China’s campaign of intimidation against nations daring to acknowledge that one of its political prisoners received a Nobel Peace Prize is in full swing, with China telling Japan bluntly not to allow its ambassador to attend the awards ceremony and warning that there will be “consequences” for European nations who do attend.
Sources in the Japanese government have revealed China has told them not to acknowledge the award of the prize by sending a representative to the awards ceremony. The prize was this year awarded to Chinese democracy advocate Liu Xiaobo, currently imprisoned.
Rather than condemning China or at least telling them to mind their own business, Japan’s foreign minister stated Japan would “like to respond appropriately” to the demands, timidly avoiding saying whether Japan would actually attend or not.
Questioned in the Diet about whether the Japanese ambassador to Norway would attend or not, Japan’s prime minister was almost as cagey:
“The Nobel Peace Prize is universally esteemed to a great degree, so I’d like to consider attending […] I still think it would be desirable for the recipient to be released.”
The anaemic response by Japan is likely to reinforce the impression that Japan’s current prime minister regards himself as the governor of a Chinese province rather than the leader of a sovereign state.
The reaction of Japan contrasts sharply with that of France, also told by China that it should not attend – “Our ambassador attends the award ceremony every year, and this tradition will continue this year. The other nations of Europe have also indicated they intend to attend.”
Only the week before France signed a $20 billion trade deal with China.
10 European nations have already said they will attend in the face of Chinese admonitions that they “should not undertake any actions which will disrupt Chinese stability,” with China warning that “we will ensure any nation supporting him will be held accountable.”

Let's keep sending all our manufacturing and refinement know-how to China so they can make cheap consumer goods and processed metals etc. for us. After all, that won't ever have any problematic repercussions now if they decide to get pissy, will it?
You don't mess with the engine room while your ship is high at sea. China knows this and is trying to give the whole ship the pace it prefers and dictate conditions...
However no western nation will ever dream to bow its head like china expects them to do, no matter what consequences it may entail.
It would simply be against everything western democracies are based upon to do so.
It would be really easy to build new factories somewhere else, and I'm definitely not the only one who knows that.
Did anyone notice how many state visits India received lately, like Obama just now? It just might have something to do with India being a combination of high tech sites and cheap labour really similar to China.
Quite unlike China it's a democracy though, not a megalomaniac fashist regime.
Now where would you rather invest, China or India? I know where I would. ^_^
I would invest in Chines still, if you would pick India over china you don't know much about Business and economics.
>>However no western nation will ever dream to bow its head like china expects them to do, no matter what consequences it may entail.
It would simply be against everything western democracies are based upon to do so.
Dollars speak louder than votes. Western countries have already sold out their jobs, who gives a shit about democracy? They sold out their supposed principles for $30 DVD players at Wal-Mart.
We still got Mexico to fall back on.
USA had a good relationship with the USSR.
Ya see. Democratic countries can be friends with Authoritarian countries.
I wonder why China (government) act like some haughty bitches ? telling other countries to do what they want ? Superpower country with cheap labor force wage rules ?
Because they think they can.
In reality they can't do shit
...and the little engine thought, "I think I can, I think I can."
Make that the big, red, and angry engine.
"I wonder why China (government) act like some haughty bitches ? telling other countries to do what they want ?"
Look on the bright side. China is still decades away from reaching america's level of hypocrisy.
*"The reaction of Japan contrasts sharply with that of France, also told by China that it should not attend –"

So this time, China government threaten the European Nations ? what if "we ( EU )" don't follow ? I think this already cross the border of what is right/wrong since attending the Nobel Prize ceremony doesn't correlate with European Nations support the ideal democracy in China ( though, perhaps some do support )
To order democratic nations to not support democracy! China's shamelessness knows no bounds!
Attending such ceremony is not only a "tradition", but in this case an open declaration of our belief in democracy itself!
@美しい音
Regardless of your fantasies about world politics, you are essentially right, however:
-Democracy dies when you decide it does and stop fighting for your rights.
-Political games and ass-lickery have existed since the dawn of mankind and will exist until mankind does.
Also, democratic principles aren't something the government can decide about. They can trample, ignore and thwart them, but never erase them. While a democratic constitution exists, the level of democracy we get to enjoy is only our responsibility as individuals to create and mantain.
What died isn't democracy, but rather the national pride and idealism of the democratic countries. The same pride and idealism which gave it birth, in hope of a better future.
Chine-zen's can't help but obey whatever their CPC says. Most just follow the bandwagon that everyone else is riding on without understanding what the real deal is.
On another note, Liu Xiaobo's profile page [http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/peace/laureates/2010/index.html] at the Nobel Prize site seems to be garnering much support, locally and abroad.
Just hope the poor bastard survives jail term alive....
