Evangelion Fans vs Gundam Fans

A comparison of Evangelion fans to Gundam fans made by Fuji TV at the recent openings of the two giant robot statues (Gundam and the Eva unit) has upset many, although whether its truthiness is actually in doubt is hard to say.

i didn't find eva physiologically disturbing at all. the only anime that mind rapped me was serial experiment lain. i don't know what in eva was supposed to rape my mind. i thought eva was awesome and cool but it wasn't nearly the mind rape everyone told me it would be

To understand the mindrape that is Evangelion you'd have to understand alot of Christian mysticism and Jewish Kabbalism. That's where it really gets into a mindjob. Lain was just an acid trip.

Who said anything about "disturbing"? The whole idea of the show was that everyone had their own psychological problems and somehow needed to connect with one another.

^ Read the bible, then go listen to some classical music like Bach. Then take a few years of psychology classes and watch it again. You should be able to understand it then.

As much as Evangelion has been impacted by other works like Devilman,[57] the series itself has become a staple in Japanese fiction. The nature of the show made it a landmark work in the more psychological and sophisticated vein of anime that would be picked up by later works such as Revolutionary Girl Utena (1997) that, like Evangelion, center on an ambiguous world-changing event to come. Serial Experiments Lain is a later anime which dealt with many of the same themes as Evangelion,[89] and so is often thought to be influenced by Neon Genesis Evangelion, although the writer did not see any of Evangelion until he had finished the fourth episode of Lain

I like evangelion but the thing is some parts of the show was never expanded. like for instance the e2 engine that eva unit 01 absorbed.

Also both endings the actual and end of evangelion was abrupt.

Freak they should have given it more time. It was so good up until ep 23 was it?

Evangelion movies were great. I like the changes they made to the story. hope it turns out well. =3

It's funny how you think Serial Experiments Lain is a acid trip when all it was was a guide to internet security. All it dealt with was the difference between real life and internet life, which it made incredibly clear. It wasn't deep shizzle at all, it was just a way of telling you what you need to know about the internet through a story where everything is different yet similar. Exaggeration in other words, instead of showing you a chat they showed you them in a virtual world where they could talk to eachother.

NGE is basically (and repeats it a bazillion times) a show about how you need love, and how people love you no matter what you think and how you shouldn't just give up. All you need is love basically.
Then to sound deep (as the maker himself said) he made lots of obscure references to religion and shit and chose religious names just to make it sound deep without any deeper intention than that.

Basically NGE doesn't make sense because it doesn't have sense incorporated to it in the first place, it just tries to tell you about the importance of love.

Lots of people don't notice that anime is just an educational tool for children and teenagers (as well as soft soft core pornography) teaching them morales in life and give them lots of tips in how you should try to act in the real life, not just bind yourself to the rules.

The only reason Eva is "Deep" is because the creator, Hideaki Anno, went through a nervous breakdown during the production, which is why the final episodes are so fucked up.

Oh, and the "Angels" are just Aliens, that's it. All the Kabbalah and Christian mysticism references are just there to throw you off. The Japanese treat Judeo-Christian dogma the same way the West treats Eastern religions or Greco/Roman mythology. They think it's interesting, even fascinating but they don't take it seriously at all.

Not that it was a bad show. But if anyone tells you it was the best, deepest show of all time they're full of shit.

    18:12 Anon:

The Gundam series is generally pretty damn good for what it is. Cowboy Bebop is considered by most people I've talked to a modern classic, Martian Successor Nadesico had a good message, Ghost in the Shell deals with the technological Singularity and even the nature of sentience itself, FLCL is a classic story of adolescence wrapped up in a shell of crazy, Princess Mononoke is just plain beautiful, and has a great story, I could go on but then this post would start getting obnoxiously long. Eva isn't a bad show. The fantards tend to be really pretentious about it though.

    tl;dr
Pretty much anything by Hayao Miyazaki or Makoto Shinkai beats out Eva.

    Princess Mononoke.
    Good story.

    Lol.

It's just a classical childrens movie story. It's a good film, but far from original or stunning. It's nothing more than yet another childrens movie by Disney / Studio Ghibli.

And no, it's not automatically mature because it contains some blood.

The only thing Miyazaki really should have creds for is his creature designs. Oh how wonderful it would be if he made a more teenager or adult oriented movie where he really takes those skills to use.

Gundam was an update to mecha anime back in the late 70's. Eva was an update in the early 90's. I dunno why they should be competing. They are part of anime history and to some of us, even our history.

There's enough of each one of us for mecha anime. I'd say we should enjoy it as much as possible.

All this religious angle is the reason why I avoid Evangelion fans like plague. Make no mistake, I love Evangelion too.

But Gundam is straightforward, good oldschool military-robot fantasy. It's a lot easier to talk about Gundam with fans.
