Aya is one of the best voice actresses around. She may have made some errors like talking about her private life, but she's only human. The bashers, probably all former "fans", are a bunch of idiots.

It depends, really... she may be doing something similar to what the anime industry is doing in that she's doing shock-value now so in the future when she is actually acting more like herself, it doesn't bring as much attention? No idea if it'll work, but she appears to still be in a transition stage to enhancing her image to something she feels more comfortable with. All I care about is she keeps voice acting personally, since of course I don't have easy access to her other stuff outside of Japan.

Having such an ultimatum for the Otaku will of course make them face the gritty reality that she doesn't really need them like they may think she does in their twisted minds. Fair-weather fans are the epitome of a waste of time.

If more Haruhi, then more Aya, that's all I want. I'd love to see her doing other voice work as well though. It would truly just suck if she gave up on it because of such things, which is definitely a possibility.

None of this drama really concerns me but so much (it is entertaining to read about though). However, I would like a full time Seiyuu Aya (however unlikely that may be now)

She works as seiyuu in 6 ongoing anime this season. To me it`s about full time work. Remind you, it includes not only a character`s voice lines, but more, like singing in related drama CDs, appearances in various occasions with title`s other seiyuus etc.
I still call Hirano Aya as a working seiyuu.

I just see the GENUINE talents talk less and spend more time being creative than talking about their sex lives on national TV.

She imitates voices real well. BIG FUCKING DEAL. Can she sing well? Can she create any sort of content for her songs? BIG FUCKING NO.

Despite the equally fanatical crowd of fans she's attracted, I haven't heard even a small blunder coming from Rie Kugimiya.

If you're talking about Rie Tanaka, she's getting close, but she seems to handle it well(or maybe her agents did all that work).

Hell, Nana Mizuki jumps between voice-acting and singing in big live concerts almost flawlessly(although her singing techniques are only slightly better than Hirano).

So NO, GENUINE TALENTS WON'T BE SCARED AWAY, because Aya Hirano isn't one of them.

I think I remember she couldn't sing too well initially, but she practiced hard and on top of that learned the guitar so she could sing AND play the Haruhi songs well. She earned tremendous respect from me for that, definitely. Learning guitar to basically appear more like a character for her fans really does speak highly for how she felt about the role and those who loved her for the role.

...the amusing alternate was when Mikuru's voice actress, whose name slips my mind at the moment, was here as well for AX in 2007 and intentionally sang the horrible Mikuru version of episode 00's song and the majority of the audience who hadn't seen Haruhi yet had to be told by the hostess something akin to "Did you get it? She intentionally sang it badly" and this wave of "Oooooooooh!" flooded the arena... meanwhile I was laughing my balls off at the sheer awesomeness and courage it must have taken to do that live.

This should attract MORE seiyuu. They get a massively devoted and obsessed fan base for only using their voice. It isn’t backstabbing when the seiyuu 'betrays' them by destroying their fragile fantasy ideal. By destroying the ideal these fans have, you might as well be destroying a child’s view on Santa or God.

the vast majority of the people who buy anime stuff, most likely wouldnt touch things she is attached to anymore. so there are alot of bridges she burnt there.