Quoted from http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/peace/laureates/2010/press.html
China's new status must entail increased responsibility. China is in breach of several international agreements to which it is a signatory, as well as of its own provisions concerning political rights. Article 35 of China's constitution lays down that "Citizens of the People's Republic of China enjoy freedom of speech, of the press, of assembly, of association, of procession and of demonstration". In practice, these freedoms have proved to be distinctly curtailed for China's citizens.
The Story Result :
For over two decades, Liu Xiaobo has been a strong spokesman for the application of fundamental human rights also in China. He took part in the Tiananmen protests in 1989; he was a leading author behind Charter 08, the manifesto of such rights in China which was published on the 60th anniversary of the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the 10th of December 2008. The following year, Liu was sentenced to eleven years in prison and two years' deprivation of political rights for “inciting subversion of state power". Liu has consistently maintained that the sentence violates both China's own constitution and fundamental human rights.
At least democracies ( and its principles ) don't die in this site and we should speak up our mind ( be it supporting or dejecting, be it Anon, it's ok )
I want to know what opinion do Chinese ppl themselves have regarding these ?
I know quite well what China did.
The USA tried to collapse the Euro some weeks ago to destabilize the EU. Just like the USA helped Greece to cover up their huge debts for many years. I guess the USA are really afraid of a strong Europe, because it would cost them the #1 position in the western world.
China stabilized the Euro by investing 3 digit billions in Europe and throwing 3 digit billions of dollars in the market. That sure was good for Europe, but China did it for their own agenda.
Democracy died ages ago. I for one, as a citizen of one of the EU member countries, can state so with complete confidence.
All that's left are political word games, ass-lickery, and face-saving.
Public opinion is power. And power is won by those with most influence.
I've already ceased to feel surprised at how detached the sankaku community is in terms of global politics. SankakuComplex simply ISN'T the right place to form your opinion and hatred towards a said country or nation.
Chinese bailed you Europeans out in the last Economic depression.
i meant china not chinese sorry.
No opinion, because most simply don't know about it. The chinese fag government does a pretty good job of brainwashing the general populace.
Don't underestimate developing countries.
The west is overestimating their prideful stupidity. I'm sad as a westerner.
They're being hypocrites. When it's about their matters, they always say "don't interfer with our internal matters!".
When it's totally up to other countries what ceremonies they attend and recognize, suddenly they seem to think meddling in other countries' decisions is ok.
China's at it again!!!
China: "NOME OF YA'LL BETTER GO NEAR THE BASKETBALL COURT I HATE THAT PLACE!"
Japan: "Ya dawg I totally won't go near it I'm just gonna go stand next to it over here thought alright? If I happen to fall in it's totally not my fault"
France: "SHOVE IT UP YOUR ASS CHINA YOU AIN'T THE BOSS OF ME!"
Rest of the class: "WHAT FRANCE SAID!"
If only diplomats would talk like that... but then they wouldn't be diplomats would they?
Ridiculously enough, with the state of the world as it is, I think they would be better diplomats if they did.
All that beating around the bush doesn't seem to work.
If you kill all the Chinese there won't be a Liu Xiaobo to save because you killed him, you twit.
Now the guy above me can just die since hes a racists, and I don't like them at all and they can all die for all i care(I hate Chinese racist even more since they are actually retarded most of them).
Anyway, Its good to hear that the Europe nations are growing some balls and are standing up to China(unlike japan). You need to remember that China relies on foreign investors to increase economic growth, and China being a dick is simply gonna make a lose lose situation which I don't give a shit.
Anyway I support the guy getting a Nobel prize whatever, but I personally don't think China should ever be Democracy since it doesn't work. And for all those whiners saying it can and blah, I'm Chinese and you go to China and have a first hand look, you'll see it won't work.
The French are acting all tough now
But then China will be like "WE DECLARE WAR ON YOU"
Then France will be like "GERMANY HELP US!"
The rest of the world should finally tell China to fuck off. I'd do that, in polite but very direct words.
You think China would boycott the EU, the USA or Russia? Think again. They need the trade.
Without the world China will collapse. The world will squiggle a bit but certainly won't collapse without China.
The bloated megalomaniacs in Beijing know that quite well. Those retards keep bluffing and saber-rattling because they think the rest of the world is dumb when in truth they are dumb.
i'm a chinese but i'll say fuck china and its bullying ethics.
SankakuComplex, the place to go for diplomacy expertise.
@Crim
yeah yeah, france doesnt have a good track record in war but remember that France is part of NATO
French NEVER surrender... until they actually start pushing troops
Until then they mainly mock from afar
like so - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9V7zbWNznbs (Monty Python)
Go France, for once.
Totally typical Japanese response though.
Seriously, what the hell CAN China do if all of Europe attends? They NEED the money that the whole freakin world is pouring into their country and they aren't gonna get a cent if they push everyone away.
