Hollywood’s franchise raping antics continue with the revelation that even the producer of Tekken is willing to publicly trounce the recent $35 million Tekken movie, calling it “terrible” and entreating Tekken fans “don’t even ask me about that!”
Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada expressed his dissatisfaction in an English language Twitter exchange with fans:
“That Hollywood movie is terrible. We were not able to supervise that movie. (It was cruel contract.) I’m not interested in that [movie].”
“Please don’t ask me about that movie. We did not have the supervision right. I don’t want talk about that.”
Considering the atrocious results of practically every effort to adapt a fighting game to the silver screen, just why they persist is something of a mystery.
The trailer:
The film was aired in Japan in March, with a number of other territories getting summer 2010 releases. The US release is due some time in 2011.

movies based on videogames are always horrible
Anime movies based on games provide some exceptions to this, do they not? For example the recent Tales movie.
but that sort of movies are made by the same japanese and are canon to the series
i'm talking about movies BASED on videogames, the same goes for series wich i hope they dont fuck up the last airbender
how about mortal kombat? thats a fighting game
You hope they don't fuck up The Last Airbender? A little late to wish for that.
Yes. Mortal Kombat is a fighting game... with a terrible movie.
Mortal Kombat? those movies where shit too.
And the Mortal Kombat movies were shitty... what was your point again?
Another movie I know is total crap but I'll watch anyways cuz I'm a sucker for anything video game related...curse my blind love for games!!!
Hey The MK movies were Cult classics... Well the first one anyways. the second was just crap.
What about Dragonball? Oh wait... that was a manga with a good game... and a terrible movie.
Is Resident Evil any good for people's eyes?
I liked the first of the Resident Evil movies and how about the Tomb Raider movies - both were good also I think.
The first resident evil wasn't bad since it was a prequel to the games and didn't fuck with the canon storyline at all, the second was an abomination where the directors Mary Sue stomped in and took a dump on the entire RE storyline, the third was watchable if you did your best to pretend it wasn't supposed to be related to anything and was just a random post apocalyptic zombie movie.
Thats the Issue with alot of these movies on their own alot of them are decent standalone movies but as a game francise tie in there awful for anyone that has played the game which last I checked was the target audience.
..Except for Ewe Boll that man has never made a good movie and should be gassed by the German government for the good of mankind.
the first mk movie was awesome. it was accurate, the action was unique(at the time) and people new to the series enjoyed it. not to mention acting was better than these lame kung fu actors nowadays. and who can forget the #1 amv theme on youtube. "Test Your Might"
Considering the atrocious results of practically every effort to adapt a fighting game to the silver screen, just why they persist is something of a mystery.
Because Mortal Kombat was successful, so they'll just keep trying and trying.
10 years from now we'll be saying "Why do they keep trying to make comic book movies?" and the answer will be "Because of Spiderman"
aren't comic book movies doing really good? i think dark knight is going to be the huge inspiration here. plus i think the craze really started with superman. spiderman only started the computer generated marvel craze.
@Majineko He was saying "10 years from now" In case you missed it.
The old Tron movie was pretty cool
Double Dragon was a good movie. At least when I was 10.
Hey there was also Silent Hill. With MK the first one only are pretty good adaptations, not the best movies ever, but at least good adaptations...
Postal was a good movie :>
BY THE TRAILER THIS ONE SEEMS TO BE A DECENT MOVIE THO
Everybody's so immersed with talking about other films based on games I just thought I'd go ahead and point that out.
I've watched this movie...
**SPOILER ALERT**
Several differences:
Ingame Dragunov: Death god that takes the form of a human.
Movie Dragunov: Gay that works in barber shop.
Ingame Christie: Capoeira practitioner.
Movie Christie: Some kind of chinese martial art practitioner.
Ingame Anna and Nina: Sisters of never ending rivalry.
Movie Anna and Nina: A wannabe ninja that sent to kill Jin, and Kazuya;s bi**h.
Ingame Steve: Boxer practitioner, good juggle set.
Movie Steve: Fu**ed up douche bag that has no knowledge about boxing, but able to shoot and aim properly using P90.
Ingame Heihachi: Bad-a** Old man.
Movie Heihachi: LMAO face. Does very little fighting and died at close range by some clone soldier that betrayed him and works under Kazuya. iomtukkun.
Ingame Kazuya: Someone with a concentrated essence of evil, very adapt in hand to hand combat.
Movie Kazuya: AXE TIEM! LOLOLOLOLOLOL!
and many other differences... "Many"....
It seems that they are trying to make tekken into a mainstream movie... Btw, sorry for my bad english...
Please don't tell me that was Jin. Looks like a pussy compared to the REAL one.
Well, this movie looks like it could be good if it got it's own title, not stampled as "Tekken".
