Masamune Shirow‘s classic manga Appleseed is receiving yet another anime adaptation – this time a 13 episode TV series entitiled “Appleseed XIII.”
The anime will be in the same 3D CG style as the two recent movies, but the story is said to be otherwise unconnected to the movies – although Deunan and Briareos are still the lead figures.
Masamune Shirow himself is to be involved, apparently promising something closer to the manga than the previous adaptations.
Production is by Jinni’s Animation Studios (known for various CG animations), with Production IG cooperating, and staff include a number of figures involved in Stand Alone Complex. Development is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2011.

CG style Appleseeds have been proven to be big failures. I don't expect it to fare any better this time around.
Am I the only one that liked the 1988 OVA version?
You´re not the only one that makes 4 so far. ^_^
You're not the only one. I still like the 1988 ova.
Now that I think about it...hey Shirow, how about adapting Orion to anime? 13 eps would be more than enough.
Orion would be nice.
You're not the only one, I liked it, too.
I watch it truth is Appleseed has a cult following in Japan yet even if the 3D movies suck the Manga's manage to sell well.
i think this is the first "naughty" anime/manga picture i ever downloaded off the internet back in the 90s
What's with 13 anime episodes these days? The usual episode length were 26 episodes and 13 episodes were a rarity.
I like Appleseed.
IMO, it's science fiction on par with stuff H.G. Wells put out. Matter of fact, this could almost be an Anime/Manga tribute to "The Shape of Things to Come".
It's much the same plot, the movie at least. Civilization has been brought low by global warfare, to the point of savagery. From the ashes, a new, scientific/social planning based civilization has emerged willing to take in all of humanity with open arms. This civilization creates a paradise on earth for all mankind who embraces it and mankind is even looking to the stars.
But, this paradise is threatened from within by dissatisfaction. It is not a cruel or oppressive false paradise, but man is directed on a constantly onward, industrious path and there are those who'd wish it different, those who do use the old phrase from Milton: "The mind is it's own world and can make a heaven hell and a hell heaven"... So from seemingly unthinkable ways, this paradise is threatened by internal strife that emerges from nowhere, added by the remnants of power from older empires trying to destroy it.
The main characters are the perfect outsiders coming in. They've fought in wars so long they don't know or care which sides they started out in, and they've almost traded their humanity with the mechanized Russian being more feeling related and the beautiful lady being more militaristic and orderly. And they live like rodents in the ruin, then one day a nice lady from the developed city comes and just walks up to them and welcomes them. They are amazed at what was just handed to them and when assigned as cops they take the job eagerly. To them, the residents of Utopia who turn against their society, even people who were born there and pushed paper and pencils (the digital equivalent) until they just snapped and grabbed a rocket launcher look like traitors and pure insane, they can't understand why anyone would reject such a society/world vision.
So it's good he's re-visiting and refining it.
I do, however, long some day for an Anime version of "Orion". Mostly sci-fi fun, but I like the connection with the I-Ching/Taoist/Buddhist philosophy to Binary code/computers, combining science and magic in a very thoughtful way, not just a "make it happen" way.
indeed. i watch both the CG movies and the old anime movie ( cut one ). They were mediocre. Maybe the series can be intressting
I think it's great to finally see a TV show. You just can't shove the content of the manga into movies.
Yes there is to much to cover in just few movies so a TV show is the better decision.
The anime will be in the same 3D CG style as the two recent movies
Do not want.
Signed. The movies before already were a huge disappointment.
I remember years ago that Haruhiko Mikimoto would have some involvement with the TV show. Is this still the case?
I think I am the only one who liked (or at least didn't mind) the two CG movies. So yeah, good news IMMHO.
I wish my junk looked like that.
What has science done?!
the 1988 movie was fun to look at but it was extremely dumb so it was difficult to watch.
on the other hand, the 2007 Appleseed Saga Ex Machina was downright the most soulless awful letdown I'd ever seen. The animation failed so hard that I couldn't even connect the characters voices to their bodies... their movements were so artificial all I saw was a room of guys sitting in front of screens instead of a finished product.
damn I hope the new one is better. the name is so clever and it's got such great dystopian promise...
very interesting thumbnail O_O
That's a huge ass dildo.
Better to stretch herself for Briareros, my dear.
Deunan sure has nice training equipment for her warm up stretching. ^_^
I could just imagine the cramps if you dont! Holyshit!
Yeah always warm up before exercising.
And by the looks of it, she's stretching both holes for maximum input and output...
t-t-thats a dildo?!?!?!!!?!?
I think its some kind of bio suit.
It's a huge fuck machine. Look at the hydraulics between Deunan's legs.
See that big smile on her face? ...yeah.
Hey, its a great way to get women to join the Police force...
Get to shoot people
Get to Shoot robots
Fly in your very own power suit
And get pounded silly while doing it!
You people crack me up so much.
That's so you hit all of the walls.
Your lack of knowledge of the the manga classics astounds me.
You call it "landmate", I call it painfull!
Land and mating yes, connection of machine and woman.
it's called a landmate people, get yourselves an intron depot book
The hydraulic cylinders will move up and down with each step. The designer of that thing is a genius! ^_^
Not sure whats going on here... Have to admit, kinda do like...
The Japanese robots all have a secret function to serve as sex machine, didn't ya know.
Hydrological bio-suit dildos are all the rage I hear among our troubled teens of todays society looking for a career in mechanical engineering.
Why dear sirs, it is a dildo suit.
Never leave home without it.
Where do I get that thing my wife asking for it. She is lonly alone at home.
I love Masamune Shirow's art..such plush looking asses on those characters of his (despite how thin they all tend to be)
can't wait for more appleseed goodness in animated form. Hopefully they'll do as good a job as they did with Stand alone complex
What a tight ass we have here :3
Tighter the better!
A huge ass-dildo?
13 Episodes? That's already FAIL. They'd have a hard time to squeeze enough relevant content into 26 episodes. The movies only covered small portions from the latter half of the series. Add to that that Appleseed, the manga, is still unfinished itself.
I'm not convinced of this but i'd like to get surprised in a positive way. It's not easy with so few episodes.
It'll probably only cover the first half, with a second series shortly following, to cover the second half. Just like GitS SAC has TLM 2nd season.
What makes you think the series will have the complete story? I really doubt this. I bet they plan several seasons should it be a success.
Maybe they'll get more episodes to cover the rest if the ratings are good.
