Not content to be slowly tortured to death for the amusement of the crowd, an enraged bull leapt out of the arena and began attacking the crowd in something of an upset, the entire grisly event being captured on film.
For once it was the audience and not the bull which suffered – 40 people, including children, were reported injured after the bull turned its rage upon them at a bullring in northern Spain, its bloodstained horns glistening in the sun.
The bull was later subdued, removed from the ring and killed.
Earlier in the year another bull turned the tables on its tormentors and gored a matador’s face into pulp – most bullfighting events are however carefully managed to ensure the odds are overwhelmingly stacked against the bull, with efforts taken to ensure no bull ever gets the chance to accumulate the experience needed to pose a threat to matadors in a second bout.
Even in backwards Spain the sport is increasingly coming under criticism – Spain’s northern province of Catalonia recently moved to ban the spectacle, the first major Spanish region to do so.

the crowd got really excited when the bull leapt into it... I think most of them were cheering louder than they were screaming for mercy.

I don't think this bull had any intention to die. Besides the crowd weren't just innocent passersby, they had all gathered to entertain themselves with his suffering.

The shining example... or shall I say a truly dark example of human torture for other species. To zoos to circuses to bull/animal-fighting of any type, it's truly a sad act.
I honestly can't side with any spectator who gets killed over this. It just stinks of karma.
Sometimes zoo have protected species who would die if not for their captivity, and there's no torture/killing involved so they're are at least not completly useless
Circus may not offer much to beasts, but I know circus-peoples love their animals and certainly wouldn't kill them at the slightest mistake.
Animal fighting is terrible, but at least they get pitted against their own species and get a chance to win
Corrida is just the public torture of a bull who get killed right after. It make me think of gladiators in Rome.
Well, the reason why Zoos are bad in my view is that we're still capturing them and using them for human entertainment. I agree. Most Zoos takes great care of animals, but some animals still can't get acclimated to captivity. But yeah, it's better than letting them be poached. But in an ideal world, we wouldn't be needing to put them in zoos for them to survive.
As for circuses, I disagree. Some circuses do takes care of animals, but many including the largest circuses in America to Europe to Asia all heinously torture animals to do tricks. Though I typically hate PETA, I'm actually with them on this in regard to circus animals.
As for animal fighting, I don't care what kind of fighting it is. It's not about 'having a chance to win'. It shouldn't be happening period, outside their natural environment. It's just not right to force animals to fight and kill for our personal amusement in my view. Even if it's for farming/meat purposes, the humane thing to do is to not let them go through such torture while living. It's just not right.

Catalonia, much like northern Italy are culturally separate from the rest of the country. The ban was mainly meant as a way to further distinguish Catalonia from the rest of Spain. Also Catalonia is more of an eastern province than northern.
It's an art, as much as dr. Hannibal Lecter considers killing and eating his victims as art..
they also didn't mension that there hadn't been a bullfight in Catalonia in over 100 years
I do also agree with you man, I can understand animals being harvested for their meat,but this is utter sadism and cruelty. The sport is like the modern day equivalent of Ancient Rome's Gladiatorial Combat,with the bulls as substitute for humans.
The bull's chances of winning was close to zero, he's one tough bull if you ask me fighting against the odds. I dunno whom to feel sympathetic for, the poor bull or the poor children that got hurt...,as for the adults I'm not so sure especially if they revel and enjoy this sort of blood sport.IMO, if these blood-lusting fans really want to see raw carnage I'd say either make the odds even for the bull or replace it with a Siberian Tiger instead but I think they won't so rather than continue this tradition,I agree with you man,it should be banned.Some traditions are better left omitted and abandoned for the sake of the future....

I actually agree with you. I find it ironic this site sides without a second thought with the Japanese when it comes to whaling. But calls Spain "backwards" for practicing bullfighting.
On the other hand, I think Spain should start enforcing a few safety measurements, like capping or removing the horns entirely, and making sure the fences are actually strong enough to stop a bull from going into the crowd like this. THAT's the retarded part about this whole thing IMO.

According to research about bullfighting, some so-called bullfighters and their managers and even the arena organizers weaken the bull prior to the events leading to their one-on-one fight to the death...
They don't feed it for days and inject drugs that weaken it's muscles and make it groggy...Thus ensuing a very easy kill and a guarantee that the bullfighter lives and wins and the bull dies...
Now that's not a very fair gladiator match between man and beast...

It certenly didn't attack the wrong people, all the spectators support it and if it weren't for them there wouldn't be any idea to have the sport after all.