This movie looks fucking hilarious. That, is some of the fucking most SHITTY fighting scenes I have ever seen. It looks so godamn fake. My god.
The best part was when Jin's daddy raids a little shop and announces that he backtraced the hack. He dun goofed.
Oh U! :3
The Anime was release on DVD I guess if this movie does bad I guess it would be release on DVD.
They fucked up Tekken's anime adaption.
...
Also, this has twincest.
@Artefact this is absolutely true, I believe it's stated some where in your FAQ:
"Of particular note is the frequency of crossover between the media triad of anime, manga and games (as well as novels, eroge and the like), and the seamlessness with which these media would merge into one another with much finer gradients than the sharp delineations visible in American/European media (this is a movie, this is a novel, we make novels into movies but we never make games into novels, novels of movies are treated with derision, and we only make movies and games into one another with disastrous results; comics and animation are for children).
In contrast, the complex of Japanese media, unified by the visual style introduced by manga, exhibits constant (and successful) adaptations from one form into another, with each both taking into account the opportunities and limitations inherent in the media concerned, and being received without undue jaundice in each new incarnation."
And with this great principle in mind, you created Sankaku if I'm not mistaken.
Hollywood movies based on japanese games / anime / manga are usually horrible.
*fixed*
"Hollywood movies based on japanese games / anime / manga are usually horrible."
Rephrase that:
"Hollywood movies based on japanese games / anime / manga are "always" horrible."
*fixed*
P.S. Hates Americunt turning games / manga / anime into crappy movies (example: Dead or Alive, Resident Evil, Max Payne, Dragonshit/ Dragonball and etc)
I saw that movie last week, it was good, not the bad at all, the only thing that bothered me is the main actor, he simply doesn't look like "jin kazama" the game character
Also the fight scenes were too few and too short, they also didn't integrate all the famous character of the game, but only few of them
The hero gotta be a white teen who can fight/kung-fu/whatever, it's typical stereotype of these kind of movies now that are targeting a certain audience.
Considering it only cost $35 million to make the movie, I'm sure they will make a profit on it regardless how bad the movie is or does.
he's called jon foo, he's half chinese
He's close enough to pass as white.
does that mean I'm not good enough to be called asian then ?
wow and only yesterday everyone on here was saying the japanese were racist against foreigners,
or is this only half racism, cause I'm half cooked ?
Everyone is racist. Dur. Didn't you know that? So no worries, you're completely racist just like everyone else. Welcome to the world.
you're a halfbreed mutt. get used to it
wow, what a massive cunt, what so I'm racist because I'm in a smaller minority than other minorities, yeah that makes sense,
sorry if I don't go crying into my cheerios straight away sweet lips, I'm just too flabbergasted with your superior wit and intellect to muster a suitable emotional response,
I guess it must be those gook genes in me,
hmmm, think I'll just go have a cup a fucking tea and wallow in my own self pity, where's the razor blades ?
I'm not saying I'm being racist, more or less Hollywood is. Look at the last few fighting movies that come out; even when they have veteran actors like Jet Li or Jackie Chan (like in "The Forbidden Kingdom"), they put them on support role.
i ll give you razor blade if you want, what?
so just because your race got a little number of people, you dare to say you are minority??
haha, dont make me laugh then why dont you use your half breed penis and make more of your quarter breed people ,instead of whining here and became a fucking suicidal emo??
I was expecting to see Zac Efron make an appearance. We'll be seeing him for the Full-Metal Panic movie, so it all works out.
You had better be fucking lying about this. If they take FMP! and make a movie out of it, I will, without cessation, begin the genocide of Hollywood.
@13:51
Hollywood is so gonna be scared...
And given to Hollywood and their own 'personal touch' it becomes a gigantic sh*t-storm of fail and westernized family sh*t...
I mean, look what they bloody did to Avatar: The Last Air Bender..! Not a single asian main character!!! Aang's a f*cking white kid, Kitara's a white chick...It...It is blasphemous whorage I tell you...No asian authenticity...
They bloody butchered it to appeal to western audiences and their love for white character leads and steroid/testosterone pumped BS adaptation...
Honestly, videogame movies should be made by the companies themselves and in 3D like Resident Evil: Degeneration...
Hollywood and their sh*t videogame/cartoon-to-movie adaptations are UTTER SH*T...
MAIN POINT:
-Should be made by the companies themselves...
-In anime or 3D (like RE: Degeneration)...
-STICK TO THE F*CKING STORY AND DON'T ADD YOUR BLOODY HOLLYWOOD WESTERNIZATION FAMILY-FRIENDLY SH*T!!!
re:d was pretty to watch, but painfully annoying to hear and follow. Appleseed 2 was a flipping sad turn of events from the first one as was toshindan OVAs. Every street fighter anime adaptations are mind numbingly awful -thou the tv show had the best story by far- and that FF- the spirits within along with the follow-up advent children where one: Not Fantasy and two: Horridly tedious.
