Hatsune Miku appears to be on the verge of gaining an English version, providing her fans are dutiful enough in fulfilling her wishes.
The announcement of sorts comes by way of an address given to Vocaloid fans at a recent US convention, with Miku creators Hiroyuki Ito and Wataru Sasaki suggesting an English version will be forthcoming if Miku’s demand for 39,390 likes (the odd number is the result of Japanese wordplay: “miku” and “sankyu”) on her Facebook page is met.
As gathering likes on Facebook is akin to catching flies on flypaper, the statement can basically be taken as an announcement that there will be an English version and the decision is already something of a fait accompli; certainly making a business decision based on Facebook likes is not something which anyone would expect from the decidedly canny businessmen at Crypton.
Crypton have in fact been talking about the need for an English version since 2008, so her recent burst of publicity may well form the momentum for an imminent announcement.
Facebook users wishing to accelerate the inevitable or simply bathe in her exalted virtual light can proceed to her profile here – with over 33,000 likes already it seems it will not be long in coming.
Just whether this will be a success is another question of course – Miku’s success so far is essentially the result of an extremely strong community of (Japanese) artists and musicians, rather than any central group under the control of Crypton, Yamaha, Sega or others, so her dual nature of both being a virtual idol and a creative tool may yet complicate her establishment overseas.

