This just proves that, top anime with ongoing series like One Piece oe Naruto don't produce any good movies :/
No Jin-Roh? Ghost in the Shell? Fail list.
No Rurouni Kenshin movies? Decent list though.
Slightly upset that Totoro made the list, but otherwise I am completely okay with this. lmao at weeaboos lamenting the fact that only real masterpieces of Japanese culture and storytelling were chosen.
A Top 10 list with 13 items is a fail by definition.
I was a little disappointed that Totoro was chosen, but otherwise I am completely okay with this. lmao at dumb japanophiles raging that only true masterpieces of Japanese culture and narrative were chosen.
Kenshin movies was good, fun movies, but not masterpieces.
Having seen the most of the list I can pretty much agree on those titles making the top. An OVA based on famous series doesn't yet mean that it's an outstanding movie on its own.
Though my favorite has always been Spirited Away and I would have wanted to see it taking at least some spot.
Btw does anyone know where to torrent Summer Wars with English subs?
Miyazaki films with their Shinto references are always gonna dominate. Much in the same way that any film in the West with as much violence, profanity, and sex as it can handle in an hour and a half would. But I'm not gonna knock. Miyazaki films are classic. Princess Mononoke (the more blunt Shinto film), Kiki's Delivery Service (the more useless film), and Spirited Away are my favorites by him though... the rest of these I can't see how save for Akira, GotF, and Taiyō no Ōji. GitS needs to be up there, no doubt.
Well, the first movie is a classics no doubt. I didn't appreciate Gits2:Innocence at all. Solid State Society was good but not too outstanding on its own.
Urusei Yatsura 2? and missing,
- Spirited Away
- Princess Mononoke
- GITS
- Millennium Acress or Paprika
Though I can't give the list a fail since just yesterday I was extolling how good Nausicaa is - so glad to see it at #2.
the only i could complain of be out of the list is Porco Rosso, cause is my favorite Miyazaki film, but I can understand why is not there.
Ya know, this may sound strange, since I haven't even seen it yet, but somehow I expected Paprika up there. I really do need to watch that... but it's a very big surprise to see Summer Wars up with those titles and it's a recent one. *goes to watch it*
IMHO If Jin-Roh isn't there it's an auto-fail.
no Makoto Shinkai films?
No Evashit? I'm okay with this.
It's disappointing.. there's not even one Makoto Shinkai Movies,
How do these panelist of judges 'judge' it ?... still shrouded in mysteries
Paprika was good in the same way Ultraviolet was good, or the way a porno is good. Visually. The plot was just strong enough to hold together the action scenes.
It does not deserve to be on the list.
Sword of the Stranger deserves to be on this list, purely by virtue of that single godfuckingawesomely done sword fight.
Seven samurai and DBZ movie 8 :( Brolly!
Dont feed me please
I don't see anything wrong with the list. While the movies that you guys mention are good, but it's not as good as the ones mentioned above, which IMO is culturally significant for the Japanese, and not for the weeboes wannabes
Grave of the Fireflies > Castle of Cagliostro
Where is place 8 & 9?
You think the K-ON! movie will make this list?
Oshi is always criticized by the fact he avoid animation and focus more in script/cinematography.
Ghost in the shell haves a lot of "just moving the mouth" scenes.
At least the mouth moved, which is better than a lot of anime
lol, thats true.
GITS movies where gay, both tv seasons where far best
I can't comprehend how Oshii can be so acclaimed. He make very simple matters look more complex than they should be with long existential self-questioning sequences. And people praise him for this brain masturbation.
I mean, I love questionning, but sometimes it just becomes stupid.
I'm glad his works aren't in this top, it shows the judges weren't fooled.
And I agree with 13:03 anon, the TV shows are the real thing. They truly empathize the good aspect of Shirow's works.
(I know I'm gonna get downed, weaboos =p )
It's a shame for Jin-Roh, at least I saw 10 of the 13 movie
No Satoshi Kon movies? people have no taste.
