough, poor Awaki being Accelerated once more:

Index is getting better with every episode, seriously.
Yup. Mikoto and Kuroko are still sexy, as usual, and Last Order and Index are still cute too. Btw, poor Awaki.
Seriously, Touma should just end up with Index so that Kuroko can have her Mikoto.
better and better = less and less index
BiriBiri & Accelerator >>>>>>>> Index
they really punch the girls hard... 1st touma and now accelerator
Just another day for befriending in Touma's case.
And for Accelerator, I think he held back, he could have easily taken the girl's head off with his vector punch even at his current state.
ya....well....he still is kinda rougthless though...beat the crap off her face....i mean touma he just punch on the cheek...but accel friigin broke her nose...
Touma punched the nun twice. Accelerator went for a single.
Yipes, that punch was brutal!
Still needs more Accelerator and Biribiri.
Hell, I can make do without the super-memory nun and the preaching anti-power.
Accelerator gets even more badass in later arcs. Gives a whole new meaning to the word determinator...
Mr Kamijo and Accelerator = Women Beater
Or Typical get back in kitchen reassurance?
Accelerator is kind of like a human rollercoaster. He's gonna do all these violent, masochistic things to people and then he's gonna lose all his powers and go into a coma. Rinse, Repeat.
Gender equality. Equal rights, equal fight.
Yes. Why is it a guy hits a guy and it's OK, a girl hits a girl and it's OK, a girl hits a guy and it's OK, but the moment a guy lays hands on a girl it's YOU WOMAN-BEATING ANIMAL YOU DESERVE TO BE CASTRATED?
No,no.you forgot to add "Moe" before "girl" dear sir :3
This show is "Gender Equality: The Anime"
YES!!!
I concur. To all feminists out there, THIS is true gender equality. I'll punch you as hard as I'll punch the next guy. For a prime example of gender equality, google for "The lowest falcon punch ever".
Accelerator = Women Beater
that's why he's so fuckkingg awwwwwesome
Bitch shoulda made him a sammich...
Beating a psycho hose beast is perfectly within reason for any sound bodied individual. And the dumb bitch needs to get back in the kitchen.
Haha~
You guys do know that Accelerator isn't male, right?
or maybe just a DV
What is this?
Accelerator used FISTS?!?!?!
Feels much better to beat women with fists than mysterious powers.
And to accelerate the err.... (fill in the blank)
More importantly did you see imouto put on the shimapan *mmmmm delicious*
If only she did it slower...... pity.
Keep in mind a lot of things changed since the last time we saw him. Though he mentions his calculations are done remotely now, the series hasn't mention that its in fact the Misaka Network (10,000 sisters) doing the calculations. With that helping him use his powers, he probably found new ways of using it, including improving his fists; something he had no need in the past when he was simply #1... now he's gotta prove he still is at his weaken level (and maybe get back at Toma who punched him).
He lost about 50% of his power but still, no one can hurt him......yet
Well Toma.
But that raises a good point... he looses roughly 50%... and he is still #1 in town... it just shows how far he is from the rest of the competition (or #2).
Hope Accelerator shows up again soon.
(and maybe get back at Toma who punched him)
Sorry, nope not gonna happen this season, or the next, or the next one if we even get that far.
We already know the meaning of "main character" anon. There is no need to elaborate it for us.
Smart move.
Accelerates his punching power.
More like how fast she flew
Otherwise Awaki will be killed......
it was super effective
Like the first season and Railgun, completely worthless show.
The writing and direction are just plain bad.
BILIBILI is so CUTE! :)
I'm tempted to add a fake sub on that gif
"Make me a sandmich!" or "falcon Pawwwnch"
too lazy... at the moment :|
Get back in the kitchen works better
"battle-heavy continuation"
When you say that do you mean 50% action, and 50% boring dialogue? I don't know what the story is because I fall asleep whenever a character starts talking. They need to mix the action and dialogue better, because someone starts talking, I don't know if they are going to shut up.
The anime has already deleted a lot and I mean a LOT of the dialogues compared with the novel, I don't think they can make it any shorter......
Indeed, they cut an entire conversation with Touma and Kuroko after her rescue, which is practically important and references a character from the 1st season we probably won't see again until the 3rd season (if possible).
I'm sorry that this show is not for people with terrible attention spans such as yourself.
I called it "battle-heavy continuation" since it certainly seemed that way in comparison to most episodes of the show, doesn't it?
BEST episode so far.
Teleport fight was fucking badass
oh 2ch, pakuri is surely just the sensored version of "pocari".
sensored is surely just the "sensored" version of censored?
I should've mentioned the Pocari Sweat connection also - oops.
Of course, 2ch was most likely implying it was a double-pun, both on the drink and for the "Pakuru".
