Microsoft’s upcoming motion controller Kinect has become the subject of ridicule for its inability to track the legs of people wearing skirts.
Those playing pre-release versions report beskirted women were unable to have their legs recognised.
Similar warnings about baggy clothing have also been circulating – it appears certain fashions simply have no place in the future of gaming.
Kinect has been confirmed by players as requiring wide open spaces of the sort only guaranteed in cavernous American homes, as being dependent on players remaining standing up for many games, and as being only able to actively track a few players at a time – although spectacular when working properly, just how much it can be relied upon to do this is a matter of some concern.

kinect should be able to see the feet and take an educated guess. i mean i never saw a skirt longer then the knees in real life. is it that hard for it to figure out thet the human femur dose not bend anywhere but hip and knee? is 1 line that is easy to figure out that hard for it to?

i fucking wish they wore longer skirts. i had a 70year old female teacher, this is mid winter, and she was wearing knee high for school.
but even than, even with a long skirt, you should be able to see enough info to know or at least accurately guess where the leg is with 1 of the cores.
but now that i think of it, who the fuck would plat a moving game with a long skirt. they have to be talking about knee high ones, ones with a slit in them for better movement.
@Azure Xuchilbara Actually, it makes perfect sense, you'd need to know a bit about computer vision algorithms and detection techniques to know this though. I've worked with and researched facial recognition programs as well as limb tracking as part of my studies (current Computer Science undergrad) and to put it simply, facial detection and recognition works differently than limb tracking. In very basic terms, it's based off common patterns in human faces. Limbs are a totally different story.

Kinect has the potential to take the wii to the next step. If they wanted you to play a game with just your hands they will make it use the controller you morons. The point of motion controls is for MOTION. This is full body not wand crap.

I'd be more concerned if it *could* see your body through loose/baggy clothing. That would mean the camera was using soft x-rays to essentially see you naked, exactly the kind of thing that got people in a tizzy when the TSA wanted to do it.
