Rarely has splattering naked girls liberally with fluids proven detrimental to the success of an anime, but Hyakka Ryoran Samurai Girls appears to be one such case.
The ink splatter censorship the series is known for probably has not done much for its popularity – for an ero-anime adaptation of an ero-franchise the censorship is heavy and the risqué content light, assuring the anime has rapidly become one of the season’s least talked about anime in spite of some positive assessments by those bothering to watch it.
Seriously i agree with the anon, why the downvotes TenguSan? I prefer the ink blot splatter censors that shitty magical rays of light that fabricate out of no where.
Sigh the only thing that will kill me is the wait for those dvds and for them to be subbed D=
@Ghost Dog: good question, man. this show doesn't look very high on plot (but then again, maybe it's fab, idk), but i know i was watching censored versions of high school of the dead just so i could see what was going on, even if the gore was toned down. then again, my interests are pretty character-oriented, so i didn't mind too much.
Exactly, plus in all honesty I actually like the black ink. It's a hell of a lot more creative then other studio's marketing campaigns for DVD's. Plus it fits with the art style so I don't mind at all. As long as those ink blots are removed upon BD release I don't mind.
After watching up to episode 5 and determining that the flaws of the show are that the comedy's not that great, the ecchi is low and censored, and the lack of story is kind of annoying(at least up until half of its run, but I haven't seen 6 yet so I can't say just yet), this show is the most forgettable of the season for me.
agree, is not about the censored/edit, the show haves good visuals, but is a very average show, the characters dont help to love it and the story is pretty poor.
But, yeah I prefer a lot more this kind of censorship than the awful ray of light/steam.
i think that all the censors should be replaced with this image, as it perfectly relays the message that the creators and/or the TV station wish to express to the viewers:
- regardless if its "funny" ink, blobs, shadows, steam, rays, mosaic or anything else (like recent examples of censoring censorship, such as blobs over mosaic ...)
- regardless of reasons - greedy bait for bd/dvd (mostly non-mosaic) or cowardish yield to overinterpreted-constitution-violating #175 of JPC (mostly mosaic). Although while the former is logically excusable for marketing reasons (putting aside if it's actually efficient), the latter is completely retarded (even more so, if you consider what doesn't have to be censored in e.g. less usual fetish JAVs, but that terrible clitoris can't be seen at all cost)
So to answer: "Would these people prefer random rays of light?"
I couldn't care less. TV version of this show is macabrically censored - that's all that matters. imho.
It's already been shown that the Hanzo character prefers other girls, she may end up bisexual, due to what the preview for the next episode suggests, but for now she's fully M for the princess.
And he's not such a bad fella actually. Kinda reminds me of Shiro, and then I mean the version from the game itself, rather than the Anime adaption.
I'm one of those bothering to watch this series, and I think that for censorship, they at least made an effort with it.
Ridiculously enough, it's the one that messes the image the least, with the magical rays of light being the second worst after covering things with random things like bats and bears like Rosario+Vampire
Definitely a fan of the ink censoring. Its a fresh idea on censoring somthing with a unique art style. would prefer no censoring, but, what can you do right?
Honestly, i tried checking this out but stopped watching when I saw the ink splatter censorship. So this isn't; uncensored even on ATX? What a shame, an interesting art style isn't enough to get me to watch a fanservice anime like this, it needs to show stuff too. If it was a serious anime it'd be a different story though.
I need to catch up on this again. Like others have said this censoring is far better than the usual bars of white or black thrown across the screen and when it comes down to it actually adds to the art style of the anime (considering ink is also used in some fight scenes and the like, not just for censoring).
bukkake? where? oh the black ink....
better then random rays of light (even indoors at night) or strange slowly rotating flowers.
Think of it this way: the more censorship there is, the more the DVD is going to kick ass! ^^
(waits for the downvote >.>)
Why the downvotes?
Would you prefer black boxes or ink blots? Maybe Parental controls don't exist. Oh wait parents aren't parenting...
Seriously i agree with the anon, why the downvotes TenguSan? I prefer the ink blot splatter censors that shitty magical rays of light that fabricate out of no where.
Sigh the only thing that will kill me is the wait for those dvds and for them to be subbed D=
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei had the best censors of all time
*looks at the ink*
Looks like a certain squid-girl has a part-time job in the editorial department~
bad self-esteem i guess ^^
What's the point of watching a serious' TV release anymore if it's incomplete and you'll have to shell out cash for the full thing?
Fans might as well skip the TV Airing and wait for the Blu Ray/DVD.
Ika-Musume is a naughty girl vomiting ink all over the place. We should punish her. ^_^

I watched the first 2 episodes of this censored and I decided to put it on hold until the discs are out. It's THAT interesting.
It might as well be that way other wise get the BD.

"Check her ink!"
Censoring is shit, but at least the ink blotches are some variation from the usual and fit the visuals.
Well, we still have loli exhibitionism and pic#16 has escaped the censors as well. Golden Shower! lulz
It does look like something interesting is happening in pic 16, but I think that's just water.
Water is boring. Imagination ftw! ^_^
Unless it's KissxSis, in which case you don't need to use imagination...
another porn? I'll pass.
I'd better go spend time with my real, extremely cute, soft and adequately wet girlfriend.
Yeah, there is NONE of what you spoke of.. Fucking trolled us!
But yeah, nobody watches this show anyways..
I actually love watching this show. It's quite funny and seems to have a plot lurking somewhere, or at least they keep hinting to one.
It's more like there's a blot lurking everywhere.
dooohohohoho

At least the ink-splatter censorship goes along with the art style, so it makes it seem less intrusive.
If the thing absouletly has to be censored, I prefer the ink blots to spontaneous sun flares. (Of course I prefer it to be not censored at all).
Certainly better than most of the magical light ray censoring we see now or the mystery shadows that came before it.
*clears throat*

I find the censoring funny, it is the viewer's fault if they take it seriously. If they hate it so much they need to wait for the BD...
Would these people prefer random rays of light?
Censoring is censoring.
- regardless if its "funny" ink, blobs, shadows, steam, rays, mosaic or anything else (like recent examples of censoring censorship, such as blobs over mosaic ...)

Huh? I though this anime was popular in Japan. I guess not :(
crap anime needs real yuri
none of the fake yuri; where the girls like the fail-lead-male character
Mution fucking supported!
It's already been shown that the Hanzo character prefers other girls, she may end up bisexual, due to what the preview for the next episode suggests, but for now she's fully M for the princess.

Plus the show is funny enough, and as mentioned the plot tantalizing enough that you don't really notice the ink blots that much.
Least that's the situation in my case anyway.
Its too bad if its popularity isnt doing well.. I think its "cool looking" style wise at least.
Yup, it's a nice change from the usual style.
i love the artstyle being used here. sad the censors are fucking it up.
will just have to wait with 1080p Blu Ray goodness :)
Black bukkake? I thought bukkake was white.
i m not that bothered with the ink splats compare that to rays and other what nots i think ink splats are better
Definitely a fan of the ink censoring. Its a fresh idea on censoring somthing with a unique art style. would prefer no censoring, but, what can you do right?
u didnt see the bukkake? its when jubei shoots a water gun on sen's face. tsk why are u all talking about black bukkake inks and sh*t dumbf*cks.
too much ccensoring on everything now adays
if i had a choice of oppai anime between queens blade and Hyakka Ryoran, Hyakka Ryoran wins pretty easily.
both series produce great figures however.

In Nagasaki, they like bukkake. They go funky for your love
Whatever. I'll just w8 for BR...
Ika Musume what have you done...
IKA MUSUME BUKKAKE!!!
