China’s reaction to the release of video showing its fishing ship ramming two Japanese coast guard vessels is to blame the incident on Japan, saying it was their actions which were illegal.

The Chinese foreign ministry press conference held in response to the leak laid the blame firmly on Japan:

“The reason the collision occurred was because Japan was interfering with and attempting to block the passage of a Chinese fishing vessel in the waters off the Diaoyu Islands, which are Chinese territory. Japan’s actions themselves were illegal.”

Chinese public opinion is even less accommodating:

chinese-public-opinion.jpg

“Japan should be crushed”

“The Diaoyu Islands are Chinese territory so it doesn’t matter who rammed them, it’s Japan’s fault for going there and ramming them”

“Technology is so advanced nowadays, it’s probably a fake”

In Japan public opinion is inflamed, despite the efforts of politicians and media to deflect attention away from the video’s content by trying to pretend the issue is that the video was leaked at all, not what it shows.

Surveys have already revealed the vast majority of the public wanted the government to release the video, and that a similar proportion approve of the leak.

The more paranoid elements of the ruling party have gone so far as to call it an “act of terrorism aimed at overthrowing the government.” Others in the party ludicrously blamed the leak on North Korea, saying they may have intercepted satellite communications.

Authorities have vowed to track down and arrest the elusive “sengoku38” whistleblower, though his current identity and how and when he came into possession of the video are completely unknown.

This creates the surreal possibility that the Japanese government will hunt down and imprison one of its own citizens for releasing a video of the incident, after having already released the captain of the ship which rammed two coast guard vessels without charge, flying him home to China in a chartered jet to a hero’s welcome.

So painfully obvious China want this confrontation. They violated the territorial waters and waited for the Japanese Coast Guard to show up...then rammed'em...so now they feel they can *legitimately* state their false claims to these islands. What a bunch of trolls.

yes and no. while its true that they officially do not have a standing army, they do have the SDF which is was created to defend Japan and its boarders if threatened. so if by chance they declare their coasts under martial law and a ship just so happens to cross into their waters and refuses to leave then they can technically fire upon said ship, board and aresst them for trespassing etc etc

"...they do have the SDF which is was created to defend Japan and its boarders..."

Indeed, but the JSDF functions more like a border patrol with military grade equipment than an actual army because:

"All SDF personnel are technically civilians: those in uniform are classified as special civil servants and are subordinate to the ordinary civil servants who run the Ministry of Defense. There are no military secrets, military laws, or offenses committed by military personnel; whether on-base or off-base, on-duty or off-duty, of a military or non-military nature, are all adjudicated under normal procedures by civil courts in appropriate jurisdictions."

Some people seem to think that all self defense must be done in a reactionary nature.

Self Defense can be done pro-actively too, Usually in the form of avoidance, deterrence and deescalation. If it came to war though, you can damn well expect that the self defense force would be an 'army'.

Unfortunately Japan is decades behind China in the unfortunate case of it coming to war. This is where pro-active self defense comes in, China is big and aggressive, it throws its might all over... and it is sadly my opinion despite my like of the Chinese, that there government agenda's really need to be shut the fuck down.

Then you shouldn't hope for a change of power, actually. The LDP is pro-censorship and will give in to each and every religious and feminist pressure in this regard (since it helps their agenda). Neither the current nor any other possible government will ever give in to other western demands like banning whaling etc.

The LDP will probably put up a fight against China, but frankly, as an anime fan I couldn't care less about that if they also want to censor my animu and mango.

Em...actually that's because US ignored China and Taiwan's protest and their claim over the islands, and handed the islands over to Japan back then.

To be honest, those islands is no more belong to Japan than China, but Japan strongly believe the islands belong to them because "US says so" and if anything does go wrong, they could always drag US into this if needed.

The world is full of territories that changed owners in WW2, against the wishes of someone. For example the southernmost Kuril Islands. So, simply denying the transfer that happened during/after the WW2 means absolutely nothing. I'm myself from a country that lost 10% of its historical area, including the second largest city. Today they still belong to the WW2 offender and will most likely do so forever. If China really wants Senkaku, it needs to attack and occupy, not stare at meaningless history books.

Quite apart from whether the territory assignment was fair in WWII, it's 2010 now and almost all the people involved are dead by now. The Chinese living now have no more claim to the Senkaku Islands than they have to any other piece of rock on the planet.
You aren't born entitled to anything except possibly for that which you already have. And even then there are a lot of people who say that has to be earned as well, through things like honour, magnanimity, decency, and suchlike. And I haven't seen much of that coming from either the Chinese government, or its people, I'm sorry to say.

What goes around really do comes around i guess.

BTW, the land is not vital due to oil, its more to do with fishing territory. If that land belongs to China, thats huge loss to japan fishing zone and huge gain to china

China also plays a huge role in the world economy.

Knowing the Chinese government, they are more likely to cripple the world economy and let its people suffer just to show the world "their strength and preserve their sovereignty", than the US to wage war against them.

People don't see that this dispute between Japan and China is being spurred on by the US internally and covertly. The US want's to cause tension and have china attack Japan so that the US can come in and "protect" the Japanese people, but secretly securing economic dominance, by going to war with the Chinese.

Don't fall for this petty back and forth distraction, some may say any and every country on this planet would be crazy to go to war with China, that is until a certain superpower powers starts to be sapped away.

Its going to be a large conflict douchebag. Even if China boasts a large functional force, sinophobics + U.S + Japan (probably by then their army ban regulations would be lifted) can even the number issue out.
God if diplomacy was so simple would there be a need for international consulates/embassy/organisations to maintain these relationships?

I usually don't like being mean, but you are absolutely fucking retarded. The United States is going to spend more money and soldiers to start a THIRD war against one of its biggest economic partners to protect another economic partner when it can just as easily trade with both of them? Take your conspiracy theory and shove it up your ass. That is some of the dumbest shit I have ever heard.