@brownbear yes, it is an economic superpower to some degree, but there are some catches. the fact that they are an economic superpower, but have a government from the middle ages obviously does not help. and then theres the fact that there are BILLIONS of people in china, the fact that they JUST surpassed Japan in GDP actually doesnt mean too much since Japan is only a country of MILLIONS. the output per capita for china is still extremely low.
@Crim you sure its not just going to be "WE SURRENDER!" the moment anyone declares war on them?
Pff... people can flame here all they want, but it won't change the fact that western governments are silently accepting these circumstances under the table and will never pressure the chinese government to change.
Personally, I don't see why a rule of injustice on the other side of the world does something bad, is more worth discussing than a local government which claims to impersonate everything that is good accepting these things and (through intense economic relationships) even support the other government.
Especially since the arrogant chinese government says "fuck you" to any critics anyways, while your country is (at least I hope so) sets a high value on people's opinions.
But well, that's just my opinion.
Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize and suddenly made a military maneuver to kill more innocent Afghan citizens. Hell, even the Doctors without Borders organization is formally negotiating with the terrorist group, Taleban, to give medical supports to the poor Afghan citizens.
@Crim
I would really like to see how that plays out. Declaring a war on a NATO member state is equivalent to declaring a war on every member state.
...
...
...
I wonder if there's going to be a Hetalia yaoi doujin based on this conflict between China and Japan on the upcoming Comiket...
*licks lips*
@Crim they would not dare to ask for help from Germany. Remember their history.
@Schrobby In the past I'd like to say that to USA for messing up in the third world countries but now, it's China's turn. China is big enough to sustain itself, don't hope too much from it. US might need china over the rare minerals that China has a monopoly. It gonna be tough decision. Heard that Obama won't give a damn though.
Nobel Prize, especially Peace Prize is always controversial. Like last year's prize, this year one is too early. They should give it to him when China had turned democratic.
The case of China-Taiwan is also pretty much caused by different interpretation of Sun Yatsen's three principles (nationalism, democracy and people's livelihood or sometimes translated as socialism). Don't ask who Sun Yat-sen is, he is the father of modern China.
@Crim China decaring war on France? Why go that far? It'll be more like:
China: Oh, what's that France? You signed a $20 billion trade deal with us? Oh, I'm sorry! I think I must've lost it somewhere in one of my drawers. Aren't I a clutz? xP Soryyyyy! (^_^)
China to Japan: Don't recognize our dumbness! lulz
i'd like to point out china's view point on the nobel prize winner:
to them, he is simply stirring up trouble and, honestly, if someone was a nazi and got a nobel prize for peace, wouldnt you all be up in arms?
it's just different poltical view points and the nobel prize givers were just taking advantage of that to put a really unsubtle 'we're right you're wrong' in chinas face
Why is everyone so surprise? US has been doing these stuffs for decades. What is world conference and stuff? It is just powerful nations bullying little ones and giving them unfair treatments and deals.
US has been pressing japan to buy their problematic meats, asking them to have their military base in japan wherever they like. They are also pressing china to increase their yuan value.
What so surprising or different?
The world just have to accept that china that they redeem as third world country has once again risen and take over as a superpower. Not that i like china, their immigrants are flooding my country and i hate it. But life goes on and i just have to live with it.
Yup! They're afraid of China's Nukes! I say KILL ALL THE CHINESE! FUCK YOU CHINA! LIU XIAOBO
is the man!
That said we really should do with China's aggression to the world. I mean real hard diplomacy employed to it's so-so ally, NoKor. We really can't afford to have a non-democratic country here right now if we are to try get out of this economic flunk.
I had to say this, google "french military victories".
Just googled "french military victories". Found:
=> The Battle of Yorktown, Sep-Oct 1781. The decisive battle of the American Revolution, fought with equal parts French and American soldiers.
The U.S.A. exists because France's citizens fought alongside us when we needed them most.
And:
=>The irony is that France has actually won more battles and wars over the last six hundred years than any other country in Europe.
Finally:
=>-Stupid man: Did you know that there have never been any French Military Victories?
-Average man: Did you know that you're an idiot?
Question, what makes China so powerfull?
Nukes, well lare amount of countries in the world has them.
If they don't want to trade with the rest of europe then they're pretty screwd themselves. They make cheap stuff yes, but if they don't have anyone to sell them to then they're in a problem as big as ours.
@KrazedLumberjack
I don't thinks so. Currently the technological difference is not so far. You can't compare opium war again at that time it is swords and spears fighting against guns
To the anon above:
You don't underestimate the European Union. Sure the technology of both sides are not so far and China has the advantage in size, but have you forgotten how the Europeans deal with the matters before during the opium wars?
