The Mario one could be made of full boxes without using glue because it has the white boxes supporting his arm. The Donkey Kong one is probably made of empty ones glued together.
Wood holding them up maybe? Once you stack the cans you can have the boards sticking out a little on the sides and bring them out to the desired length and the weight of the vertical cans will balance it? Just a guess
