though man behind Astro Boy wanted to be a gynecologist?
did not see that coming.
a man behind Astro Boy?! saw that coming...
Tezuka still makes me chuckle with the gynecologist thing because by far, he makes some of the most contemplative, straight-edge and downrightly morally correct anime like Black Jack where a rogue unlicensed doctor is actually an icon of human morality. Really weird..
I guess you can still see some of that weird Tezuka perversion in his stuff though. Lots of 'sexy robot' types of characters, loli-sidekicks and even the Sharaku character who is basically a small bald alien psychic who basically has a female-toy with Watto Chiyoko (Sherlock Holmes + Watson).
But damn is he a powerful anime/manga figure to get away with that first pic. lol
but wanting to be a ginecologist can't be labelled imoral...sure is fun, but not imoral...XD
Perhaps not immoral.... but gynecology is a VERY specific field of medicine. lol. Just saying... even good old Tezuka isn't exactly immune to some levels of perverseness.
umm where's the woman who created ranma? forgot her name but didnt she become super rich because her works introduced manga to the western audience or something? seems pretty history changing to me
She's nowhere because she fucking sucks? Sparing Ranma?
And how about a gay priest sleeping together with an insane man, sleeping with whoever (including dogs, crippled women and military officers)!? (From MW)
Rumiko Takahashi, the creator of ranma could be rich and that, but her work didn't change the history of manga inside japan. She is popular of course, but her word isn´t a milestone.
Also, Ranma ins´t the only which introduced manga/anime to western audiences. Robotech/Macross and Akira, bubblegum crisis, project A-ko, etc, there is a lot of names coming to my head.
I think Masamune Shirow deserves to be on that list.
What astonishing level of ignorance in Shippoyashas` post and specially in some following comments! Tezuka wasn`t, and never played some fucking holy pope! You bigot moralists, haven`t you learned anything of real life yet?
And of Takahashi Rumiko... it is impossible to say something more ignorant things. Haven`t heard of Inu Yasha? Rinne? What about Urusei Yatsura? Maison Ikkoku...
Go get a life for at least 30 years, then come back to read manga and watch anime. THEN maybe you begin to understand it a little.
I don`t have very high hopes of some ppl, though. They are here only to troll.
Schrobby: well said.
Seems weird that he Tezuka wanted to be a Gynecologist. From what I know, if the world of manga, and then anime, hadn't moved him to do what he's known for, Osamu Tezuka would've been a surgeon (fact: he had a Doctorate in medicine).
Quite the list there.
A man, behind Astro Boy, coming...?
I see what you did thar.
Behind... Astro Boy...
Astro Boy got it from behind.
Astro boy coming when he got it from behind..
I'm happy for Mr. Tezuka...One day, I hope he realizes his dream...
Except that he's dead. Died a while ago.
like, some 20 years ago
What happened to Shotaro Ishinomori (石ノ森 章太郎) and Go Nagai (永井 豪)!!??
This Orion Survey is rigged!!
Tezuka and Miyazaki (despite his hate of all things moe) will always have a special spot with me when it comes to manga.
Since when is Hayao Miyazaki considered a Mangaka?
Though better known as an animator but he is a mangaka too... Just means you have no idea what you are talking about...
As so very many ppl writing to Sankaku. Can`t those idiots be moderated away completely. They aren`t even fun to mock about.
Most of them are shit-tier anyway.
Buzz Killington is that you?
Obviously just a moe fag. Read some Urasawa Naoki before someone bashes your face in when you can only quote ecchi lolicon manga.
U mad?
You're lower than shit-tier.
Well, a guy that names himself after some lolicon feature can't be very intelligent or deep. If the manga has no naked children or has any semblance to a plot, he ain't interested.
What? Shit-tier? Really? Ask a million manga readers if they think those manga are shit, ok?
when in acutality said manga is dam good.
BAHHHH!, I don't read any of these! Never read one of them. (then again I don't read Japanese)
i'm sorry to hear that you're missing out on life
never read any of these ? why bother posting then....
i looked up sazae-san... it ended in the 70's
now thats some strong changes it made
if his/her work still gets 8th 30 yrs later
=_=
Sazae-san is still being animated. Think of it as the Simpsons of Japan. Episode count is in the thousands.
That still blows my mind when I used to buy Newtype and saw the count of that show~
Would like to watch it.
Simpsons? More like Santa Barbara
You mean Hanna-Barbera! Except they stopped most of their stuff.
kill me, at first i thought it's Jamie from Mythbusters
Me too... glad I wasn't alone in this horrible mistake.
CANNOT UNSEE
no, kill ME. I thought it was a live-action poster, and that the person he was touching was Astroboy. D:
Where the hell is Kubo Tite ???!!?
:p
tell him to write a proper story first
And Asto Boy has a great story right ?!?!
actually it had, for that time. Also, he created some concepts used until today.
Its like kimba, the white lion, which was so fucking famous that Walt Disney copy paste every detail and it became the lion king...
The guy is a genius
I never thought Astroboy had a significantly worse story than, say, Superman.
And we know how THAT one worked out...
Genius is underrated for him
Say, you think you know the stories written by Tezuka Osamu, but have you actually read any of them? Actually read some before you come here and argue your case.
and Black Jack is still my one and only hero.
Srsly, as vocaloidfan stated, Genius is underrated for him.
He is more like, epic win over 9000 personified.
@Tex_arcana, unlike superman though astro had to deal with a racism towards robots and about life, while superman was just a man in tights who had powers and saved the world, with one weakness, green glowing rocks from his homeworld?!
hell yeah I read most of them (earlier series I cannot obtain for obvious reason) but I read BJ, Atomboy, Jungle Taitei, buddha, Metropolis, Apollo's Song, Lion books and some other tittles that washed away by the flood 7 years ago
the one that still preserved to this day is AtomBoy series, some of BJ and Buddha.
@Vocaloidfan
I suggest you reading some Hino Tori as well.
Quite philosophical and good, if that's your cup of tea.
Since when does Dragon Ball Z have the second best manga stories in the world?
Did you live in a cave or what.
Plus is not a matter of storie in manga but the history of the manga "industry".
Learn to read Boyaaa~~~~~
uhh cue in the almost first use of 'power levels' and the scouter...
The man has done more than just Dragon Ball. Akira Toriyama has been in the industry for about 40 years. He not only influences the manga industry, but also the gaming industry.
He's also part of the reason that Oda is on that list since Oda to this day still admires and was inspired by him as a mangaka.
When they make the same ranking after 10 he'll be first ............or maybe not
