Final Fantasy watchers have been greatly excited by Square Enix’s comparison shots (above) of its flagship title Final Fantasy XIV before and after the upcoming mega-patch, touted as being the restorer of the game’s plummeting player numbers and the company’s tarnished image.
In greater detail the differences are plain to see:
Together with this structural change, we have rethought the distribution of enemies, both old and new, while giving considerable consideration to players engaged in gathering activities or simply passing through.
If the rest of the update is this impressive, Square Enix will have nothing to worry about.

So they've added a Llama.
What a mega-patch this is.
Deviantart did it so why not 14??? 8D
It's still the same old FF14....
I think the writer of the article is either confused or is being sarcastic in an obscure way... the pictures are basically thumbnails to me even if i zoom them and there is clearly no noticeable change between them as well...
the thing that i only see in the new one is that they add bunch of animals or made it bigger. maybe they should just try adding a feature that make the graphic or the whole thing to a final fantasy 7 theme. are they trying to make it realistic to appeal westerner gamer?
By your logic, I guess FF7 was realistic, because western games tend not to be able to shut up about the damn thing.
someone should tell Square Enix that it's called trolling :)
Ummm.. so-o.. what's changed??
From how the mobs are looking at the camera in the second screenshot, I conclude that the change is that from now on, instead of roaming freely, the mobs will stop and stare at you as you move around the map.
You know, like those pictures which seem to stare at you no matter which angle you look at it from? Only that with FFXIV, the mobs really DO turn around to stare at you.
oh great.! So someone like me who has some serious paranoid issues about being stared at when I go out etc. is really going to love this game then.....!
Best book some more therapy now then..
in FFXIV quite few mobs already do that. There are monkeys that run to you as though they aggroed then just stop and stare at you and goats that just follow and rub their horns on you without attacking. You gotta be careful of AoEs though...
Yes, Don't be a mage doing Horizon Leves and be a total "noob," for the love of god. It's never good to randomly lose your mage in the middle of a fight, whether a damage dealer or a healer.
That'd be amazing...
nothing really - that's why it's just trolling
Hmm......... lemme change my eyeballs first.
Can't see any difference with so much bullshit clogging up my lens.......
What's changed is that we now have sheep and goats instead of turkeys. It's, like, an agricultural revolution.
you know... i tried to find a minuscule change to joke about, saying something like "they improved the (so-and-so)!"
.... i can't find it -_-
The thing thats changed is that my eyes are more fucked now.
The enemies now pose for the camera!
To @koollkat: Loot's of things will be changed in that update but Sankaku as always like to troll and hate this game, that's why they only seek a sensation and barley don't write anything ... There will be tons of things Added and updated in November and December as well as Early 2011 but of cores Sankaku wrote nothing of it... I'm losing trust in this site.
http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/topics/detail?id=9a18c549d68b08a4e6f2d162f5bd4263ed466626
Overall list of things that will be Included in Nov, Dec and Early 2011, but of cores not all is wrote there, some things are wrote in separate news but i you find them yourself (Note: Not on Sankaku of cores)
Anyway I'm stopping reading FFXIV related news on this site here, I don't wanna look anymore at Artefact news about this game, some people just troll for the troling sake, and some just want this game to fail now matter what people do. End!
...
Bigger animals that look straight at you, quite impressive.
This seems like a lost cause; Just give us Versus XIII already.
Hey, Setsuna Toshirou...
I read that link you posted and I don't see any addressing of the real issues of the game...
the Item search feature being the only attempt and it still doesn't fix the horribleness of the retainer system that I personally feel should be scrapped.:/
@Setsuna Toshirou
What I don't get is why they couldn't do all these updates _before!_ releasing the game. Why would you want to try and sell a product that is basically, for all intents and purposes, still unfinished? It makes no sense.
All those updates are the normal things you would already _expect_ an mmorpg to already _have_ in the game by the time it comes out. Things like improved user interfaces and quests? Most of that should've been sorted out already in beta testing.
My point is, those updates are nothing new or creative. And I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to go and pay for some unfinished game.
(I know they don't make it P2P yet, but my point remains the same. I wouldn't pay for a bunch of crap, basically.)
If you look through the list of changes, it seems like they might finally make this the game it was suppose to have been this entire time.

i just read the majority of what they are doing.
they aren't out right saying anything, they are beating around the bush saying they are retooling things, it doesn't mean that it makes it better.
lets say they need a 100% upgrade to be good, what they are promising between now any 2011 is anywhere from 1% to 50% and are promising up to 80% sometime in 2011
they aren't telling us that any portion of the game is going to be satisfactory, or that any part of whats currently broken will be fixed...
what did you expect Artefact to jizz himself over details that aren't even detailed? what they basically said is this "shits broke, we know, here is a list of what we want to fix and hopefully when it will be fixed"
Canadane

congrats, your problem with the game is known and should be fixed this year.
ok i cant see it at all in the pictures, but what it sounds like are more mobs.
i cant see this as a bad thing, but i also wish they would have shown a better image comparison.
Now we can clearly see how shitty this game is!
from the pictures i almost thought they added a playable goat race..

More enemies, that's fine...
But what about the dreadful curfew system with equal amounts of punishments..?
All I wanted was less lag with the controls.
Not too much to ask for? Passive/active mode, and menus and stuff. All have this undeniable lag on them.
It's my only complaint with the game.
The fact I've been given three free months though, is very nice.
nothing much have changed...
It's still the first step of whatever they're also planning....not that this would change my mind about this game though.
You don't play MMOs do you? The structure of the NPC enemies is EVERYTHING.
Perhaps maybe they should say... address the problems they implemented in the first place? Lovely use of new animals and giving us an extra mountain peak to see, now remove the time limit so that we can grind with a decent outcome ya morons!
part of the fun, is a hard pull, spiting off the mobs, and killing them.
Whats changed?
Everything.
STRAP ON YOUR SEATBELTS BOYS, SHIT JUST GOT REAL
Where we're going, we don't need quality to play!
Agricultural evolution was epic.
I found it!
THE ANIMALS HAVE SHADOWS NOW.
just change the "fatigue" system and we're in business ^.^ lets see where this goes >_>
square enix shouldnt get it's hopes up. a patch isn't gonna make people want to play a bad game
Indeed. There is only so much a patch can do.
If they're going so far, might as well download a whole new game.
It's like shaping shit to chocalate,it's still bad no matter how you patch it up
And yet many people(mostly S-E drones) still fail to fathom the concept behind patches.
FFXIV is coded with the server-client connection interfering in almost EVERY ACTION you take, from opening the menu to confirming to it. I don't know who's the absolute idiot who thought that asking for server permission to do ANYTHING is a great way to curb hacking/cheating and all that shit which they claim they want to kill.
Patches can take away the little rough edges or add small details to it, but it can't change the composition of the game's core. There is virtually no real way to patch away their main problems within a short time(<4~5 months), because the amount of effort needed would mean that they might as well make a new game.
Bottomline of S-E's actions post FFXIV: They're trying to sell as much playtime as they can to try to salvage whatever they can scrape off any willing customers left.
Killing the retarded retainer system and just putting in a normal Auction House like EVERY FUCKING SINGLE OTHER MMO OF ANY QUALITY HAS would be a good first step.
So uh... They made the animals face the screen when you screenshot them, is that the difference?
Is it me or are these animals staring at us with malicious intent?
No they are sad and desperate because no one comes and plays with them and kills them afterwards :(
It's coming right for us!!!
They are looking a way out.
The mobs now level off YOU.
believe it or not but there are mobs like that in FF11, lol its great fun when it manages to kill an entire 18 man alliance.
baahhh why don't you like our game
