Unfortunately for closet otaku seeking to avoid having their creepy purchases exposed to the eyes of friends, families, neighbours and postal workers (and in some particularly unfortunate cases, customs), not every online retailer is sensible enough to employ plain cardboard boxes and uninformative labels.
Japanese otaku recipients share some of the worst “delivery terror” they have struck with:

“Ona-hole + DVD set”:

“Bishoujo game (lolicon) – adult PC software”:

“…(porn included)”:

“They’re not pantsu so it’s not embarrassing! Drama CD”:

“Nanoha Tissue Box”:

“They’re not pantsu so it’s not embarrassing! Campaign”:

“Child porn”:

Strike Witches seems to be a particularly egregious offender, although the title of practically any eroge or ero-manga printed on a box is sure to spell disaster.
Fortunately, most online sellers seem to recognise the value of the brown cardboard box in preserving the recipient’s privacy.
The retailers are helping the customers gain pride and honor for their interests. Retailers are obviously thinking outside the box.
Good one... best comment of this post.
lol thinking outside the box by blatantly labeling 'CP porn inside' on the boxes. Some must be a bad joke since the they went out of the way to make sure everyone who sees the box knows you are a perv.
I see what you did there.
and I like it.
They also make people like me kill you once I find out about this.
You might as well just die yourself first. No one cares about a flame trolling anon who's got nothing better to do then to be a internet tough guy. I say it's a mental age of a 6 year old brat. Might as well just grow up and if that's too impossible for you. You are allowed to go stick yourself on a spear. Your lame ass death will be mourned by no one. Period.
Good way to fail troll. You are now allowed to fuck off from sancom and die a miserable life in a rats ass. Wish you luck and lots of pain for the years you'll spend in hell getting assraped by men devils.
While your death (and others like you) will be celebrated by normal people everywhere. HURRAAAH!
Why are these people embarrassed? They're not pantsu.
A lot of those don't even look bad. The Strike Witches one in particular looks awesome. I'd be glad to sign for such a package.
My thoughts exactly, most of these aren't bad at all..
Remember, a lot of the people receiving these still live at home with their parents.
"Remember, a lot of the people receiving these still live at home with their parents."
Remember, a lot of the people still have friends and social contacts with neighbours.
Unlike Sankaku users.
Keep in mind not all countries are that supportive of certain..."interests".
Australia for example, is engaged in a gigantic witch hunt involving CP, Hence if someone was to try and import these they'd arrive at the persons house...
...But delivered by the police... =P
It's a good thing my mother respects my privacy and never questions what I buy ever since I was in Junior High...
I am very grateful for having a parent like her...

Yeah, most of these don't look bad at all... in Japan. Over here in the USSA, some of those pics on the boxes or labels can set off moralfaeggotry alarms in customs, which is far worse than your neighbors and family finding out.
the ones with just pictures aren't so bad (except for the one clearly taken from a hentai), but the descriptions are all pretty damning... who wouldn't be embarrassed to receive a package with "ONA-HOLE" or "CHILD PORN" or anything mentioning "pantsu" emblazoned on it? it's not that difficult for retailers to ship packages in plain boxes with generic descriptions like "PC game" on it.
Lol @ the last pic. Imagine parents or someone close to you catching you with a delivery box that says "Contents: CHILD PORN" on it!!! XD
@11:44
Laugh at you and ostracize you from society. Hope you like living in that basement. You're going to be there a while.
They're embarrassed?
I thought they had no shame from the start..
Aslong as you're the one to receive the mail..you can hide it
Did you see the size of the Strike Witches package? How are you supposed to hide that?
So what if they live with their parents? Especially if its bought with one's own money, there's no reason for anyone to complain about it. What're they gonna do, laugh at you for liking something? That's just stupid.
Not to mention alot of those titles are well known amongst the Otaku fandom in japan and those who are closet otaku's don't want to be seen with those items less their reputation be shattered... anyone remember the anime Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu?
yeah japanese people though have pride,And their type of pride would actually make this a problem.
Imagine almost the level of coming out to conservative parents.
Sometimes more.
They should have a new company called "Box"
For +$5, we'll make sure your package is wrapped in cardboard.

