Disgaea 4 Announced

Nippon Ichi has announced that Disgaea 4 is due to be released for the PS3 within the year.
A detailed announcement is expected in September at the Tokyo Game Show.
The move is not likely to come as much of a surprise to followers of Nippon Ichi’s increasingly troubled fortunes – it previously outlined new Disgaea plans as part of its efforts to avoid bankruptcy.
It may be no exaggeration to say the company’s future prospects hinge on producing a quality iteration of its signature title – another embarrassingly pathetic exercise in cash cow milking like Disgaea 3 and its PS1 era graphics and gameplay seems unlikely to rescue the company’s fortunes.

Wonder if N1 decided to go with high-res sprites this time. Although after playing Infinity Universe there's a little bit of hope that it will have animated characters for the talking cut scenes.
Just downloaded the visual novel they made for psp (wich is opbscenely short btw!) and they did a impressive job with highquality sprites for the mood swaps to give the illusion of a full animation.
The disgaea games have in no way PS1 era game play btw, anyone who makes such a ridiculous game has not bothered playing a turn based strategy game past the original shining force!
Been waiting for this but considering their last few games I wouldn't be doubt it if its just Disgaea 3 with a new story.
How long have they been working on it too?
They will start heavily failing only around Disgaea XIII so there is still time.

They need to get some serious inovating ideas for the game..
I loved the first one and also liked the second and third. But it laked new ideas + the outdated graphics was awefull imo..
PS3 HD graphic + same humor + new plot plix! = awesome game!

How the hell do people continue to play this series? The first was all anyone needed for like 10 years then came the secnd, third & now fourth. I loved Disgaea, I wanted to love Disgaea 2 but couldn't, and the series was mostly dead to me by Disgaea 3. I'm tired of the grind (levels, and reincarnating, and skills). The formulas are broken. The strategy aspects of the game get slaughtered by the numbers, and the only strategy becomes raw numbers and destroying everything before the end of turn 1.
If this ends up being just another cash in remake with bad characters like Mao, Adell, and Almaz, I'm done.
Do not grind then.
More fanservice and we're buying it.
