How stupid can the police be? How can they even post a warning on something that not only doesn't exist in the first place and isn't real, but also a harmless mascot that is just 4chan's mascot for real pedophiles?

I lived in San Luis Obispo for 9 years, and this screams to me as a joke. The city is home to Cal Poly, a California State school. College pranksters abound, and our graphic arts and journalism departments have been pumping out stuff like this for years. Recently they published a fake set of quotes regarding the Mustang Daily, a local newspaper. The quotes were such as, Mustang Daily, "Runs the most prolific Meth lab on the Central Coast," "Instills fear in the heart of many," Doesn't run photos if the subjects are too ugly," and 6 more. I smell me a joke.

The thing about this I found the most interesting was that the police quoted the only definition in dictionary.com that uses the term "perversion". It's certainly a "perversion" in the classical psychological sense, but in common usage that's a very loaded word. I prefer it to be called a "paraphilia", which sounds much more cuddly.

An officer of the law cannot freely choose to make his presence known, by creating a scene. Their job is to protect the citizens, unless a complaint is brought to them, they are to STFU. Otherwise it becomes a 'police state'.

That said, pedophiles do not go around dressed as bears. That would make a spectacle of them, the opposite of what they want. And they meet children online, at arcades and playgrounds. Not at a convention, with a half-million attendees.

Recently FOX23 in Oklahoma "borrowed" this story and turned it into a fear mongering piece.