Believe me, if you think creatively enough, you can hide anything. ;D
And I thought STRIKE WITCHES are family watch, and approved by government?
Isn't that why they want it delivered?
To avoid the hassle and remain anonymous without the glares and looks the cashier might give them? And they'd use up their energy for other things besides exercise...lol
Lol,that's acting like a 11-13 year-old buying a condom for the 1st time while being looked at with intensity. Man, screw what others think,if it's their way of life then flaunt it no matter how much society looks down on them.Be a man(woman in some cases) and show the world!(Lol,I feel like I'm encouraging streakers and exhibitionists with that line...)And yeah, they always end up using their energy and stamina for those things,hobby-wise related.
Well receiving that on your door step is way better than getting a bomb disguised as a package anytime. Anyway if they feel shy about being seen with their package on hand then they should just go out and buy the stuff if it's being sold within their area, they deserve to get some sun and exercise from time to time.
I totally want that Strike Witches box! ^_^
I just don´t care what my neighbours think may it figures, galges, sex toys or what ever. As long as i receive it i´m happy.
your fat bald neighbour may want to join in your fun and do a threesome on that onahole..
^OMG Party!
^This
same here, looks so awesome i'd keep it.
why should i give a fuck if someone knows i watch anime?
people stigmatizing others because of a hobby they don't have themselvs are the idiots.
same goes for porn
"oh my, a guy watches porn, WHAT A SHOCK"
grown up
hahahah awesome so they can feel ashamed of their wierd behaviour, if a girl or dude ordered a dildo i will send it to them ON, so the box will be shaking for extra humilliation.
Lol epic pwned. XDDD
I wouldnt worry to recieve any of those deliveries.
I do what i want with my life, it isnt anyone else business thank you.
Yeah, well, not everyone thinks the same.
I think the same way as you do, but not everyone does. (And if everyone thought the same, the world would be a boring place anyway.)
and the femnazis.
"please think of the children! one child is raep each time you sign a package!"
If that actually happened there would be loli service everywhere by now...
You have society to thank for that.
Sorry but Big Brother is watching you to kill you!
No, onii-chan is watching his imouto. ^_^
It's not so much about the looks of the package as it is about the fact that other people know that you recieved it in the first place. Some people find it shameful, and not since everyone deals with shame all that well...
Yeah, you can see the problem now.
Some of those are hillarious, especially the "child porn" one. I bet they did it for the lulz.
I agree. No matter which country you're in there are people (usually family members) who WILL treat you differently if you're an otaku. People seem to forget that even the lowest of otaku still carry the trademark pride of Japanese culture. If you want respect ANYWHERE, it is save not to mention that you spend your free time watching animated shows of young girls fighting each other with lasers and what not/MANLY men fighting each other with over-the-top robots/a guy humiliatinhg himself by licking various portions of his girlfriend's body etc.
Except for the boxes that explicitly state the contents of your box(porn, doujinshi, etc), I don't necessarily see how something like "Strike Witches" could be considered "creepy" or "embarrassing."
You know something more annoying than otaku pretending they're anime characters or Japanese; People who feel "ashamed" or "too embarrassed" with their hobbies.
You've gotta have your pride as an otaku. If you let others choose or dictate your hobbies or your life, you are not a genuine otaku at all. You have no life. You're only living the life of what others see fit.
Come on people, be proud of what ya like.
They’re not pantsu so it’s not embarrassing!
That doesn't apply just to otaku, y'know.
Yeah looks nice, but usually the brown cardboard box and misc packaging material as well as protecting your privacy protects the contents from mishandling. Even if I wasn't ashamed from receiving such things from the postman, I wouldn't like it if they arrived damaged.
Lol idk it looked like customs opened the box took a poster that was inside then wrapped the box with it.
You're all forgetting that much of mainstream Japanese society tends to be very conformist. So for your average Japanese guy, getting a package like this, especially if your neighbors see it, is a social death sentence.
Social death sentence have no effects if the person is a hikikomori.
Some people would like to keep at least a facade of normalcy so they can function in their daily lives. Not all hikikomori.
@ Anon 20:27:
After receiving a package like one of these, a relatively normal person _becomes_ hikikomori due to embarrassment!
I would knife you to find out you like this shit if I knew you! Shit head!