The another question is... Will the English voice meet up to our expectation?
who knows at this point....
...and so General Hatsune is poised to strike the U.S. with all her might the vocaloid empire shall go down as the undisputed world power in history.....
ALL HAIL GENERAL HATSUNE MIKU!
Conquering Europe was the first step.
General Hatsune is as fearsome as Adolf Hitler she's even tone-deaf to boot. HAH.
She just better not try for Russia... we all know how well that turned out. And following this analogy, all Jews should stay the fuck away from Hatsune Miku for their own safety!
She has already conquered large portions of South America already! (Argentina & Brazil)
Invasion of the states is imminent. Resistance is futile.
General? I think not.
"Ascending Empress of the World by Divine Right" seems more appropriate.
What else can you call a being that can be everywhere at once and bring the entire civilised world together without needing to make use of force?
Miku = True "Shin-sekai no Kami"
this makes 2d superior to 3d!!
@6:43
Actually, Miku is as 3D as it gets.
ALL HAIL HYPNOTOAD, I mean ALL HAIL GENERAL HATSUNE MIKU! Damn it!
why do fuckers always wanna screw things up by making it into english....
how bout they make another vocaloid that speaks in english.
bitches and whores.
this time, WE SHALL FIGHT ON THE BEACHES
at 09:33:
they already have. several times. when used correctly prima's actually pretty fuckin' good...
Please god!
No lady gaga songs by hatsune miku
great, now hatsune miku will become mainstream shit...
why do they always do this?
*sigh* Why does nobody ever think about what 'mainstream' means anymore when they speak? Explain exactly why it's a bad thing if Hatsune Miku becomes this proverbial 'mainstream' you speak of. Really, I'm interested. And try saying out loud to yourself what it is you are typing, and perhaps you'll realize it sounds kind of silly when you hear it back at yourself.
I think he's worried about it getting the "Naruto" affect/treatment or something like that, you know like when Naruto was brought to the states.... I think...
>>I think he's worried about it getting the "Naruto" affect/treatment or something like that, you know like when Naruto was brought to the states.... I think...
kind of, there is the possibility that she will become popular in the U.S.
When she becomes too popular, she wont be something "special" anymore. It will become boring to hear her, and she will go down again. Just like it always happens... at least for me
BAAWWWW MY SECRET CLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUB
she's already mainstream, you idiot. also, becoming english won't do anything -- if it did, then all the other english vocaloids would be mainstream already.
christ, you're stupid.
Damn, that took a long time to get posted here...
VIVA LA REVOLUCION!
-north america fall sin the 1st hr- xD
Another marketing driven choice, Luka is the English singing Vocaloid, Miku sings in horrible Engrish, thats the way things are, but that's probably not how things looks to marketing.¬¬
It looks like it may actually happen at this time the page has a little over 37,500 likes.
ALL HAIL NEGI-TANNIA!!!!!!
YES!
Sent shivers down my spine... And why the heck 39990?!?!?! Mystic number or something?
Does that image represent the effect of Miku gaining an English voice?
Sorta, only hotter and more abstract.
The Ascension of Miku?
Can a goddess ascend?
Into space.
"Wait! What is this, her power level is over 9000" "9000 thats impossible"
That image is actually MIKU Append, right?
I imagine that the picture could represent the creation of the first Miku-bot...
and less pantsu
Other than she has pantsu on in the img.
No pantsu is also win. *drools*
You can see her molting out of her usual Miku to become Insane Hatsune Miku... She's soon to be Jesus. Just that she won't be able to walk on water.
I guess we will support her even if the English release sucks. What else do we have to do...
Lol, sheep.
You're a mindless drone.
and you're a mindless Anon
>>and you're a mindless Anon
And your non-anonymity still makes you a mindless drone. Sad much?
yea...I'm sad....NOT!
spread the word as her followers we should spread it and turn them into us!
ALL HAIL MIKU!!!
rock bottom expectations are not hard to meet
Miku can truly become international if this works out right. Maybe even some PSP games for the west? That'll be interesting.
Considering that plenty of English-speakers already use the Japanese version and produce songs in total Engrish, I don't think that quality will be a problem.
It's actually fairly complicated to make Miku sing in Engrish, I've not seen it done very often.
It's hard, the pronounciation is very different. German is easier, but also not done often. I found Miku singing german opera, not too bad.
I guess you meant Zauberflöte
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gr9fbQzNpqA
quite nicely done, I'd like Miku to sing more operas
It's pretty good!
Ever heard of a voice actress by the name of Christina Valenzuela? She's done english translations of anime openings, and endings, and is quite the anime fan for being a VA, as she's also going to voice Mio in K-ON!.
Short version: Get Christina Valenzuela on the job.
One word: No
Unless it's Saki Fujita, it's not going to sound like the Miku we all know and love.
Agreed. It just wouldn't be Miku without Saki providing the voice.
Last time I checked Saki isn't Utada Hikaru. I'm talking if their going for an english voice that they get someone that either is a VA that can sing (Christina), or somehow get Saki to level up from Engrish - English.
And Christina Valenzuela has sung Japanese before, you can literally look her up on youtube dumbass.
Way to completely miss my point.
Saki Fujita is the voice of Miku. They user her voice as the base to get Mikus voice, and going from another base voice will definitely make Miku sound very differently in English compared to Japanese, which is something very bad.
Also, they don't care if the voice provider can sing or not, that's why they choose Saki Fujita in the first place. The Vocaloid engine can handle the singing part.
what so if she can sing japanese that means she can sound like Miku?
Unless it's Saki, this is a dumb idea. Miku's voice is part of her character and changing that would ruin everything. Like it or not, her voice is part of what made her popular (along with her character design)
Personally I think this release is doomed to fail because the software is so expensive and I doubt enough people in the west would buy it. Out of the people who use Vocaloid already(in the west, I mean) how many do you know that have a legit copy of the program? Everyone uses the pirated 'Pocaloid' crack.
Exactly why I questioned the quality in the first place. The Miku's voice and appearance as of now is what caused everyone to be so drawn into her in the first place. (The respect should be given both to Vocaloid, Yamaha [I think it was Yamaha...] and Saki Fujita)
However, IF they were to bring up the English version, I'm afraid they will bring some other English Voice Actress to cover up Miku's voice. Then, if we were to compare to Japanese Miku's voice and the English Miku's voice, it would be different and then that wouldn't be Miku anymore...
Honestly, it should be Saki who's doing the English but if they decide some American voice actress will do it, I give up.
It doesn't matter whether the voice actress can pronounce the word or not. In the first place, didn't Vocaloid go by the pronounciation of each letter in the first place? "A" "E" "I" "O" "U". Like as of now, Vocaloid goes by the Hiragana pronounciation right? As long as they let Saki do the alphabet pronounciation, it should be alright... Not that I know anything about Vocaloid anyways.
@Ray
By the way, is this ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yey_itoPUqo ) What you were talking about? Honestly, she's really not that good of a singer... But what do I know about singing, eh?
No this is more of her music:

I'm not saying "Worship her as her english voice!", just throwing out a thought, it kind of defeats the "English Voice" in a sense without going for an actual english voice.
Saki has Engrish, not English.
And what makes you think Saki can't learn english?
What is an "English Voice" ?
The ability to speak English fluently without flaw?
Or the attractiveness of the voice that grabs the attention of others?
If Miku's voice turns out to be different, honestly it's no longer the "Miku" or the "English Miku" anymore. It's more like another Lola for me.
Again, this is all our opinion. You're speaking yours, I'm giving you mine.

Quick explanation... Many people seems to be worried about who will dub when there is such a thing, you only need a voice sample.
In fact you can take a sample from someone that speaks german and make a japanese vocaloid.
We can only pray for a good voice, but I'm skeptical.
I rather, "what's Japanese stay Japanese, what's American stays American."
