Square Enix: FF14 Fatigue System “Fabrication”

Reports that Final Fantasy XIV includes a “fatigue” system which involves limits on how long players can effectively play have been dismissed by Square Enix as “fabrication,” despite the fact Square Enix already admitted adding such a system.
Hiromichi Tanaka, Final Fantasy XIV’s producer, dismissed claims about the hugely controversial fatigue system as mere “fabrication” on Twitter:
Overseas sites are full of falsehoods. They just put words together and fabricate statements. Japanese sites then mistranslate these. That fatigue system isn’t in and was just something they made up.
However, he was recently interviewed by no less than Famitsu, along with production director Nobuaki Komoto, who freely admitted the existence of the “fatigue” system for penalising heavy players – the only matter in question is what form the system takes, which Square Enix has refused to reveal, causing endless speculation by beta testers as to how the system works.
The supposed “1 hour per day” limit, based on comments originating from 2ch, was in fact first covered by several of the most popular Japanese gaming blogs and a number of other hugely popular Japanese sites – hardly a “fabrication by overseas sites,” and as it originated in Japanese it can hardly be called a mistranslation either.
Meanwhile Japanese players continue to insist the fatigue system does reduce XP gains to 0 after heavy play, some dismissing Tanaka’s comments as “desperation.”
Square Enix could easily dispel consternation about the system by revealing how it works in detail – assuming of course it is not as draconian as some beta testers have already complained.

Sure hope theres no fatigue system. Who knows how many accounts a person might get if there is one.
Agreed. Though I'm pretty sure they'd get rid of it :/
Fatigue system? The only thing it does is suck.
Well if they remove the system before game is released, I guess they could say that everyone was lying...
Might also be that the system only applies to asian countries (Japan, China, Korea)
Mabinogi have a... miniature version of Fatique system. Though, it only applied on field hunting, and can be quickly ridden off by moving to a new area.
I got a fatigue system too.
I'm tired of Squeenix making shitty games.
And shitty lies.
Square Enix: How could the white devils tell such blatant lies about there being only one hour game time per day allowed when in truth we give gamers a generous 8 hours per week?
C'mon Square Enix, I know you can come up with something better than the "fatigue" system.
Even WoW has a fatique-system, and no one minds... Ofc it's not penalizing playing but rewarding not-playing... ~~
If you're talking about Rested EXP then that is no way like this.
(Rested EXP sucks too)
How does it suck? the gain is minimal (100% exp bonus for only creature kills (which if questing should make up 40% of your total exp gain)and only up to a certain amount of exp)and is mainly to give players who dont play very often a fighting chance against people who play 12 hours a day. Also a 'rested' system is fundamentally better because its a reward for playing the game, rather than a 'fatigue' system which gives you penalties if you play the game. Last time i checked, you dont get people to do something if you penalise them for doing it. least of all if that something is a game.
@DFC
It kinda won't matter how many accounts one makes since all their characters will be affected...
Man, that really sucks having to make so many characters and get the same thing...And that 0 XP gain is just salt on the wounds...
*stares at the topic picture*
You have very good tastes, Artifact...
Those are some delishush Mithra armpits...

