Atelier Rorona‘s English language version has been subjected to a delolification campaign, with the English version’s loli cast getting a mysterious 3-year age boost into nearly legal territory.
Japanese fans spotted the changes, from 14 to 17 and 13 to 16 in the most noticeable instances:
Non-loli (that is to say, male) characters’ ages are unchanged.
As Rorona covers some mature themes, an overreaction from puritanical western publishers seems to be at fault – the same marketing geniuses who struck Rorona from the cover of her own game.
Just how they will handle the even younger – and indisputably young-looking – characters of Atelier Totori may be more problematic.
The game itself has been well received internationally and is otherwise apparently unchanged (and thanks to the miracle of Blu-ray it includes Japanese voicing) – it is generally available now.
I’ll say this, you know the truth, ignore whatever edits the US/aussies make as long as those edits are just info, if they remove l♥♥i scenes then bitch to the heavens!
It’s not pedophile when I fake her ID. Right?
NISA is sinking lower and lower. They need to grow a set and stop succumbing to pressure from conservatives and needless ethics that don’t apply.
This is one of the worst form of censorship, one that is so unnecessary. The script better not had been changed because of this. But even if it wasn’t, just knowing that this kind of thing had to be done to make them older than they really are in order to please the soccer moms and s♥♥t is purely infuriating.
As a general purist, this only adds on more rage. Any kind of alterations/changes from the original source/material/script when it comes to localization/translations only instill me with hate and depression.
It’s not that they WANT to, it’s more like they HAVE to, otherwise they get bombed by angry parents and s♥♥t.
NISA, always where the LOL’s at. At first they were famous for very loose and overall bad translations with senseless name-changes on top. Now you can add to that the ever present underage fear mongering.
Seriously, virtually every RPG could be “problematic” if certain people want to phantasize about problems that just aren’t there.
I don’t like NISA for good reasons. And they keep piling up, evidently.
You can deny the truth but you will never forget.
