You know, this is something I've actually been concerned about--what if my chest is so flat that I really CAN'T get a mammogram done? I've never had one and I'm kind of worried that it would just end up being an incredibly embarrassing experience. D:
Well, mamogram is usualy for women over 35 or 40. I think until then, you'll surely have a child or two and your breasts may grow bigger, happens often.
If not, then I guess you just have to watch every changes in your breasts carefuly, with your eyes and hands.
Usually, it's women themselves who discover most of the abnormalities in their breasts anyway because mamogram is not done very often. Self check up is more important, I think.
I thought women were supposed to start getting them at 18...but apparently I'm mistaken. :P Thanks for the reassurance, though.

On the other hand, you do have to take family history into account. If there's a history of cancer in the family, then it's just smart to be extra careful.
Both with the physical examinations as well as the mammogram checks from time to time, to keep an up to date picture of what it should be looking like.
Makes it easier to spot abnormalities, if you know what the usual structures are.
Painful, perhaps, embarrassing? I wouldn't know because I'm a guy, however mammograms can be performed on women with all sizes of breasts, so not only you don't need to worry about it, you can be reasonably sure Aya is BSing just to get attention...
Worry not - there surely are scores of SanComjins who would be more than happy to inspect a flat chest for any unnecessary lumps.