Point? They're ALL made by JAPANESE PEOPLE<<<<<
For myself; Mortal Kombat was a fun treat. Great eye candy and a somewhat sorta story that was dragged out of it.
True...Then we should find a great director that understands the story and sticks to it without adding unnecessary sh*t...
P.S.
I personally liked the Reptile fight in MK...But Scorpion's death by Johnny Cage was dishonorably gaaayyyyyyy...
I'm glad he died at part 2 for what he did to Scorpion...
The Street Fighter anime movie made by Renegade was actually good...
Did this kid just say Advent Children is bad? I can agree how you'd say Spirits Within isn't Final Fantasy, but Advent Children? Also how the hell is Advent Children tedious, it's easy as fuck to follow.
FYI: Avatar was a western cartoon not Asian.
Yeah, but the story was clearly based in an Asian world. The fact that the characters were casted as non-asians really threw alot of people off. As an Authentic Asian myself gotta say it would have been best animated, or done in cg, or with an actual ethnically correct cast. In that order. But hey, at least Uwe Boll isn't involved.
Avatar was doomed from the start.
Avatar was bound to run into cultural issues sooner or later given that it was a cartoon/anime hybrid that was sold to the audience as a show with strong "Asian" themes.
The choice to whitewash the main characters and fill in the background with minorities just worsens the entire situation. It would be akin to replacing the filling inside Californian Rolls (which many love) with a very American filling, such as say apple pie.
On the bright side at least it wasn't as bad as John Wayne playing Genghis Khan...
you gotta notice the tradition. american movies has either a white or black hero/protagonist. chinese movies have chinese, japanese have japanese, indian has indian. since the early history of movies, it has always been this way and i highly doubt thats ever going to change.
look at the last samurai for example.
i too was upset by the lack of Asians in the last airbender. i didnt complain though. just didnt watch it.
"american movies has either a white or black hero/protagonist. chinese movies have chinese, japanese have japanese, indian has indian."
Not really, that doesn't really apply to Thailand movies. Som Tum has Nathan Jones as the main character and that one martial art movie (which title i csn't remember) has a group of white guys as the protagonists.
i know. like all things, there are exceptions. like jackie chan being the hero, but im stating wats most common and expected.
I don't even want to see The Last Airbender movie. I knew it was going to be shit ever since I found out that Shyamalan was directing it. I fucking love Avatar (I own all 3 seasons on DVD). I don't want to see something I love so dearly be raped like a jailhouse bitch.
I'm no sure how Avatar: The Last Air Bender fits into it. It is an american cartoon after all and while you can guess at the race of characters in it, they really can be whatever you want. When you can use what is basically magic, why bother with worrying about other aspects of reality? The only thing that bugged me was the firebending change.
The bloody race of the characters was the least of the problems with Avatar.
TBH, I'd prefer white main characters because the Asians all look a like.
What did you expect? Mighty Whitey's gotta rule the world...
Germany should breed with Japan to create the new master race. ^_^
germany women should breed with japan men to create whatever abomination comes out, leaving japanese women at the mercy of ronery, horny otakus and weaboos like us.
(fixed)
When Germans breed with Japanese, we get tsundere overachieving redheads with parental abandonment issues...
that.. might be an interesting date, to say the least..
i dont know this one looks fucking cool
Omg...so...cheesy....reminds me of that mortal combat live action movie back in the 90's -_-.
more like the lol D.O.A
The only decent game to movie crossover I've seen is Silent Hill.
And vice versa with Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay
Postal was good ^^
Even if its only sarcasm.(I really hope it is)
This is not funny.
The street fighter leagacy is the only exception to this rule
http://www.youtube.com/user/StreetfighterLegacy#p/a
but they should really do what capcom did with the resident evil degeneration movie.
Street fighter legacy is NOT made by hollywood... I think it was made by fans... and THEY know what it is that should be done to make it great. I say give the people behind it a job at hollywood to replace the retards in there.
this was all started by street fighter!! and van damme!
Street fighter with Van damme was kind of fun.
.. Not all, really.. Tomb Raider was good. Silent Hill was exceptional. Resident Evil was cool. Directors and producers who make movies without prior research or knowledge about those games tend to destroy the games' image.
It's quite sad to see great games go to rubbish because of such atrocities. ~_~
My friend gave me a download of the movie. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet but my little brother supposedly watched 10 minutes and cut it off.
Dragon Ball movie, The Last Air Bender, Street Fighter And Tekken.
Those all are same SHIT different asshole.
What's next? Death Note American version?
Wait for it.....
Zack efron or justin bieber will be Light Yagami and one of the jonas brothers or jaden smith will be L....who will be Misa?Hanna Montana....HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
