Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt’s perverse antics are rapidly gaining a substantial following – even the flagrant absence of anything approaching a virgin is not enough to turn opinion against the title…
@lilmetal As long as it's not Sci-Fi's Ani-Monday. Like, I'm glad they're airing anime and most of it I wouldn't have known about or have wanted to look into otherwise but, aside from way too many commercials, they censor too much. And this being 11PM-1AM when you can actually get away with that kind of stuff. But I have full confidence this will get licensed.
@lilmeta - cartoon network is probably already having a fit over the fact that it blatantly rips off the animation style and some themes of the "powerpuff girls".
As you know, American media companies tend to get nervous when it comes to controversy.. and a very sexed up Japanese parody of an American kids cartoon which was on that same channel is something they would probably rather avoid. if they DO air it, they will censor it to death to save face.
If Adult Swim does pick this up, I want Adult Swim Voice Actors, not the usual contract-bound licensed actors. I want H. Jon Benjamin, Mila Kunis and Matt Senreich in the same scene.
Funimation EASILY does the best English voiceover work in the industry nowadays plus if this shows goes to the Funimation Channel, there will be NO censorships, PERIOD. They even leave in the OP and ED of an anime series usually untranslated (though Ouran had the English-translated OP/ED I believe) with karaoke even + all the sexuality, violence and cussing are left in.
I keep watching Funimation Channel and I keep hearing the S and F words in many more mature-rated anime series. That is how you handle anime.
If it goes to network channels like Cartoon Network or Sci-Fi, YES it is going to be butchered to all hell.
If this does ever get dubbed, expect somebody to think it's a show for kids and then be horrified when they see their child watching a half hour of sexual innuendo.
I actually think that it will get picked up by an American distributor. And I have to agree with Shippoyasha, legitamete companies like FUNimation won't cut anything nowadays, not from a DVD or BluRay release. Strike Witches made it past tottaly unscathed. While I can argue the quality of some of their voice actors and some of their dubs, I can always switch the language.
However, I think that if it does get licensed in the states, it will be a strait-to-DVD release, in all likelyhood it won't see an actual broadcast. As said before, Anime and Comedy Central don't mix, so the only place where this could be broadcast stateside is on a particularly late night spot on Adult Swim (This show's style and theme just doesn't seem to gel with Syfy eiher, Adult Swim is the only one that really seems to fit the bill). If it is show on the normal CN, or any other channel, it will definetely be censored in it's broadcast run.
Ray - they also sometimes take out sexual references/innuendo and replace the dub with a more harmless sentence. they also cut out scenes if it is too sexually explicit or very controversial. (adult swim has its limits.. they censor more then you think).
also the fact that it parodies one of cartoon network's kids shows is defiantly not a bonus in their eyes and is guaranteed to stir up controversy (mostly in america)
as i said, i doubt that adult swim (cartoon network) will air it at all... and if they do, they will probably censor rape it to avoid such hassles.
Do you really care so much about a TV release in the USA? With all the censoring and localization usually involved? Do you remember what happened to Cardcaptor Sakura, a way more harmless title?
Do not want. I prefer subs, anyway.
@megidola funimation didnt censor speedgrapher and mneyosme (spelling), mneyosme even had a rape scene. as long as its in dvd it aint gonna be censored.
Your still treating Adult Swim if it's still Cartoon Network. Te only thing they have in common is that CN allows Adult Swim to air on their channel.
You obviously haven't seen the Eureka Seven, Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist scripts, nor do you know that it actually having other influence on past shows (Titan Maximum, and some Robot Chicken sketches for example)
