An ranking of the 10 most sexy video game girls published by an American website is rather revealing in its implications.

This rather slatternly ranking seemingly confuses “breast size” with “sexiness,” a stereotype of American tastes almost as common amongst Japanese developers as the one involving angry muscle-bound heroes, and in fact Square Enix has gone so far as to buy the studio responsible for Lara Croft in the hopes it will give an edge amongst western adolescents.
However, it appears the stereotype itself may not be far from the truth?

Bad hypothesis Arty, there is a selection of breast sizes here and while none of them are below average, Tifa and Bayonetta (arguably the bustiest of these women) are nearer the bottom than the top. Ada Wong, Nariko, Sheva Alomar - all average sized busts.

Really good list. Though I prefer Elena over Chloe. Chloe just has a great ass.
Some of my personal favorites are Morrigan from Dragon Age, Heather from Sient Hill 3, and a lot of the female fighters from Tekken 6 including Asuka Kazama.

I don't see how these people think the manly Chung Li is more attractive than Juri.
Heck, what is Laura Croft even doing there? People feel the need to add her to every top # involving women for some reason. No, adding her on your list doesn't make you look like a 'cool retro' gamer, it makes you look like you have a horrible taste in women.
I see a lot of people here trashing the list then saying tifa was the only attractive one on the list. Wrong, she's from a crappy JRPG and she has an ugly design. This is obviously simple weeaboo thinking.
There are plenty of women from JRPGs that are much, much more attractive than Tifa and only else on that list. The only women on the list which has a beautiful design without looking like a huge boobed slut is Nariko.
Bayonetta may have been a fantastic game with a complex yet simple and stylish combat system, but Bayonetta herself isn't that attractive at all in my opinion.
And of course, in America women with smaller chests can't be attractive/sexy. There can't be enough facepalms.jpgs to express my feelings about the typical American way of thinking.
It's due to product knowledge. More people know about Chun Li since she's been around longer. Really, it just burns down to product knowledge. Quite likely, the people interviewed were casual gamers, possibly only with a fleeting knowledge.
And even in japan, aside from loli games the "sexy" character is typically type-cast with large chests. Look at Mai vs Athena.

No. Different people find different things 'cute' and/or 'sexy'.
No. Different people find things "attractive"... some find sexy attractive and some prefer cute. What people find attractive is completely subjective, but things like sexiness and cuteness have instinctual responses which can be measured and quantified. Even beauty has such measures... facial symmetry has been shown to correlate with it.
Sexiness comes from possessing secondary sexual characteristics in the balance that nature has evolved things in order to produce strong mating couples. But that ideal is not something that all members of a species will search out... especially a sentient one. But that doesn't really change what sexy is... in human women, that means child bearing hips and ample breasts are key. Which is fine if you're a T&A man, but leg men certainly exist and don't really care much for that at all. Which is just fine... you don't have to like sexy. I don't care for sexy... which is convenient, because when I see a list about "10 sexiest video game girls" I expect it to be filled with skank and characters I don't care much for, and am happy to see the list oblige because it means the word's meaning is in tact.
Now, cuteness is something naturally possessed by species that raise their young (ie most mammals and birds) that causes a different instinctual response... namely, that it will cause mothers of one species to raise a member of another species (and in some cases that species is actually a predator of the mother's). So it's an observable fact, and the factors that go into making that protective instinctual response occur can be measured just as much as you can measure the ideal hip to waist ratio for sexiness.
Now, there is absolutely no such accounting for attraction by definition. Some people are really attracted to people that are sexy, others find them rather skanky.