What the fuck with japan, each one of them is better than Castle in the Sky
Agreed. Why has Japan's best animation director been left off the list. Where are 'Perfect Blue', 'Millenium Actress', 'Tokyo Godfathers' and 'Paprika'?
Yup, at least one Satoshi Kon movie should be on the list. The list is quite lopsided. Oh well...
Agreed!
Ghost in the shell is a top winner amongst worldwide cinema productions.
This list is a sugar-filled fail.
I can tell you've not seen many foreign films.
i know right? GITS first film was a WIN IMO not surprised Akira made the list nor am i to see many Ghibli titles on there too (though im some what shocked to not see princess monanoke(sp?) or spirited away on the list
Yup, Mononoke Hime should be up there as well.
Pfft. Almost every Ghibli should be on the list, maybe with the exception of Howl's Moving Castle, that shit just confused me more than anything. Good art though, can't hate good art.
Could you, possibly, use punctuation? Your comment came on as a run-on sentence that didn't mean much. We really are interested in what you have to say...you just have to put it a way that we can understand.
Seriously though, Ghost in the Shell should be on this list...
Exactly! Where IS Ghost in the Shell?
Jin-Roh sucked, what the hell are you talking about?
/agree no ghost in the shell
but Akira not making top 3?
W T F
fuck yeah, Nausicaa!! nice pic too :D
They were never good to begin with.
Fail list is fail!
Never heard of any of those anime, wtf?!
Not heard of any of these? I would suggest you see a few then before claiming a list fail. Akira is the one anime that started it all for me.
someone lack of classical culture?
You never heard of any of those, Abel? O_O
Those are good movies. I saw them all, save Taiyō no Ōji.
It's just that the list misses some extraordinary ones. Diversity wouldn't hurt, either. Oh well...
I'm seriously only heard about Akira and Totoro even though i didnt watch the movies.
But the rest of them is a mistery to me...
@abel-liegod-2
Perhaps you should put a rest to Naruto or Bleach or whatever mainstream shit you watch.
At least try to culture yourself.
Sorry, not interested in any of those shit movies.
I rather watch the shit i already know like One Piece and Bleack thank you.
then you are SERIOUSLY missing out, I wont lie and say I saw them all but some (for example, Akira) are great and although I do like One Piece...you really are only making yourself look ignorant as all hell
then again that is the stereotype for people who only watch those anime, hell met someone who loved Naruto but never even heard of Cowboy Bebop, how that is possible is beyond me
That lil troll got fed enough to last a full winter of hibernation. GJ abel
@Abel Liegod(!) Maybe you should educate yourself a little more in anime. All those titles are on elementary level of knowledge!
Said in all friendliness.
I have to discuss anime online because people in my area only know what they see on Adult Swim. <.<
Have people never heard of a troll.
I suggest you to try watching Summer Wars.
Its one of the newest good Anime movie
summer wars have a great plot and deserve to be seen but the artistic realisation is shitty ,TV anime quality for me (with just a little better animation)
Weird, I thought Nausicaa and Totoro would be #1/#2 for sure.
Both on sales numbers and quality..
That's, odd..
In my modest opinion One Piece movie 6 can compete with many of those movies.
thats cuz one peice and naruto are anime turned anime movies??? none of the anime movies are ever good unless judged for pure fan service
Thanks for the list Artefact.
Btw, the Anime or its movie quality depend on which studio responsible for it & for the sake of making money. It's not like the manga author make it.
Does smt have to be in top 10 to be consider good, what it is that mean good to you? it's just ur personal opinion when dragging other 2 titles in to bash them which is lame.(because I see that a lot)
Top 5 were classics but a bit too rote of a suggestion. But they are unquestionably great either way. Summer Wars I thought was very well made, but I thought Girl Who Leapt Through Time was a bit better, despite the crazy plottwist.
Kinda sad that even Japanese audience doesn't seem to remember Porco Rosso though. IMO Miyazaki's best movie.
Girl Who Leapt Through Time was better than Summer Wars for me as well.
I preferred Spirited Away to My Neighbour Totoro =/
No, they do, its just these movies are on a completley different scale.

Where the fuck is ponyo?