And no Adult Swim does not do the script, the company that handles it does.
Comedy central and adult swim wouldn't do it without heavy censorship, at least at a reasonable hour. If it ever aired in the U.S., I'd expect adult swim at 2-3 in the morning.(still with censoring)
It would be pointless to air it in the U.S., just have uncensored dvds.
For all the haters so far that haven't seen it: If you haven't watched the show, STFU. Don't worship anime to the point that you rage over anything different without giving it a fair chance.
thank you ghost dog. it seems a bunch of tards are hating on it just because it doesn't have the typical anime art style. dumbasses just want more k-on moeblobs.
If the show HAD the typical art style it would fade into obscurity simply based on the fact the only thing left would be the dialogue and script, which are both terrible.
Objectively speaking, anime uses a lot of digital aid in production, which greatly diverges from the original meaning of "cartoon" that implies hand-drawn art.
With that said, I hate it when people call anime "cartoons" if only because it makes it harder to difference between the two. There is already a word that covers both US-style animation and Japanese-style animation. It's called (hold your breath!) animation. There is absolutely no benefit in associating anime with the term cartoon.
More informally, most people associate cartoons with a less serious and even childish outlook compared to traditional media, which obviously doesn't apply to anime. Using the two terms interchangeably only serves to cause further confusion among people who don't watch anime.
Hate to break it to you 21:14 Anon, but the vast majority of BOTH Western and Eastern animation relies heavily on 'digital aids'. Know what people call adult/teen focused cartoons in the West? Cartoons. Because they're fricken cartoons. Do you feel the need to separate movies in to different carefully construed terms just because some are aimed a children and some aren't?
I can understand if people may be turned off by the style or the jokes, but damn.... The visuals are some of the highest fidelity in this current season of TV anime. The animation quality is truly Gainax quality. They never disappoint in that area.
I love their feet. I somehow think the Studio Gainax folks accentuated the crazy feet quite a bit as a bit of a parody/homage of Genndy Tartakovsky cartoons.
I think it works and it works well. It animates beautifully and I think they capture a very strange sensation of a Japanese studio trying to create the '2-part cartoon episode' like in Power Puff Girls. I think it's great fun.
For people not able to or refuse to appreciate good old fashioned parodies, that is too bad. I can understand their stance, but parody doesn't stand on its two ELEPHANTINE feet itself. It kind of stands to contrast between Japanese and American animation in a strange fusion. I think it is a worthy and successful animation.
Especially when I feel that in the last decade of animation, Genndy Tartakovsky has made the biggest impact in American cartoons in terms of creativity with Power Puff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack and the Clone Wars cartoon series. All amazing and successful experimentation in storytelling and visuals in cartoons.
bless you, shippoyasha. i'm tired of trying to defend this show to people who aren't even bothering to consider WHY it is the way it is (and why that makes it great).
Eh... No.
I just dont get those american style anime shit, just throw them away.
This could get interesting.......... if they ever decide to dub it.
Expect the heavy censoring my friend if this ever gets ported over to the west...
I want the animation from the transformation scene to be the default animation TT^TT
@crittercam I can easily see this airing on Comedy Central's Stash, or Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, with minimal censorship. XD
@lilmetal As long as it's not Sci-Fi's Ani-Monday. hand it to 4kids and get back an empty disc

