Sega has announced that Valkyria Chronicles will be another PSP title, dashing fan hopes for a proper sequel and officially signalling the end of the franchise’s presence on the PS3.
The game’s Japanese release date has been set at January 27th.

Why is it on the PSP?
There are 3 titles in the series and 2 are on the PSP. We wanted to mature the series whilst incorporating new elements. Of course, we realise there are users who want it on the PS3. But it has been over 2 years since the original, and we can’t just tweak the game a bit for the PS3 – we think new ideas are required. But we couldn’t call a game like that part of the same series.
Sega’s inimitable genius strikes again – this time with some contorted excuses for covering up their decision to make the next title a budget rehash of the second game, whilst every other developer is busily churning out identical sequels on the PS3.
I read this long ago. Basically, they are too lazy to make another one and add anything major, but a psp game with a small update is lucrative so they are sticking to them. If they just add air ships and expand the world a bit, they can easily add it to PS3 again. Sega and their idiotic staff making “brilliant” decisions again… *sigh* After they killed the DC, it’s been downhill at that company. They should stick to piss games at toilets. They seem to love driving all their best work down the drain. Shenmue, Sonic, Valkyria Chonicles…

I can care less about the ipod seeing how I own the PS3 and PSP…do you assume every westerner has a ipod? LOL! I dont know any gamer that has one here, so maybe you should chill. I bet Im more Japanese that you are. LOL!
PSP will be executed by Nintendo 3DS which is a japanese console and loved by westerners. it’s due release the trigger will be pulled.

Translation:
“Our bosses at Sega-Sammy are unwilling to invest in Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3. They will not greenlight a PS3 VC unless we come up with “new ideas” that convince them otherwise.”
Sega are not the same company they were, they have lost most of their in-house talent, as most of their teams were broken up and key staff left after the Sammy takeover. Sega now invest most of their money in external developers like Platinum Games and Creative Assembly (who apparently have the largest budget). The only internal developer they allow any freedom is Nagoshi.
VC1’s poor sales would make Sega extremely hostile to another PS3 game, given the much greater cost. They don’t trust their internal developers and treat them like crap.
The developer probably wants to make a new PS3 Valkyria (why make the CANVAS engine otherwise?) but Sega won’t allow it so it s a case of no VC or PSP VC.
Rieko Kodama wanted to make a sequel to Skies of Arcadia, the reason there has not been a SoA2 is because Sega consider the original a failure.
