Microsoft’s Japanese launch of Kinect appears to be having trouble capturing public interest, despite the Xbox 360’s new-found family friendliness.
The scene in big electronics stores (the Yurakucho and Shinjuku branches of Bic Camera):
Meanwhile, in both stores the PS3 corner is showing some activity thanks to the appearance of GT5:
Interestingly, prior to the appearance of these photographs several anonymous 2ch posters were busy enthusing about how “packed” the stores were thanks to Kinect and how “amazing” the controller was – after being confronted with the photos they prevaricated, saying “you just missed THE BOOM” and “you had to wait 15 minutes to have a go,” and most interestingly of all, “there were loads of people, bringing their families too and such.”

Sold one million in 10 days; supposedly actual sales number, rather than shipped. Doing pretty well for a “fail” product.
Good thing MS was smart in one area–make a profit on each unit sold.
xbox is otaku console in Japan, and that wouldnt be changed. Why they cant be proud of that.
plus, they never do kinect in public. they are too shy.
I don’t get the big deal. The 360’s never been very popular on the Japanese market, Kinect or not.
kinect fails in japan. and eventually here. the kinect market is severly limited compared to the move and wii
What is there marketing pitch in Japan? You can’t even play that device in 90% of the houses.