... so don't hold your breath.

The best course: Funimation picks it up.

you can say shit and fuck here, cunt and... basically anything you fucking want.
we wont tell
Gotta love stereotype driven decision making.

sub > dub imo.. as long as the translation is (hopefully) accurate.
Why would it be censored on Cartoon Network? Adultswim, and CN are 2 lead by 2 entierly different leads.
They've gotten away with Nina's Table secks in Code Geass, and the FLCL sexual references, Adultswim could easily air it with no edits.
Yeah, Ray, but does Adult Swim ever show OP and ED properly in their shows? They don't. They always cut them out or speed them up.
Also, even at early mornings, I don't think they're allowed to show characters cussing...
Ray - they also sometimes take out sexual references/innuendo and replace the dub with a more harmless sentence. they also cut out scenes if it is too sexually explicit or very controversial. (adult swim has its limits.. they censor more then you think).

Schrobby, it's different times. Yeah, Sci-fi/Cartoon Network is no go.
But Anime Network and especially Funimation Channel tend to do very good transitions.
Funimation nowadays is the hallmark of how to properly do dubs with amazing results + not censor ANYTHING.
lets hope this anime will never get dubbed.
@Shippoyasha Funimation were going to censor their release of Vampire Bund, and as far as I'm aware they still might.
Vampire Bund is next to Kodomo no Jikan.
Considering teh fear from pedop****a in the West...
...well, I'd better be careful myself, I'll use the term "child fuck" instead.
@megidola funimation didnt censor speedgrapher and mneyosme (spelling), mneyosme even had a rape scene. as long as its in dvd it aint gonna be censored.
@megidola
At Funimation's panel during the Q&A session at Anime Expo 2010 they said the dvd's wil be 100% uncensored.
Can't wait for Strike Witches 2 on dvd next year (^_-)
"I want the animation from the transformation scene to be the default animation TT^TT"
so basically you want it to look like every other anime in existence.
Your still treating Adult Swim if it's still Cartoon Network. Te only thing they have in common is that CN allows Adult Swim to air on their channel.

Still waiting for a Eureka Seven Abridged.
--They see me trollin'
--They Hatin'
If Funimation censors Vampire Bund, then they are dead to me.
Mina Tepes is centuries fucking old. Yes, she has the body of a child and pettanko. Oh noez.
They should make it like the 1st picture
then it would just look like a regular anime. the unique (for an anime) style is one of its draws.
Go to hell, weaboo.
The art style is the ONLY draw, otherwise you're just left with a generic pile of terrible humor.
it a parody of amaricanimation , and its funny like hell itself
Thousand times better than THAT show that recently ended but SanCom can't stop talking about
anon 16:12 is it k-on?
I want Stocking's donuts! ^_^
I'd her donuts...
I'd her for some donuts.
I´d her with some donuts.
I'd her on some donuts.
I'd here eating donuts.
You better watch yourself buddy. I'm coming for you, and I'm bringing a piano with me.
Well that will be very entertaining to watch.
This is just FCLC with sex+piss+shit theme addon.
Gainax have no more imagination left!
Grow some balls, learn what your talking about, and come back here WITHOUT your viginity before you comment.
Stop fapping to cartoon women.
Its actually quite hilarious when you look past the cartoon animation
Maybe if you're 12.
Its pretty dumb humor.
I'm 26, have a PhD, and I love it.
Well, this IS the internet =/
I pity you, Anon. Eat shit first before calling it shit, you're nothing but shit if you do it the other way around.
anon, im a 28 y.o. graphic designer with master degree and i approve this series
first you need to say "hello i'm americant and i approve this"
anon 14.52: "I'm 12 years old, and what is this?"
"Hello, I'm an American and I approve this."
For all the haters so far that haven't seen it: If you haven't watched the show, STFU. Don't worship anime to the point that you rage over anything different without giving it a fair chance.

All anime has "cartoon" animation. Anime is cartoons.
Objectively speaking, anime uses a lot of digital aid in production, which greatly diverges from the original meaning of "cartoon" that implies hand-drawn art.
With that said, I hate it when people call anime "cartoons" if only because it makes it harder to difference between the two. "anime" is how they say "cartoon" in Japanese.
So yeah, get over it. Break the Berlin Wall.
...Why are all of these anon so...damned touchy? SOMEONE needs to get laid, FAST.
Why the hell is this....cartoon even here in Sankaku?
Because the accepted definition of anime is:
"animation made in japan for a Japanese audience(aired in JP)".
Instead of defining anime by style, art, plot, etc..
It wouldn't be anime if it was ranked by plot.
I can understand if people may be turned off by the style or the jokes, but damn.... The visuals are some of the highest fidelity in this current season of TV anime. The animation quality is truly Gainax quality. They never disappoint in that area.
Their feet.

Hell, most of the anon here, anon 08:53, are american wannabe otaku.
Gainax quality? So, shit, then? I don't really ever recall Gaianx ever being known for their great animation. Is this a recent thing?
Gainax is known for it's great productions. This is one of them. You don't like it? Don't watch it.
So neither Gurren Lagann (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mghOPE3_XTs) nor Diebuster (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJNq4S8uXas) are well animated?
Do us a favor and piss off, n00b. Next thing I hear Cowboy Bebop ain't the single best anime ever...
