tekken-movie-poster.jpg

Hollywood’s franchise raping antics continue with the revelation that even the producer of Tekken is willing to publicly trounce the recent $35 million Tekken movie, calling it “terrible” and entreating Tekken fans “don’t even ask me about that!”

Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada expressed his dissatisfaction in an English language Twitter exchange with fans:

“That Hollywood movie is terrible. We were not able to supervise that movie. (It was cruel contract.) I’m not interested in that [movie].”

“Please don’t ask me about that movie. We did not have the supervision right. I don’t want talk about that.”

Considering the atrocious results of practically every effort to adapt a fighting game to the silver screen, just why they persist is something of a mystery.

The trailer:

The film was aired in Japan in March, with a number of other territories getting summer 2010 releases. The US release is due some time in 2011.

Anime movies based on games provide some exceptions to this, do they not? For example the recent Tales movie.

The first resident evil wasn't bad since it was a prequel to the games and didn't fuck with the canon storyline at all, the second was an abomination where the directors Mary Sue stomped in and took a dump on the entire RE storyline, the third was watchable if you did your best to pretend it wasn't supposed to be related to anything and was just a random post apocalyptic zombie movie.

Thats the Issue with alot of these movies on their own alot of them are decent standalone movies but as a game francise tie in there awful for anyone that has played the game which last I checked was the target audience.

..Except for Ewe Boll that man has never made a good movie and should be gassed by the German government for the good of mankind.

Because Mortal Kombat was successful, so they'll just keep trying and trying.

    **SPOILER ALERT**

    Several differences:

Ingame Dragunov: Death god that takes the form of a human.
Movie Dragunov: Gay that works in barber shop.

    Ingame Christie: Capoeira practitioner.
Movie Christie: Some kind of chinese martial art practitioner.

Ingame Anna and Nina: Sisters of never ending rivalry.
Movie Anna and Nina: A wannabe ninja that sent to kill Jin, and Kazuya;s bi**h.

Ingame Steve: Boxer practitioner, good juggle set.
Movie Steve: Fu**ed up douche bag that has no knowledge about boxing, but able to shoot and aim properly using P90.

    Ingame Heihachi: Bad-a** Old man.
Movie Heihachi: LMAO face. Does very little fighting and died at close range by some clone soldier that betrayed him and works under Kazuya. iomtukkun.

Ingame Kazuya: Someone with a concentrated essence of evil, very adapt in hand to hand combat.
    Movie Kazuya: AXE TIEM! LOLOLOLOLOLOL!

@Artefact this is absolutely true, I believe it's stated some where in your FAQ:

"Of particular note is the frequency of crossover between the media triad of anime, manga and games (as well as novels, eroge and the like), and the seamlessness with which these media would merge into one another with much finer gradients than the sharp delineations visible in American/European media (this is a movie, this is a novel, we make novels into movies but we never make games into novels, novels of movies are treated with derision, and we only make movies and games into one another with disastrous results; comics and animation are for children).

In contrast, the complex of Japanese media, unified by the visual style introduced by manga, exhibits constant (and successful) adaptations from one form into another, with each both taking into account the opportunities and limitations inherent in the media concerned, and being received without undue jaundice in each new incarnation."

And with this great principle in mind, you created Sankaku if I'm not mistaken.

Considering it only cost $35 million to make the movie, I'm sure they will make a profit on it regardless how bad the movie is or does.

And given to Hollywood and their own 'personal touch' it becomes a gigantic sh*t-storm of fail and westernized family sh*t...

I mean, look what they bloody did to Avatar: The Last Air Bender..! Not a single asian main character!!! Aang's a f*cking white kid, Kitara's a white chick...It...It is blasphemous whorage I tell you...No asian authenticity...

They bloody butchered it to appeal to western audiences and their love for white character leads and steroid/testosterone pumped BS adaptation...

Honestly, videogame movies should be made by the companies themselves and in 3D like Resident Evil: Degeneration...

Hollywood and their sh*t videogame/cartoon-to-movie adaptations are UTTER SH*T...

    MAIN POINT:

-Should be made by the companies themselves...

-In anime or 3D (like RE: Degeneration)...

-STICK TO THE F*CKING STORY AND DON'T ADD YOUR BLOODY HOLLYWOOD WESTERNIZATION FAMILY-FRIENDLY SH*T!!!

Every street fighter anime adaptations are mind numbingly awful -thou the tv show had the best story by far- and that FF- the spirits within along with the follow-up advent children where one: Not Fantasy and two: Horridly tedious.

Point? They're ALL made by JAPANESE PEOPLE<<<<<

Yeah, but the story was clearly based in an Asian world. The fact that the characters were casted as non-asians really threw alot of people off. As an Authentic Asian myself gotta say it would have been best animated, or done in cg, or with an actual ethnically correct cast. In that order. But hey, at least Uwe Boll isn't involved.

Avatar was doomed from the start.

Avatar was bound to run into cultural issues sooner or later given that it was a cartoon/anime hybrid that was sold to the audience as a show with strong "Asian" themes.

The choice to whitewash the main characters and fill in the background with minorities just worsens the entire situation. It would be akin to replacing the filling inside Californian Rolls (which many love) with a very American filling, such as say apple pie.

On the bright side at least it wasn't as bad as John Wayne playing Genghis Khan...

you gotta notice the tradition. american movies has either a white or black hero/protagonist. chinese movies have chinese, japanese have japanese, indian has indian. since the early history of movies, it has always been this way and i highly doubt thats ever going to change.

look at the last samurai for example.

i too was upset by the lack of Asians in the last airbender. i didnt complain though. just didnt watch it.
