Eyebrows have been raised at the rather shameless filching of the dimensional portal gameplay Valve’s Portal is known for by a Korean multiplayer FPS, with the equally original title “GATE.”
The game, by JC Entertainment, is currently in closed beta testing in Korea. Whether there are any plans for an international release is not clear.
It seems also to bear more than a passing resemblance to TF2…
Portal gameplay for those unfamiliar with it:
Whilst someone stealing the portal gameplay was perhaps inevitably going to happen, duplicating the exact same portal effect and gameplay dynamic seems to be taking things a little too far.
That’s the first time I’ve seen something like in the demo video, I thought the platforming aspects looked incredible!
It is a portal but doesn’t appear to function the same way. Rather than setting town 2 portals connected to each other it lets you pass threw any object.
I’m ok with Portal being ripped off because I think its hard to copyright the idea of using 4th dimensions into a game.
I’ve long had the “portal” like gameplay/concept in my head as an idea long before the time of Playstation 2’s and Xbox’s.
And I’m not the only person I believe to imagine/ try to comprehend it.
The only thing portal did as a game I couldn’t/didn’t think about was making the portal thing into a gun, giving it a storyline, and the idea of cake at the end.
Infact, I might even say that the Portal Gun is an evolved rippoff of the Translocator in Unreal Tournament 2004.
True. I’d also have to say that this ‘Portal’ concept is something that you should not have been able to patent. The design of the Portal Gun itself maybe… not the concept of using portals to move around a room!
and so korea decided they wanted in on the simmonsing
please dont use simmonsing since simmons nick don’t start that but slam dunk mangaka is the first plagiarist mangaka. just told you.
yea it’s ripping of but adding the portal gun to TF@ is just WIN on so many levels
you can fap on gmod to has that fantasy.