Underhanded,Sly,whatever you may call the tactic,it works effectively, poison the minds of their people and it all falls down..You don't just say that it's a fair match just because their technologies are not so far apart and even with China's economic/media bullying at other nations,I can really say that the Europeans were adept at something similar to these way back, gunboat diplomacy anyone?
And by the way, swords and spears? The Chinese have cannons centuries before the Europeans as well as firearms, although not as accurate as the Europeans',a firearm is still a firearm and in the right hands it's very deadly. They invented gunpowder you know...
In world war 2, France was the first country to delcare war on Germany after they invaded Poland. Sure, their president at the time was a bastard who gave half his country to the Germans so he could hide in the other half when things got tough. From what I know, frenches still hate that president whit a passion, especially since they don't have an history of letting other country threaten them.
Getting some weird vibes that if China goes to war with France(or maybe the entire European Union) it's gonna be a repeat of the Opium Wars...
@Anon I heard that from 19th century onwards the Germans made France pee on their pants
Not really...
Even if they lost most battles they had against Germany, the French were not afraid of them. That's why there were so many wars BTW...
The japanese government has to go just as well as the chinese one. Spineless chinalovers in Tokyo, megalomaniac bastards in Beijing. Both are a disgrace.
FUCK YOU CHINA!
And a toast to the amazing hypocrisy: "Only the week before France signed a $20 billion trade deal with China."
At this point they're delivering threats. I'm starting to think that China will soon open it's mouth too wide, and bite off more than it can chew. After all, everyone has trashed China at one point or another...
chinks are like teenage bully trying to pick a fight with seasoned boxer , now they are trying to fuck with EU . Are they retarded ? Yes , they are.
This level of ostracizing its OWN citizens is honestly very sad to watch.
This can happen because of ideological differences, which country is spared? not even the great USA (look at McCartism)
chinese nation better
no western nation beat us
me luagh your stupid nations
die with flames foreners
lol
Try harder.
It's just a troll, pretending to be chinese.
I'd say he's done a pretty decent job though.
china not bow foren devel
china govenmnt make no bad
you devel try hurt china
china fight west lie
As a Canadian Chinese, I have to say I'm disgraced to be Chinese because of how stupid the general Chinese mentality is. Their morale and discipline are really bad. Just because they are a economic superpower with a lot of industries in their country they think they can push a lot of people over, which sadly, they are doing well. Japan is definitely shit for not standing up for themselves, I mean a country that threatens other countries like that is bullshit. I feel that very soon WW3 might truly become real....
i agree with ya. i'm a chinese though not from china and i feel disgraced being recognized as a chinese since most people cant differentiate if ur from china or not.
Don't be ashamed of being chinese, the blame fall on the backward governement who manipulate your people whith lie and propaganda.
The fact that they resort to threat prove how afraid they are.
Nothin to be ashamed about. It doesn't matter what nationality you are; assholes will always be assholes.
Jeez, Here you are trying to mock us when your English is total garbage that even an elementary child can outperform you. It's even worse than my nephew who's pretty stupid and he can speak both mandarin and English fluently.
lol, unfortunately, china has not really fully participated in any real war for almost a thousand years... China went to great lengths to keep the Huns from taking over, and failed pretty heavily. the main threat of china is trade unfortunately, most other nations have become too heavily dependent on their cheap and, on frequent occasion, defective products. yes, they have the largest army and air force in the world, and nuclear devices, but thats not what other countries these days are afraid of thanks to the law of mutual destruction, the moment they decide to fire a nuclear missile, the entire world becomes an inferno, effectively spelling the end of human civilization as we know it. you, along with your "mighty chinese empire" will be consumed in the nuclear firestorm that will cover the earth, and if you somehow survive that, enjoy the nuclear winter that will be caused by such an event.
the leaders of the Chinese government seem to have the mindset of spoiled brats, though no one can do anything about it because of the monopoly it holds upon the world.
People should really stop using Google to try and communicate in other languages...
Hmmm, orly? 2000 years of history would like a word with you.
I believe Chinas ancestors would rage if they knew what their decendants are doing.
Wonder what Confucius would say.
Btw somehow its funny how big China couldnt beat little Japan in the 2. WW. But now they think they can boss others around.
The only chinese things western countries (or enterprises) are interested in are cheap labour and some rare resources China's selling cheaper than others.
Its all about making higher profits and we (the normal ppl) dont really benifit from this because of higher unemployment and so on.
Its a common misconception, but "rare earth minerals" arent at all rare, theyre exceedingly common the world over.
It's just china has no pollution laws or rights for their miners, so they can mine it 10x cheaper than anyone else.
If it came down to it the U.S or any other decently sized nation could startup their old R.E.M industry and snub china completely.
The China of today is unable to make even 2000 weeks of history.
