Lolicon Hacks 150 Schoolgirl Webcams

Police are hunting a hacker who hacked 150 schoolgirl webcams using a trojan.
An electrical engineer, working with a group which holds lectures in German schools about the privacy dangers of the Internet, was approached by girls with a curious problem with their webcams – “Two girls told me that the indicator light on their webcams were always on.”
Investigating the suspect computers, he soon discovered them to be infected with a trojan capable of controlling the computer’s webcam, apparently spread through using popular messaging software ICQ. The hacker was apparently able to email images back to himself at will.
The attacks appeared to originate from the German town of Aachen.
Police are currently investigating the case, saying that at least 150 girls were affected.

Hacking Web cams has been around for years,not to mention theres hackers they have never been caught.
I admit hes a hero for getting up to 150 but unable to get naked shoots and ontop of that not using the LED shut down code and even getting caught made him look weaker then superman =\

im a german and i know its common in germany to use icq. I use it too but i dont get any trojaner with it^^. Well im 19 and i know how simple the girls here in germany are when it comes to pcs. The only things they usualy know is how to turn it on or off and to chat and browse.
They dont know anything about security or anything else and yeah i bet its easy to hack them. YOu just need set up a trojaner at asite then go to schüler.vz(another plague here in germany) and post it in the comments. I can garantue you that many of them will click on it.

And this is why on my Macbook I have a piece of thick construction paper taped over the webcam ALWAYS, unless I actually want to use it. Whether or not it's turned on, the camera can't see through the paper.

Okay, tell me I'm not the only person who was afraid of the proliferation of computer-based cameras and microphones with internet capabilities.
I was only afraid of Big Brother watching me, but it seems that deplorable perverts are way ahead of them/him.
Ya, I used to have a cam and a mic hooked up on my PC till I realized that they were always on even if I wasn't actively using them. I started to wonder who might be watching/listening to me do the various things one does with a computer. So needless to say I unhooked those things and never put them back.
Also if you know what to search for you can use google to find any open cams and watch them for a while. Most are just security cams and stuff but some are kinda interesting. You can even control some of them and pan/zoom to look at different stuff.
No big brother was already well ahead of them as always:

I got one of those little shutter webcams. It's always shut when i'm not using it.
I could have told that kind of things were happening. Didn't witness it, didn't hear about it, just, reasoned it.
With current state of security, if you would really mind some anon to watch your webcam at any time, you need to physically make your webcam be incapable to communicate with the computer, or the computer be physically incapable to communicate with Internet.
For now, it's easy to do: never have your cam plugged to the computer unless you want to use it, and then unplug it again.
Otherwise, the computer just simply has to be shut down when not in use. If it is a laptop, even that won't work, and of course the cam is integrated. Close the laptop lid instead.
When Bluetooth cams with integrated loads of functionality will become commonplace, just turn them to wall. Actually no, they'll have some cool 'can turn around without touching it' functionality. Drop opaque clothes onto it.
Webcams just simply have the functionality to permit anons to watch you. Nothing out there is meant to restrict it.
Or just learn a thing or two about computer security. Seriously, it's not so hard to avoid opening files you were sent over IMs, run a proper AV and not installing every single thing your porn sites "need to work".
Or just give up Windows and run a a more secure OS.

And finally, there are other ways out there to corrupt a Windows system. If you don't devote an all-time attention to not being pirated then every time you don't was an opening the size of which you don't know. There is just *no*thing meant to prevent cam hijacking.

Where were you in the past decade? Webcams are everywhere now, you barely even notice there's one with the computer you just got.
My online classes require me to have a webcam... the same program also offers courses to underage students...

- Why do you care? I know privacy is important to anyone, but is there anything private your cam can catch?
- Close the laptop lid when you aren't using the laptop. Expect the cam to be recording when you are using the laptop.
