Pirates Rejoice as PS3 “Hacked & Running Copies”

psjailbreak.jpg

Videos purporting to show a working PS3 hack have surfaced, though their veracity is currently the subject of heated debate.

The videos:

The supposed specs of the device, which takes the form of a simple USB drive:

PS Jailbreak is a USB plug and play solution that installs in seconds, keeping your valid warranty seal in tact.

Easy to use installer and GUI takes you step by step.

Compatible with all production models FAT and SLIM. Supports all regions: USA, JAP, PAL and KOREA

PS Jailbreak disables forced software updates and will never brick your console.

Supports all games (it does not allow backups of bluray movies , dvd movies , or past consoles games)

Backup games to your internal hard drive or external hard drive through USB, and boot directly off GUI. Eliminating the need for expensive blueray burners and costly blank media.

Play backups off your hard drives 2x as fast as off the blueray drive. This eliminates lags and glitches to provide you with smoother game play.

Open up your console to a new generation of homebrew applications. Load homebrew apps/games off any USB hard drive/flash drive.

Fully updatable with new features/updates by connecting PS Jailbreak to any computers USB port.

Just whether the device works or is actually a scam is not yet clear – all the purported evidence comes from a small group of pirates, nobody seems to have heard of the device prior to its sudden unveiling, and apparently scam sites pretending to sell the device have already sprung up.

This just screams scam, but i guess we'll see in a few days when people uncover the truth.

Should those USB sticks exist the company producing them will earn a fortune.

    In other news:

Sony will be releasing the patch that will disable the use of USB ports.

Users can choose not to update freely but they will not be able to connect to PSN

    thank you for your support.

u seriously need a big ass hard drive for games so i think its fake (unless he bought another hard drive, but the broken tv says otherwise). It would be actually slower to run off a external usb lol.

    in for some controversy?

SONY are the actual ones who supported this PSJailbreak.. think about it.. the PS3 is reaching the end of the cash cow stage of the product, the cost of producing the PS3 has reduced to a level where the is a profit margin for every one sold.

SONY will now rely on the sales of (many)extra PS3s and also the hardwares (esp. the new remote thingy)

As for games, i predict they'll prevent ppl playing online sooner or later when using the USB where ppl will have to PURCHASE games if they want to play online..

(edit) and not to mention, instead of fighting the XBOX slim with another price drop or coming out with an ULTRA slim PS3, this will be another tool to defend their market share in the console catergory..

Springboard.app files, pwn files and I recall seeing something that was installing that said apple... I'm pretty sure that that is an ipod being jailbreaked and not a ps3...

Besides who starts a video with a scan of a file?

I'm sad to find out that it is a scam =<

to everyone saying this is a scam outright.

there is a way through usb to emulate a bluray disc. i think this is just a bit more sophisticated version of that. i doubt its real, but i just want to point this out.

the reason the never said anything? or publicly announced HOLY SHIT LOOK WHAT WE DID was because they want to corner the market, at least for a bit.

and if no one believes me, here look up multiavchd, this video looks like its the same concept behind that.

Well, this just sounds too good to be true - a fully updateable, external hard drive supporting, easy to use 'back-up' system? No, no, no; I won't believe it till I get my hands on it first somehow.

    disabling software is one thing.

They will not disable the USB ports, if this thing is real, they will most likely clandestinely get one, then release a patch that negates the software on the stick. removing the ports access means that none of the peripherals will work.

"Unhackable"... There is no such a think as an unbreakable system. Every software can be hacked, and every security system can be circumvented. You just need to find a way to crack it right.

Raise as many defenses as you can, piracy will eventually prevail.

Nothing is unhackable! The only question that lies in the end is...is it worth hacking?

According to the article, you don't need a Blu-ray burner. Just rent the game and make the backup in an external HDD.
Well, you do need one for those games which contain archives over 4Gb. I really hope those are not many >.<