Wow. So it's becoming an even more popular trend over there to blame -self made- problems on foreigners eh?
That isn't the "actual quote," this is:
海外サイトはデマが多い。単語組み合わせて、発言を捏造。それをさらに異訳する日本サイト。疲労度云々は完全に原型とどめてないし勝手な妄想も追加されとる。
How is what we posted "complete mistranslation" of the above?
Good job proving Tanaka right by introducing new fabrications. You really, really think that someone would directly contradict on their twitter what they said earlier in a public interview?
Do you think your ability to copy/paste Japanese characters is that impressive? Did you actually have anyone semi-fluent in Japanese translate the text?
The translation cited by anon is by someone who lives in Japan and judging by the frequency that they do translation and their apparent ease at it is fluent. (Elmer the Pointy -- http://www.jpbutton.org [www.jpbutton.org]) I'd trust his over the random internet gossip version of things you guys seem to churn out.
Christ. Can't these Japanese reps talk about these reports instead of jumping the gun and accusing foreign rumors as being false? It's partly their fault for not being clear enough.
What is up with the overtly defensive stance? It only makes them seem way more guilty than if they were more friendly and open about this.
LOL at Square Enix reps accusing foreigners and being super defensive which only makes them look more guilty.
What the heck is up with Japanese reps and being so openly xenophobic and confrontational? They need to learn a thing or two about correct ways to do public relations. Because this is just making everyone hate them more.
Because companies like Bioware and Bethesda are totally correct in their attack ads/ statements right?
it works like this for squarenix shitty lately:
the less hours you play a day
the more days you play and of course pay
BUT reality states as for MMORPGs:
the more hours you play the more you want it
the more you want it the more you are willing to pay
they need to just make up there minds.
Fabrication?!
So why are actual beta testers discussing it in their forums? And not just in theory...
Just one example:
http://www.ffxivcore.com/topic/11506-a-few-questions-on-surplus/
So they are all liars, eh?
...
I'm really getting sick of this debacle. Fabrication as in the system was not properly described.
It's like people would rather see the game fail.
Time will tell, no need to rage over this just yet.
I think the fact he tried to blame a party that had nothing to do with this is fairly rage worthy...
I had no intention on starting an MMORPG ever since that puff-killing drag that was Ragnarok. Will probably continue to feel that way.
As such, there should be no need for me to say anything about this, but I'mma say it regardless because I fucking can:
KOMOTO, U MAD?
well, think of it this way...
they just do not want you to power level-up at early stage...
sooner or later, once you reach max level, the penalty have no effect whatsoever...
or it could also mean they do not want you to reach the end of the game dungeon/story, which can delay their next expansion significantly...
but still...a bad call
Either they're just trying to avoid the MMORPG lawsuit, or they're trying to avoid creating another generation of NEETs.
The whole exp to 0 thing might be fake but I could see them using a wow type system where you get full/bonus exp stored up for the amount of time you have been logged out.
Think of it as no rested bonus exp = no exp gain.
FF11 players know what's up. SE will deliver the product with that player-base in mind. Children with short attention spans can stick to WoW and leave the complaining to online boards like this one.
No one outside of easily manipulated console gaming masses bought into this crap rumor. Don't like it? Don't play it. The player-base is already there. You won't be missed.
Going back to read all articles now in 2013 with Square Enix going down in flames and having seen how this rumor was true, the system a horrible failure and FF14 an even worse one.
Man, you must feel like a gigantic idiot! No really, you took the cake in the post 2010 era.
Whether or not this fatigue system exists. They should make it so that the longer you've been logged off, the higher exp bonus rate you get. It works the same for curbing MMO addicts but masks it as an incentive :P
well since a certin person here can't seem to report any thing correctly. what was said is.
""Foreign sites have lots of false rumors. They throw together words and fabricate remarks. Then Japanese sites take this and further [falsify it through] mistranslation. The fatigue point criticism has absolutely nothing to do with the actual [system] and is just full of wild ideas.""
Am I the only one who gets this? You can play the game as much as you want, you just can't gain experience after more than an hour. If the game is, y'know, FUN, then that shouldn't be a problem, should it?
To prevent leveling is to remove one of the core gameplay elements.
Context perspective:
You can play Monopoly as much as you want, but after one hour, you will no longer be able to earn any money when enemy players step on your property. If the game is y'know, FUN, then that shouldn't be a problem shouldn't it?
more like in most MMOs the real game starts where the levelcap begins. Even without any penalties, it takes a long time to reach max level in, for example, World of Warcraft; which i add is the main problem MMO-haters have these kinds of games as they find it takes too long for the game to become fun. Considering these points, and assuming FF14 will run off the same princibles as other MMOs, the fatigue system is shit
Sad.. just sad.. I definitely do not want to play this already.
I'll just stick with FF XIII Versus.
Dude, why are you complaining after it is stated that there will be no fatigue system anymore?
The producers themselves cannot be lying.
Why? because they game is going to be released one day,of course.
They can't just blatantly lie if the game is going to be released to the public.
Aww you don't wanna plat it?
Cool story bro.
There's a simple answer to the "Fatigue" system being added...
Since it will be a fee-based MMORPG, the little the user gets to play, the longer he/she will be "forced" to continue paying for the service in order to continue.
Think WoW EXP farming time multiplied by 100 and you'll get the idea of how much money SE wants to bag...
Bad move Hans... Err... SquareE...
Just yesterday this stupid website was reporting the system as fact. Now the idiot who wrote the artcile is trying to cover his tracks. Poor journalism.
You totally missed the point of this article. Read them again and hopefully you'll come to the correct conclusion.
Just when a fatigue system is need to force idiots to moderate how much they play, it turns out there is nothing as drastic as was speculated. SE I'am disappoint.
Yeah yeah, just blame it on the foreigners...
Just make it an optional choice. That way specific people can play when ever they want.
"We've got this great new system! It's called a fatigue system. With it you... oh, you guys don't like that idea? W-well... it was, uh, the foreign devil's lies! Yeah! They lie all the time! It was them!"
for anything ffxiv related people shouldnt trust this website... eorzeapedia is a much more reliable source of information
Way to jump onto the 'hate foreigners' bandwagon, even though they're going to consist of Square's player-base soon enough.
Square wtf Enix
And, yet again, Japan blames everything on the foreigners.
Is it so easy in .jp to just blame the gaijins and expect everyone to believe?
