Fans Weep as Atlus Announces First PS3/360 Persona Title

Atlus has announced the team behind the Persona series will be creating the first HD instalment of the series on both PS3 and Xbox 360 – but as always with Atlus, there is a catch…
The catch in this case is that Catherine is not an RPG, and it is most certainly not the long awaited Persona 5 – it is described instead as a horror-themed “action adventure.”
The developers explain that they are preparing for a future HD Persona title by developing Catherine first (now said to be 80% done), a wise strategy were it not so pathetically belated.
More promisingly, the developers are keen to emphasise that this is an “adult” title which has plenty of erotic elements – backwards Japanese attitudes to sexual content in mainstream games probably preclude anything more risqué than that already seen in previous instalments however.
The story revolves around protagonist 32-year-old Vincent (Koichi Yamadera) and 22-year-old heroine Catherine (Miyuki Sawashiro) as they unravel the secret of the “nightmare,” where all the action takes place – much as in the previous games.

Persona fans can be forgiven for wondering at the continuing refusal of Atlus to place this flagship RPG on a modern platform – the PS3 is not getting any younger, and if they approach a simple PS3/360 title with this much trepidation, just what they will do when the next generation comes around is a matter of some doubt.

I was hoping Persona 5 was coming in first, but this still looks interesting.
Also, good to hear they aren't abandoning millions of fans by not catering to either 360 or PS3.
I assume this means they have a US version (aka Xbox 360 version) already planned...

Love the way Atlus twists your realm of normality, only to dump a load of adventure and more mindfcuk on your lap as you progress through a confusing storyline.

I don't think that at this rate of cost/price/development time increase vs shrinking amount of games actually being able to pull it off there will ever be a next generation.
Instead, the game industry already moves away from CG effects race to another directions.

Appreciation for your comment(as I do agree with it) aside, Atlus is one of the few game developers that still keeps its original artwork/character design during the localizing process, and on occasion, even includes original artwork that Japan didn't get (supposedly).
Actually, I wouldn't assume there will be a US release. Depending on how erotic the game ends up being, Atlus may face stiff opposition trying to get this game overseas.

Well, Atlus is known by their fans for taking into account the Japanese source material. I'll be buying this if it comes in my side of the pond.

Some of their other titles are already pretty risque. There simply isn't much room to expand without attracting censorship and media scrutiny.
I guess we'll find out soon enough...

Atlus focus on gameplat NOT graphics so they don't need blueray at all, so ps3 and 360 is pretty much the best choice, hell i love them

persona is a "lightier" spinoff compared with the origina "shin megami tensei" series...
making an ero-persona won't make it more "mature" plot-wise, will just add some fanservice to the mix...
those who played SMT3: Nocturne will understand that adult themes may mean a deeper plot and philosophical implications in each choice you make.
Saying Persona nowadays is a 'spinoff' is like saying Devil May Cry is still a 'spinoff' of Resident Evil.
And what's wrong with sexiness? I don't see why there's a need to be worried. The writing staff are all there. It can be as mature as they want it to be in both thematic and visuals.

don't know if this will happen but i hope when they do make persona 5 they put i on 360 even if it is a "beta" i love persona =D
But what about storage? You'll either get a degraded version, multiple disks or nothing at all.
I'd personally prefer if Atlus kept Persona a PlayStation exclusive, this isn't the fan-boy coming out in me, just an enthusiast for consistancy... And a little bit of fan-boy...

I really don't get what's so bad about multiple discs. Back in the day, Final Fantasy VIII had four freaking discs and no one thought it was a bad thing...

Although FFVIII is some of the RPGs I've played with really short playing time(16 hours with all quests done except the one with chocobo that needed an external device), back in 1999, NO ONE COMPLAINED. Instead, my friends were all like, "One disc more than FFVII!? This is going to be great!".
Of course, we all know how that turned out though.
Some games shouldn't have multiple discs(Fear Effect also had 4 discs, but each lasts only half an hour), but they should be OK with RPGs since every disc would last over 4 hours minimum.
Or are the whiners a new generation of gamers that rose after mine...? A new generation of gamers so pampered with technology that they can't even get up their ass to change discs even only for every 4 hours of gameplay?

Vincent was in P3P but there's been no official statement that it takes place in the Persona universe yet.
This also is not Persona 5. That's coming after this game.

they need to support current generation...i don't mind PS2 but why develop a game for a old console if new one is available? it's not like it's mandatory to use full potential of PS3 (just like Trinity Universe have pretty much ps2 graphics). i will buy P5 even if graphics are dated but only on PS3. let PS2 rest in pace already.
