There's a channel called Nolife? That's one hell of an insulting name...

Saying nobody cares about "le grand journal" isn't true, some people enjoy the show. You don't, and as a remainder, Canal+ war the first channel to air Evangelion, Escaflowne, Cowboy Bebop and some anime movies... they contributed in more way than TF1 or TMC in implanting anime in France.

Nolife on the other has great shows, but I find its definition of "otaku" pretty vulgar most of the time. I won't say the whole channel is bad though.

French people seem to have an inferiority complex about not speaking English, so they probably relish the chance to hate on music in another language.
In fairness though, shows like this are terrible regardless of what country they're from.

The same thing can be said about how English people seem to resent French people. How many time do I see the English population insult the French for some crap that happened oh so many years ago. And frankly, I don't like Miku either. Her voice simply isn't natural enough.

While the colonialist thing might have been right for a certain time, French people resent learning English because a large part of English teacher are f*king bad. I'm French and during my whole scholarship, only 2/3 out of all the English teacher I had (+/-10) could be considered good, they were interested in teaching and by English culture, where most of teacher only learn how to teach and do nothing more.

Anyway, the whole bunch of people commenting about French ranting non stop and claiming we are all xenophobic... you're no different, there are French like that, but not all, it's like us saying all American came from Texas or being all Redneck.

The commentary from the show on a Chinese singer with a very high pitched voice would have been the same, we just (for a major part) can't stand this type of voice, popipo not being a clever choice too. Some people hate Miku, they have the right to do so, deal with it.

I admit I was grossly exaggerating there, but it is true that there is a lot of nationalistic pride attached to the French language, combined with a certain bitterness that 19th century colonial attempts to establish French as the global lingua franca failed, and it was the English language that filled this role instead. Hence, some French people seem to resent speaking English and avoid doing so wherever possible (obviously this is a broad generalisation).

As a french, even I can't help but agree. For some very obscure reason, french media has been doing japan-bashing for decades, while even the deepest shit coming from deh USA is considered as gold (we hate your politicians and your tv shows tho, we're tsundere for you). This show is pretty popular and serious in France and even though is broadcast in a pay channel, free streaming is available.

As a French Otaku, I understand what they mean. Miku Hatsune is cool but paying for listening those song is a little sick. It has to be say and no harm was done by saying it in this show, it just mean it's true, you have to face it.

Am I mistaken in that Miku isn't really liked much outside of Otaku culture? I mean aren't more of her work Denpa songs anyway? Japan is a technological hub of course, so Hatsune Miku is a revolution in more ways than one, especially that concert, but I figured it wasn't uncommon that this music grated on the nerves of those not embedded in the otaku culture?
