3DS = $300

Nintendo’s upcoming 3DS console appears likely to have a $300 price point.

3ds-price.jpg

Early listings of the handheld in the UK list the price as £199.99, which is roughly $300 or ¥25,000 in real money – a price which corresponds with analyst predictions and the general suspicion that nobody would pay any more for it.

The official announcement of release dates and pricing is expected in September at a Nintendo conference.

Just a speculation price. Not nintendo's price. Most likely won't be 300 smackers... after all... it's nintendo.

More like "most probably wouldn't pay that much for it." Well, it'll get cheaper later...

It depends. In the US it will not sell well, and Konami might be charged for child porn. >:( Look at the games for the DS. They have a high number of games for little kids.

@The dude up there that would pay 500$ for a real 3D screen: I would as well, assuming that 3D screen is on a huge TV. But for a 3DS, it might be a bit much. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would pay 500$ for a new 3D TV.

On a side note, if the 3DS is as powerfull as they say, then it's clearly worth the money.

Hmmm I don't see what everyone is making a fuss about personally... If I wanted to go to a store around where I live and pick up a PSP that thing is still fucking $300. $300 for a superior system doesn't sound that bad to me. ^_^

All they need to do is have Love Plus 3DS as a launch title, and they can put at any price and people will buy it.

    Games for the DS...

How much of that is shovelware?

How much of them are even games one would enjoy playing on the 40 minute train ride to and from school?

I'm just saying that prices in "digits" keeps raising. But I believe the value would remain the same.

Oh what the heck. It's almost the same as a home console price. Doesn't seem too big for me, cincidering what that thing is equipped with.

Even if it's more, the price will probably go down in the first 6 months anyway. Nintendo will have to price the 3DS competitively to compete with all the new games coming to the 360 and PS3.

Nintendo fan-boys will pay, so the question is.... Will other console owners pay $300(plus games) when they can buy tons of new games for the same amount of money?

Price will probably be a bit lower by then.

You realize that owning stolen property is a crime in itself right? Also: Before you go "Yeah, well I can just say I didn't know!" Go ahead and look up willful blindness.

It's the same legal term that describes exactly why you can't be a drug mule and just go "Well, the guy only asked me to carry it, I didn't know it was full of Cocaine..." You SHOULD have known where it came from. Just saying you didn't doesn't cut it.

Just like saying you didn't know the nigger with 15 of them, with no packages peddling out of the back of a van at 66% off retail price didn't steal them isn't going to cut it.

Just wait till more good games come out for it and then there will be a new 3DS model so you can either buy the old 3DS for cheaper or buy a new better 3DS.

To complete my post above: even with the price raise everytime, the DS has sold over 30.5M units in Japan alone, making it the most successful console over there. And it might as well make it to 32M by xmas.

    Comment by Anonymous
    06:24 18/08/2010 # ! Neutral (0)

If the 3DS is somewhat as successful as the DS, there won't be a price reduction until a new 3DS model comes out (i.e Lite or w/e).

So if you really want a 3DS it'd be better to go for it at release, or pay a premium price for a next model which might have the same price or even a little higher price.

For reference in Japan the DS went up in price everytime a new model came out: DS < DSL < DSi < DSi XL

No. You barely hear of PS3s malfunctioning, get your facts straight.

+if 360 was to be more like it's predecessor, noone would play it today. Original Xbox failed and it was the least attractive console if you considered the library of games.

That was before the 25-30 percent defect rates became apparent for the Xbox 360 and PS3, and when everyone KNEW that the Wii would be magnet for gimmicky shovelware bullshit, but it was assumed that the 360 and PS3 would be more like their predecessors.

to be honest the wii isnt made for hardcore gamers, and no one thought you would get non gamers to get that system.

when non gamers wanted a wii, thats when shit hit the fan if nintendo failed to get them, the wii would barely have sold 5 million consoles total

more hardcore? define that to me. because i don't see hardcore as meaning anything, at first there were gamers and non gamers, than the wii made casual gamers now the games i originally likes are hardcore and crap no one should buy EVER are casual.

I DO NOT AND WILL NEVER CALL MARIO A HARDCORE GAME.

hard core to me is BALL BUSTING difficulty mixed with its fair.

    This is my gameplan:

Suck it up, and DO NOT buy a 3DS! Screw that. I'll wait until games like Inazuma Eleven and Ni no Kuni comes out on the DS. That'll tide me for YEARS.

Also, knowing Nintendo, they're going to drop at least $150 on the pricetag on that thing in a matter of years after release + they're going to fix whatever ergonomic and button-quality/screen-quality problems by then.

It got burned bigtime with the GBA (3 succeeding versions of GBAs I have), Nintendo DS (right now, on my 3rd version) and I keep wondering why I keep falling for Nintendo's tactics.

Wait a few years. THEN buy it and get a bunch of games on the cheap + get a superior 3DS.

Because as the past has proven, the UK gets shafted for prices while NA gets a normal price. I'm calling it as $200 USD just because if I remember right, for previous consoles and handhelds, they just kept the numbers and added pounds/euro/etc. So NA will be $200 USD, europe will be 200 pounds.
