I seriously dont get the bashing this website brings. I mean what university was it exactly and this one is probably in the low end. (I mean why would you apply for this university if there are better ones?)

Well I sure as hell couldn't live like that. I let stuff go for a little while but then it starts to annoy me and I have to clean.

But I got a buddy who basically lived in a garbage dump during highschool. I didn't go in his room for over a year before he moved, I'd just come pick him up and we'd leave.

But when I helped him move outa his old place I was amazed by what I saw. His entire room was filled with trash and random stuff, it smelled like rotten garbage and he just had a small path from his door to the chair in front of his computer that he slept in. I asked him how he could live like that and he basically said that he really didn't think about it, so it didn't really bother him.

Psychologically, people are more likely to do something "bad" when others are doing it as well. Chances are, only a small group of students were slobs in the beginning. But when more people felt like they had an excuse to litter ("Classes are too tough! I don't have time to clean" or "Everybody else is doing it!") and when faculty simply do not do anything to control the littering, the shit hits the fan.

However, I bet you anyone, when given these circumstances, would do the same thing. It's not simply because they're Chinese.

TBH my room was that messy back in my university days.

I hated having girls over since that required few hours of cleaning beforehand. But I eventually came to my senses and realized that I don't have to work so hard to impress my imaginary girlfriends.

Not "letting their hair down" exactly. Chinese education system don't leave much time for students who have been studying under high pressure to do something they want; most of the students have live this way for nearly 20 years, and they can finally change their lifestyle when graduate, how can they stay cool? It feels like a prisoner who has just been set free.

Being exposed to such conditions at birth and years later would contribute to numbing one's mind to such states, making it the norms in their lives.

To us, its disgusting to live in our own filth, but to them, its just another room. (Probably)

I heard that China has been investing heavily in education that nurtures creativity though, the opposite of education systems like that of the US which is continually becoming more and more - shitty.

The reason why that is so significant is that, there is 3 times as much correlation between success and creativity, then success and IQ.

Nevertheless if Chinese universities are as shitty as these who knows, although a man such as myself would not be that bothered studying in such an environment. As long as I had information available to me that is.

p.s. creativity does not equal arts and etc, its much deeper, more akin to idea generation - look into the work of Ellis Paul Torrance for more info.

Hasn't anyone noticed that most good Chinese Uni students go overseas?

High quality education - i.e. education that nurtures creativity - in the US is still currently superior to the education received by most native Chinese students, but high quality education is usually only provided to gifted students or those in private education. From what I know this is the case in other countries like the UK. Undeniably Chinese students will have more opportunities if they were to go overseas, but there really is a great deal of investment in education in China, especially in science and maths.

In fact my initial point was actually meant to be the fact that the quality of education in China is and has been getting better however QOE in numerous advanced economies are only getting worse - terrible in fact. Looking at drop-out rates and etc makes me worried, and drop-outs and etc aren't really at fault as well, they are just educated 'wrong'.

Soup, doesn't that kinda strike you as odd when the 'government' controls those arts + the fact they're one of the most artistically repressive major nations in the world?

I would not trust what the Chinese government says in face value.. More artistic and creative freedom than the US? Are you out of your mind?

this is why I included the p.s.

your mistake is that you assume that creativity is only found in the art and etc.

mathematics for example is no different from art really; what mathematicians essentially do is use a symbolic language to describe an idea of something; it is no different from describing it in words, painting a picture or whatever.

Nevertheless creativity is more along the lines of generating ideas, which is required in all walks of life to solve the many problems we encounter.

cant be bothered to explain better, gota catch up on my manga.

All the other exchange students who have to room with the Chinese students complain. They will do shit like eat from a package and then just toss uneaten portion and the wrapper on the ground. Their dorm rooms are always infested with bugs and shit.
