I still fail to see the appeal of ecchi manga when there's hentai and other types of porn. If you wabba draw some erotic content then just make a fucking hentai so that people can atleast get SOME enjoyment out of it.

I sometimes disagree with it. Purely because with ecchi, there "sometimes" is a story line but with hentai, there isn't much of a story("for most").It's usually just pure sex or erotic stuff. The problem I have with it is that you just don't feel the character. Like Most hentai I've read so far are just random .People somehow meeting for a short while and then just making love. Or there's always a situation where the're people who know each other and fall in love but we usually don't see that development. While with some Ecchi (not all), you see some development in characters and understand them so you actually feel that the romance is more appropriate. That's just my opinion.
There's also the fact that some artists don't want to go the the extreme with the relationships seen in hentai.
The "story" argument does not work since the stories in ecchi manga have essentially the same purpose as in a hentai manga. The only exception is that in a ecchi manga they only show nipples and asses that just the 13-year olds jack off to. And they also stretch out the same contrived story for several chapters or even volumes while most hentais just go for a oneshot or one volume at most.
btw, all torture, mind break and rape (or all combined) doujins of To-Love Ru are an absolute delight to read.
The stories of most ecchi series are very derivative, but there are exceptions that have interesting or original stories and characters, for example Sora no Otoshimono.
Blah. Hardcore makes it boring. Ecchi leaves it to your midn and is a tease. I'd rather be teased.
Well, you may assume it's like between watching American Pie and some typical Porn video. Both have sexual elements except the former one doesn't really show the whole stuff.. yet still miles more superior (imo).
